My brain must have been asleep last night when I read the link Jim posted. Anyone else notice this statement in defence of Red Bull :
Glucuronolactone is a naturally-occurring metabolite, a carbohydrate produced by the human metabolic system. It most certainly is not "an artificially manufactured stimulant"........ So if it is not an artificially manufactured stimulant, they are saying it is extracted from human bodies. Yuck. If it were not for the fact that I doubt if they have their facts correct, there is another damn good reason to avoid the stuff. |
Glucuronolactone is a carbohydrate, a kind of sugar. It is naturally occurring in our bodies where it is produced from glucose. It is also present in different foodstuffs, such as grain or red wine.
So you can throw the "extracted from human bodies" theory right out the window :D |

RE "So you can throw the "extracted from human bodies" theory right out the window" I never really believed it. I was pointing out that glucuronolactone is either artificially manufactured or extracted from human bodies. And if, as they claim, the glucuronolactone in Red Bull is not artificially manufactured then it must be extracted from human bodies. In other words, I was saying that the debunk page is as much |bullshit| as the article they were debunking.
(Before I posted that, I sent the site's WM a similar message. Their reply was that they knew that what they were saying was not true, but they did not seem to care.) |
Although does this mean I will have to stop eating Red Bull with some fava beans and a nice Chianti? :D

On a more serious note. Cleo you said you drink the stuff at the gym. Although the drinks manufacturer claims the drink is safe under normal circumstances, they also say you should never mix it with exercise. Apparently people have dropped dead from drinking it before doing something strenuous eg. 18 year old Limerick student who’d drunk three cans of Red Bull before a basketball tournament and died.
You are also not supposed to drink it if you are under 16 or mix it with alcohol, as it is more harmful in these two cases. |

I drink Gatorade at the gym but do either drink a Red Bull or an American size cup of espresso before the gym. I also take Excedrin each more since I need aspirin to thin my blood due to artificial vein grafts in my leg. Excedrin has a shit load of caffeine in it so I get a pretty big kick from that and the espresso each morning. Yeah I know this is probably not real heathy. |
Slurm - LOL - I forgot about that one :D

Sugarfree Redbull? I want some... I have odd sleeping patterns but when I wake up my blood pressure is very low so I have coffee, a green and black tea mix and all that jazz.
