Domain Registras

I've heard stories about Godaddy taking domains one to many times. I'm not a spammer, but its time to move.

Do all the domains registras take domain names like that? At this point I'm not really looking for names of domain registras as I am looking for registras to stay away from.

Suggestions anyone?

The other thing to watch out for is the blocking of domain unlocking. Their idea is to prevent a registrar transfer. Some registrars seem to put a 60 day transfer inhibit if you change the details ie. you move to a new host.

I learned that one the hard way also. Directnic did that to my last year.

I allways thought that was a great idea
If someone got into your directnic account and wanted to steal a domain name the first thing they would have to do is change the admin contacts email address

so they could approve the transfer
but then the domain is locked for 60 days

It is a good idea. I bought several domains from a guy that were at Directnic. I changed all the ownership details and tried to move them to a new registra to take advantage of pricing.

It wasnt a problem, but I would rather have done it all in one step instead of two. But the security of it is worth the trouble.

Definitely avoid Godaddy. Not only are there policies a bit troubling, but ever since their big advertising campaign debut, support has been slowly going down the drain.

Other registrars to avoid include NetSol, and of course, non-ICANN registered registrars.

I blame Godaddy and NetSol for the recent changes in the ICANN transfer policy. They were reputed to be refusing to unlock domains until they had been renewed with them.
