and the smaller ones that I have applied for they say they aren't putting editors on...which would be nice of them to say BEFORE you fill out the application.

I have nothing against them as a whole..I have done a LOT of reviewing in my time in this biz and hence me at one point wanting to lend those skills to them. Oh well :)

You could try getting into a different area. I always found that getting a celeb category to edit was easy. You can start there and then move to where your expertise is.

I applied a couple of times before I found out some of the ppl in charge there and now know I can never be an editor there because of philosophical differences.

*footnote: their bot is spidering my pages almost daily. lol

Not true. There are complete records of when editors log in and edit....laziness is easy to spot. ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Just build a site for the link lists, submit it TO THE CORRECT CATEGORY, and forget about it. If it gets listed, great. If not, oh well. You don't need a recip, and it's not that hard to get listed. Most of the good link lists have tougher rules than dmoz. Don't waste your time checking your stats every day looking for dmoz.

Most of the editors don't abuse the system, and do the best they can wading through the absolutely mind boggling amount of totally stupid bullshit to find a good site or two to list.

You'd be surprised at how much good traffic you can get, and how long it lasts, but it doesn't happen overnight, if it happens at all.
