Looks like it could be pretty decent.

There is a long trailer on their website here (http://abc.go.com/primetime/defyinggravity/).
2-hour series premiere event Sunday August 2nd 9/8c
Sundays 10/9c starting August 9th

Four women and four men hurtle through space with nothing to do for six years and eight billion miles, except maybe solve a powerful and awesome mystery. Maybe, just maybe, some of them will even hook up. How cool is that?

Defying Gravity is a sexy, provocative thriller set in the very near future against the backdrop of our solar system, in which the eight astronauts from five countries undertake a mysterious six-year international space mission on the spaceship Antares.

They can't run from karma, however, as their past actions reveal intimate and interconnected relationships that have a strange effect on the present. As the astronauts travel towards Venus, we travel into their past with flashbacks to earlier years from the grueling selection and training process. What could have happened?

Maybe there is something to this fate thing after all.

I thought the sf show Virtuality was good - better than the braindead tv audience seemed to think.

Too bad the pilot didn't pull the numbers needed to get it made.

I hope syfy picks up the rights.

I'll be watching defying gravity.

I wasn't that excited with shows like Meteor and The Storm. Too suburbany.

I wanted to like Impact - such a cool idea, a fragment of neutronium hots the moon - but it was too much of a compromise, crammed with tons of stuff for the suburban housewife.

I'll for sure be putting that on the dvr list of things to record. Going to give it a decent shot at making the the show list.

So they will be hurtling through space for six years? Isn't it funny how in the future all missions last for 5 to 7 years, which is the optimum time for a series to run to make the most money via syndicated re-runs while expending the minimum amount of money actually making the show. Not that I am cynical or anything, but if they start the show with this attitude (do as little as necessary to make the money, and no more) then what sort of quality can we expect?

Personally I'm happier sticking to a sci-fi show that started 46 years ago and is still running, with no sign of stopping to profit from syndication.
