Calm down everyone, this has got way out of hand!

All i did was delete 2 sites (out of several hundred). These were from 4 years ago, and they were from fisting sponsors that i don't use anymore, (cos loads are paranoid about fisting), and a BBW sponsor who i don't use anymore but was using her content. The funny thing is that i had deleted these a year ago, or something, and never given it a thought.

I left the index pages there because they were in other directories. because of my page mirroring method. (aa,ab,ac,ad etc) All the indexes were in diff folders to the main site. It wasn't a requirement in those days.

I've been doing this several years and try to consistently submit sites to most of you, they tend to get listed and i have always been grateful to you all. But this is all getting crazy.

But if you all think that i am evil incarnate then there is nothing i can do about it. I made a mistake only in thinking that sites expired after a few years.

What would you do if you had to delete a site? email everyone in the world in case it still had a link to it?

I'll leave you to do what you have to do.
Sorry for getting on your shitlist, it was nice doing business with you for these past 4 years.

Cheers. I'm going to bed.

Regards

Rayzor

404 it and send the traffic to a page with no ads, i.e. the default 404 page.

The bots would catch it and delete the listing. The LL webmaster would also see that you didn't 404 it to profit from the traffic in any other way.
Life goes on and everybody is happy.

Yea...that's definitely the right answer.

Damn, hate to see a link list owner do something this stupid and unthinking of the ramifications |loony|

Hang in there Stu...don't get that chinese dutch blood boiling too much darlin :)

For what it's worth (which I realise may be very little :) )

There are cheaters and there are people that just fucked up, albeit in a big way, and I think that's what happened here with Rayzor. From my dealings with him I know he is a straight up guy not out to intentionally fuck people over, and I know he's feeling like shit right now at his lack of 'knowledge' for want of a better word - as a LL owner he should have known, but he didn't. Ignorance I feel, rather than cheating.

This is my one and only post in this thread, feel free to disregard it, or disagree with it, just felt I had to say something for someone who I hold as one of the 'good guys', even though I agree you fucked up and should have done as swedguy said.

Morning everyone,

I've been re-reading this unfortunate thread and i really am sorry that so much trouble has been caused by so little an action.

Again, i can only say sorry and it was never my intention to cheat anyone. I have about 9000 pages on the internet in various places and i deleted about 8 pages.

My mirroring folder layout was a bit more chaotic in 2002 and so it wouldn't have been as clearcut that me deleting a site would leave a few index pages pointing to it still.

As for the sites still being listed after all this time, it was my sense of You=big, me=small that means it wouldn't have crossed my mind that any of you would care too much if some small-time webmaster deletes a couple of pages off his server.

As for emailing everyone. Think of the logistics of emailing everyone that you submit a site to 3 or 4 years down the track, it would take hours to find their addresses etc.

As for the 404, this is what happened, my 404 is my index page of my LL, although i have often intended to make it a serious 404 trap with loads of adverts (as is often advised these days), but in this case it would have pissed you all off more no doubt. As Swegyuy says about sending it to a blank page.. but then you would lose ALL 404 traffic from your entire server's worth of sites.

And Stu, as for this page: http://www.tittyfun.com/entrance.htm I have no idea why or how that would ever be in a listing as a freesite as this is an old mirrored entrace page to a largely redundant LL of mine. Again it 404's with the others.

So, all in all these were fuck-ups it seems, but they were not in any way cheating. Anyone that knows me knows i have always sent them good sites and i am not a badguy in any way.

All i can say is sorry for wasting your time and that i have certainly learned something.

But i think we can all agree that maybe this thread got a little heated, and that "There but for the grace of God go I" perhaps.

This thread reminds me of something my grandpa told me when I was 15: "Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with. " :D

and still it was in premium, its good you posted that you made an mistake and yes the thread went bad, i just can flip all the time if i see people i know making bad mistakes, hey i have made them too, but only after a couple of years in bizz you should prevent yourself from making those mistakes. Well you have learned a lesson now, but you will manage it all.

ladydesigner 2006-01-29 07:35 AM

I didn't want to poke my nose in this thread but....

While I don't "know" Rayzor personally, he's been submitting to my link list for a long time and I have hundreds of his sites listed. I've randomly been checking them and all seems good. I have personally made so many mistakes in this biz that I'd hate to see a good webmaster banned/have sites removed for something that he didn't intentionally mean to do. I mean, isn't it possible it was just a simple mistake? Are y'all so jaded that you automatically think everyone is cheating no matter what? Just my 2cents.

I think I need more coffee...

HarryM 2006-01-29 09:29 AM

I found the same kinda thing on my link list after that 2257 crap, people left up all their pages with banners still in place but deleted all the images or just redirected to a page with advertisments. I understand at the time things were a bit hectic but there is such a thing as common sense and no matter how you look at it they were trying to make profit using bullshit tactics. Best be straight up and do what Swedguy said.

ladydesigner 2006-01-29 09:41 AM

I think after reading this thread that I need to be more thorough with checking links and go deeper than the index page.

That's something MML discussed with me a while back. He pretty much said that you can't leave the quality of your list in the hands of a bot. GG has MML check EVERY PAGE of EVERY FREE SITE by hand at different intervals throught the year. It's a horribly time-consuming task, but he catches all of the shit that people pull after being listed.

Cleo 2006-01-29 10:14 AM

The time I spend each year hand checking every fucking link by hand really motivates me to ban anyone that does this kind of crap.

Same thing here. Nothing chaps my ass more than someone who acts irresponsible.
