DEAR CHOP SMITH:

Obviously, is most easy to read Hemingway in english that read this board. The worst is that I can not to understand what is a help a what is an attack because the coloquial language is not in the scope of my poor english. It is a big pity. I thinked that here I will learn a little bit of english.

I am very tired of this. Today I had not maked a free site for to pay attention to this board.

If you tried to help me I thanked it to you.

THE END - FIN - HASTA LA VISTA BABY
(But I come back! Yo volvere!)

Who is Hemingway? |badafro|

Greenguy 2005-12-13 09:18 PM

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your grasp of the English language is not that good. We suggest the you take a class at your local university so that you can learn how to speak proper English. Once this is accomplished, please feel free to return to the board & we will be more than willing to help you.

Sincerely,
Greenguy & Jim

I am not sure if some people think Tallywhacker is Russian but his whois says Buenos Aires. That may be why his name isn't on that 'other' board.

Yep, I noticed that too.

Just a gut instinct...he almost seems too perfectly off the mark to be real. But, then again...things have been a bit surreal around here lately...perhaps my bullshit radar is outta whack...lol.

Oh, btw Nat...love the Tallywhacker nom de plume :D

natalie 2005-12-13 11:08 PM

lol thanks MrYum, I think it fits. Unfortunately I also think he is for real.

I think some people don't get that its not a racist thing, its not because someone wasn't born in the US, its not totally about bad English either.
I remember what Stu wrote like a couple of years ago, I could understand half of it lol. (love ya Stu) The point is though that she was happy to learn, she didnt take advice as offensive and her free site text was fine.
The problem with these new 'webmasters' is they ask advice or a question and then argue every point. We can't list sites that have text that makes absolutely no sense! And if we are being nasty about it its because we are sick of helping people who do not want to be helped. I think Tallywhacker would have got a better reception if Yafool hadn't start causing problems just before he joined.

Very good summary of the situation, Natalie. |thumb

I am so afraid that invasions of these new 'webmasters' will hurt the quality of this community. I would hate to see an entire group of IP's blocked but perhaps Greenguy and Jim might reconsider their ban policy.

If Tallywhacker is not for real, someone has gone to lots of trouble to pull it off. I know of couple of board members that would do it. If it is a joke, I hope I get a chance to laugh with them because they have done a good job poking fun. :)

MrYum 2005-12-14 12:15 AM

Yep, a very good analysis Nat |thumb

We all love Stu! Her chinese dutch (as I think she calls it) is actually charming in her own cute way :)

You're absolutely right...this has zero to do with where people are from...or their native language. It has tons to do with coming to these forums and arguing every damn point when people do try to help. And yea, everyone is getting real tired of seeing free sites with language so bad, it makes no sense.

Agreed Chop...this definitely has the potential to negatively impact this community. And could easily have effects on the link list/free site customer base if these sites propagate too much. I don't think our surfing customers want to see these sites, with their horrible english and questionable paysites either |angry|

Hi Tallywhacker! Sooooo, are ya real? :D

Jel 2005-12-14 05:19 AM

As others here have said, it's very frustrating to see sites submitted with descriptions that make no sense. Those can be changed by the reviewer, but when the actual text on the sites is so hard to decipher, it's impossible to list them. We market to native English speakers, so accordingly the sites we list are for the most part those that are subbed by native English speakers. Of course, there are those who are not native English speakers, but have a good enough grasp that the sites are easily read by the surfers we are marketing to.

It has nothing to do with where a particular site builder is from, other than the text simply has to make sense to our surfers.

It sometimes is like trying to make sense of text that is here: http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2005/s1474686.htm (written by Ronnie Barker).

It's like us trying to make a site(s) aimed at e.g. Italians, when we have very little grasp of how to write in Italian, it just doesn't work. An idea would be to work on TGP with minimal text, until you brush up on your English language until such time that your text will make sense to the English speaking surfers who visit our sites.

Best of luck :)

I know that guy is an old comedy legend but reading that just reminds me of David Brent :D

Seriously, a good start for you is to not start every post with "Dear xxxx" and ending it with

"Best regards,

TALLEYRAND"

rscott 2005-12-14 09:31 AM

Still not convinced, the avitar the post in general if you look at the history of the "other" guy, I'm thinkng its a dup, I see enough of it on the travel boards i frequent

Talleyrand 2005-12-14 10:59 AM

Jim

Seriously: I do not understand why the people here is angry with me for to write: "Dear xxx" and " Best regards" (or Yours sincerely). I thinked that was good.
May be, someone will give an answer.

The reason is simple. You are not writting a letter or email to someone on the board. You are trying to talk to them.

Jim 2005-12-14 11:06 AM

When you talk to someone in person do you talk like that?

Talleyrand 2005-12-14 11:13 AM

HOLA!

Jim, must I try to write here like in a chat (not email)?

That looks/reads much better to me. :D

Yahook 2005-12-14 11:38 AM

I was always thinking that the main reason of language is to communicate with people. If people can even hardly understand what you want to say - it's already better than nothing. Kind people are always tolerant to foreigners, even if their language skills are not so good. Each language contains special phrases that you can't find in any dictionary or study at local university. The only way to study it - to communicate with people as more as possible.

Talleyrand 2005-12-14 11:43 AM

Hi, Surfn. Sometime few good words (like the little post of Jim) are better than a lot of bad words.
Bye,

Talleyrand

LMAO Um perhaps it's time to travel some and test out your theory. If you have never been an English speaking person in France trying to speak their language you don't know what rude is!
(no offense to French people, I don't wanna get the rep of playing the racist card and starting another war!)
