I like this board because it’s huge collection of adult webmaster knowledge. Time here is never a waste, you always pick up something new or have nice laugh, just like it’s suppose to be. I think you guys does an outstanding job running it.

SheepGuy 2006-09-04 05:31 PM

Hmm..
Pretty much what everyone says, the community is the key. When I have a dumbass question I can generally find the answer here, and I help when I can with the non-tech stuff.
Great place to make deals! Only been here about a month and made a few.
About newbies, I was torn a new arsehole at first, but hey I asked for a review and the site sucked! I learned from it.
And I like Green so much I joined the Party ;)

Negatives, morning comes too early for most of the chit chat|yawn| My ass is barely out of bed then since I usually work until 3 or 4 a.m. If I really need to chat then, I wake up my wife and she usually has a few words for me ;)

Great place!!

-It's more about business less about meaningless threads. It's like the wallstreet journal with a sense of humor. It may turn off some webmasters, but they're usually the ones that spend the most time posting |bullshit| threads.

-No points / rewards for posting other than a buddy jesus at 1k. I think the value of the board comes in the information you get rather than some monetary amount put on a post.

-General sense of community here. People are posting because they want to post and not for some other convoluted reasons.

Dislikes (more like suggestions):

-I'd kind of like to see a tutorial section on the forum. There's so much bad information given out on other boards, it would be great to just have a section on how things should be done. Eventhough there's a noobie section on the board, the information often gets spread out or buried in a few weeks and god help if people actually use the search feature, lol. It would be nice to have tutorials though written by some board members in their area of expertise. Maybe make the threads locked so they don't get cluttered with comments, etc.

It'd just be a resource for newbie webmasters that could easily be refferred to and if they want to learn they can.

-Attached images....just have them open up in the thread :D I know this function can get abused, so maybe you can put a limit on who can use it, say 100+ posts before they get that priviledge. Personally, I just like the pictures opening in the threads rather than a seperate link.

-The mrblue smiley being added to the smilies, lol...yeah, I'm on a quest to get him added everywhere:

Most of mine have already been mentioned.

Likes:
- New webmaster friendly. If someone needs help it's quick to come from all angles.
- So much great free information! I sometimes think you should charge for access to this forum and split the proceeds.
- The webmaster resources section/GG stats etc is priceless. I dig something useful out of there a couple of times per week.
- The Radio Show. I wish it was a few hours earlier and a bit longer. The random member competition was cool. Never seen that before.
- No-nonsense straight-talking advice.
- Building business relationships and personal ones.

Dislikes:
- People leaving for strange reasons, personality clashes etc.
- Time zones.
:)

It's good to see I'm not the only one frustrated by the search function. I know Sparky assured me otherwise but the search form really doesn't do Boolean "AND" searches properly which is why it so often returns a gazillion results.

I do think the board has become a bit cliquey over the past year and that newbies or even non-regular posters may come in for more abuse sometimes than they should. Yes, newbies can ask silly questions and it's nice to have occasional drama but sometimes I think the "friendly" factor has dropped just a little.

I like the idea of some kind of tutorial for new people.

As for what I like - well, there's a lot. The main thing is that business always comes first here, which saves a lot of time. I've found the board very useful in searching for new sponsors as well as great for networking and general amusement.

GGs stats are great.

Ooh, another small complaint just popped into my head - some of the sponsor listings are a bit out of date.

OK... enough for now.

Greenguy 2006-09-05 05:53 AM

Search & Admin: these seem to be 2 recurring "dislikes" aobut the board & I'm not sure we can correct either of them. It's not like this is a custom script - it's the same script that pretty much every board out there is using :D

I don't search too much, but when I do, I haven;t noticed any problems that have not always been there.

As far as the admin goes, I think it's fine as well - maybe I've used it enough to know where most of the stuff is hidden? :)

****

Again, keep'em coming - I think Jim & I will do the entire Radio Show on these topics & see what "dislikes" we can work on correcting |shake|

If the site were called Greenguy and shithead I'd still come here.

Thanks for that, eman :) Really, all of these are good comments. But like Greenie said, we aren't sure what we can do about the board software itself. I rarely use the search function but I did last week searching 2 names using "and". The top thread showed was the one I was looking for. But I will see if there is anything on vbullitin addressing this problem.

No offence, I hope. I have a linklist-centric bias and Greenguy is my business model :)

Like:
1. Great member base, like no other adult wm board.
2. You can do business, without bs.
3. You can have fun while doing it.
4. Great moderators who keep this place tidy.

Dislike:
1. I spent too much time thinking about what I dislike, so I didn't make another free site. :)

BTW, if you need better search for this site, you can try to Google
" site:greenguysboard.com"

D) Greenies stat dumps. A fantastic reference point that I can use as a what to market guide with my traffic.

E) The newsletter. Compared to most other bs ones, It's actualy worth reading.

F) No rubbish payed to post setup and a bazzilion sigwhore wankers posting about unlike other boards.

Likes: The members. Truly nice people here. |bananna|

Dislikes: Drama threads.

Something I forgot to add:
I like that this board is relatively free of the sexist bullshit you see on other boards. GG&J doesn't assume that every webmaster is male and the guys here (mostly) don't make stupid or "pretendy sexist" comments just to piss the girls off.

Of course, now I've said that you'll all do it. |catfight|

Ooh, that smiley is another good thing.

Oh, and I also like the thing where nobody is posting porn photos because we're all just so bored with porn LOL Even if this thread is useless without pics.

I think this is because some things are really obvious to some people & they have a hard time grasping that they might not be as obvious to others (I have this problem)

I know there was a thread where you got bashed a bit :D What was that one? Maybe I can clear it up a bit.

Just personal preference though, and honestly I think its not something you could change now.

You do realize that Netpond has 40 forums & sub-forums, right? :D

We disabled that as it had a lot of info on there as far as who all of the board members are, their emails, IP's etc. I think we took the link out a long time ago, but the board upgrade might have put it back in (even though it's turned off)

I think a lot of it has to do with the attitude towards new people. Might not be just because they are new, but because they are clueless and someone ends up chewing their head off.

2257 brought everyone out of the woodwork :D I have noticed this as well & some of them confuse the shit out of me. People will register, make a post or 2, not even come close to being bashed & then you never hear from them again :(

I wonder how many people miss the part of the "welcome email" that asks them to post in the "Welcome To The Board" thread, start a thread announcing that they are a new member, it gets merged & they assume it got deleted?
(and no, I'm not going to change doing that, because it's clearly in the welcome email - lol)

Give us examples of what you think we should have tutorials on. I've had a tutorial for building free sites in my head for a long time now, but the problem is that it's really fucking long & every time I start to type it up, it seems to get longer :D

This ain't GFY my friend - it'll be abused (even by people in the Buddy Christ Club) it'd slow down the board, it'd encourage people to get their post counts up, etc. Just click the link :)

My understanding of this business has been learned from those who have been in it from the beginning and the replies they give to questions asked or topics raised in the various forums. The collective knowledge base on this board is a gold mine if you take the time to read, consider and implement whats being given by them as free advice to everyone. In most other businesses such a knowledge base would cost you a fortune to tap into and to not take into account whats written here, is foolhardy IMO.

Yeah thats a good example of me stepping on toes without realising. Though I hear similar comments from a wide range of people who don't post here, and the word 'sensitive' or 'touchy' is usually used.

Yeah but I can get almost a total look at np threads by checking out 3 forums ... here there are useful posts all over the place. I suppose is a really good thing, but being used to having most posts in the main forum .. sometimes it seems strange to me that the main forum here could have 1 post and a subforum may have 10 new posts. Probably not a biggie :)

You gave a good example there...a good freesite tutorial would be great to help demystify it for those people that don't regularly build freesites and who may be getting funky information from another source.

Gallery building, I'd be tempted to write that one myself, lol, of course I'd get the stamp of approval from a TGP God before I'd post it just to make sure everything is copacetic.

Photoshop tutorials...granted there's tons of them online as is, but there's shortcuts that you learn that makes photoshop a little more approachable and practical for "porn" tasks...i.e. batch processing, watermarking, etc, etc.

It's just I see some amazingly stupid advice given out on forums and usually by people who claim expertise, but have a vested interest in tossing out worthless information.

When I got into mainstream, I was confused as fuck. They were talking about the same shit as in adult, but everything was named differently.
Since I have been in this for some time, I knew where to find info about what they were talking about. Search, find a sticky thread on the boards, FAQ somewhere or just poke around on the boards/resources.
But if I was fresh, I would probably have posted and would've got flamed to pieces.

So how about a sticky (and also add it to the welcome email) with the most common questions? Maybe you have it already (I admit, I haven't looked lately ;) ).

It's clearly in the welcome email where to post. But sometimes people miss stuff and instead of pissing them off by thinking that their thread got deleted, send them a friendly PM saying that it got moved to the proper place.
