if you are not happy with your web hosts service, get off your ass and MOVE already!!!

most good web hosts (like chilihost) will help you move and re-setup your sites so that it is way less painful than you think, and for maybe 48 hours of work you will be on a brand new server and never have to deal with your old webhost again.

people, just do it!!!

cheers,
Luke

That's harsh Cleo! Chillhost posts here often without spamming (I think without checking) and that is good advice too imho.

Was back up for a few minutes now down again. My patience is about gone

Cleo 2005-03-17 05:13 PM

They came up and then went down again.

I saw a thread over on GFY where someone said that they talked to Corey and heard UPSs beeping.

May be time to move at least one of my servers. :(

Cleo 2005-03-17 05:30 PM

All three of my servers are up again.

Now the question is what happened and what is being done so that this never happens again.

Boogie 2005-03-17 06:35 PM

I went with m3server.com because of recommendations from this board (and the presence of dantheman).

Now when he doesnt even bother to post when my server goes down for long periods of time, and everyone else is upset, it does not bode well.

chilihost 2005-03-18 12:16 AM

Cleo, I will forgive your harsh remark as I know that having servers offline is a very stressful experience.

But my advice still stands, move your hosting already! Go find someone you are comfortable with and ask them to help you with your move.

cheers,
Luke

Since it was asked a few times, and no one has posted a response, yesterday's outage at M3server was caused by a power outage. With a few exceptions, our servers remained up and running for 45 minutes to 1 hour. We are looking into our options for longer power backup, as it seems the old plan for 1 hour is no longer sufficient.

Finally an official response. Corey posted that this morning on another board.

Chilihost
Yes I know to move if a host is looking troubled, been doing this for many years now, but if I moved every time a host had problems I would be forever moving. If I do decide to move I'll start a thread asking about hosting. Posting about your hosting in this thread feels like being kicked while down.

Moving my LL server would be a nightmare. I have tons of custom scripts on it and lots of server dependencies for these scripts.

I did go in after I was back up and did MySQL dumps and then tared up everything for all of my domains and downloaded everything to my local drives. FA's domain which is too many gigs to do this we keep a mirror of her domain locally on a FireWire drive.

I saw this posted on another board by M3 Server this morning.

M3 Server has been very good to me over the years and with the exception of these recent problems have always been rock solid so hopefully they are taking measures to prevent problems in the future but if this happens again I will be moving at least some of my stuff.
