Is it however a criteria used in evaluating a site?

Say you had two identical sites except 1 had category recip and the other had the general recip and you had one to pick one. Would you give the cat recip an extra point or two, or just flip a coin?

Although general recips are easier on the submitter, I don't mind taking another few seconds to use the cat recip if it pleases the list owner...especially a high traffic list owner.

Just add "mom" to that and you'd sound like my eldest son :P Some kids are too smart for their own good ;)

What about text-only recips? Any recommendations for those?

I will also take single recips and always have, but I do prefer category recips. I also build freesites, so I am familiar with the extra work linking to cats. It's not that much more work really, after you've hunted down the niche links once you simply reuse them.

But I wonder why LL owners would not prefer cat links over single general links as you then have to re-filter the surfer. Not to mention pumping niche targeted traffic into your categories to boost traffic for those very same submitters.

Another point for niche recips might be the extra backlinks for our cats which then may get better search engine traffic, that then provides the submitters with better and more traffic...

These are the ones I submit to that allow a general recip. A couple of them are social bookmark sites.

This is why I use cat recips when I can - told the same thing to Tigermom in a chat yesterday.....

As far as MY LL is concerned I don't care but on my FS's, I'd like to keep the site as surfer friendly as possible

Ok, I'm late reading this thread...but one recip is fine by me. I've had one on my recip page for a while, or you can make your own.

I know most of you don't care but just want to confirm. I doesn't affect the review of the site if a general recip is used right?

I have a general recip on all my sites now.

I have no problem with one recip, some of my link lists have category recips (I need to change that back anyways) the rest have had just 1 recip for quite some time. :D

I've voted for "I have category recips but I'm willing to accept also a one link recip regardless of the other recips on the page".
We have no any automated tools for checking "double links nature" in recip tables.

But in general, if link sites groups will move to the one link standard recips, it will cause of dropping some niche positions for us comparing to other site groups, like TGP and Blogs. The one link recip tables is not less spammy than double recip tables.

I think category trades "use to" help, alas, no more.

I'll throw a wrench in here just for the hell of it.. One of the reasons category linking isn't as effective as it could be is because it ends up being a A<->B exchange... So instead of getting rid of the cat links, why not say you prefer they use a category link recip that doesn't match the cat they're submitting to... Now the submitter can pick 1 cat recip and use it all the time but you get the benifit of an A->B recip. Both of you benifit...
