Zactly and perfectly said.

Usually the posts are redundant so the titles are the same, so i'd think if you see the same title on 3 or 4 or 30 boards at some point it would be useless to click on it, unless of course you want to see the different prospectives.

I only go to other boards when someone 'hoo or Que's me a link i need to read..otherwise if they don't post it here, it doesn't get past my eyes.

I attend several boards and sometimes I post the same msg on more than one. Since I'm active on all boards and will do a follow-up on each board I don't consider it spamming.

I spam in the spam section |bananna|

Hey GreenGuy, I feel bad now...about beaing one of the people who come onto this board and (almost, but not always) just say hello to new arrivals. But then again, I do try to contribute a little something. Most of my time is spent building freesites, actively persuing more knowledge about this business and trying to put it all into good use.

I am one of the guilty ones however who have posted to another board, but only to try and gain some submissions and extra link trades.

GG&J is my favorite board though. I've learned alot of what not to do and what to do in the short time of beaing in this biz. This board definitly has the best group of people!

CybrFire - you're not one of the people on my "Welcome to the board" watch list :)

Vendzilla 2004-02-08 01:08 PM

I've seen this thread before, on another board, was it you? I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as it get's people thinking and posting. Kinda like a community thingy.

Ms Naughty 2004-02-08 05:47 PM

Yes, it was me, also known as KarenJ, I put it on 5 boards.
And most people seem to say: if it's relevant, then it's OK.

I got the strongest negative reactions from the GG&J board :)

Grandma...

It appears that there must have been a bill of rights passed for board spammers...:(

A traffic-broker spammed my board - which is a NO SPAM board - the other day.. so we did some creative editing... and he actually came back and said..

IF YOU DID A FUCKING BOARD WHERE WE COULD SPAM YOU WOULD NOT GET TO EDIT OUR MESSAGES WITH YOUR STUPID NON-PROFESSIONAL SHIT!
LOL.. so now they think that I have to have a spam board just for them!!

Spam board spamming seems to have been some sort of legitimate practice - http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...&threadid=4628 - at least in some peoples minds.

For me.. SPAM is SPAM!

So Dave, you do not condone posting press releases or similar on the official spam/announcement sections of boards?

I've always thought spam threads/forums are useful because they give you somewhere to put the word out, and if a potential customer is looking for the info, they have access to it. It's not necessarily forced in their face...

DangerDave 2004-02-09 01:05 AM

No No... They can spam all they like on spam boards...

It's just that now people seem to be employed, or make their living out of spamming spam boards... that has changed... from the occasisonal cut and past spammer to a "spammers union" of posters.;(

It's just a symptom of the times I spose... but there are now boards that have more posts on their spam boards than some of their regular boards.

I haven't seen anything like a professional spamer, except for that Lawrence Connor guy, and he's just weird!

This is the only board I frequent, every now and then I will post double on GFY. There's too many people over there to ignore it.

cherrylula 2004-02-10 01:38 PM

Hell yeah its annoying. Of course sometimes its important so no big deal.

But the worst is when program owners announce updates or new models, and post their announcement with the same pic on all the boards. Why not at least use a different pic for each board to make it more interesting?

If one desires to post the same thing on several boards, at least shake it up a bit so those who do click into the threads at different places can at least get some variety out of it.

That would make more sense.

Why re-invent the wheel when you don't need to?

Carrie 2004-02-10 04:08 PM

Heck I'm still trying to get BoardTracker to even *work* correctly. Everytime I try to input my preferences I get a nice fat database error. :(
And it seems to be sending me all kinds of stuff for no particular reason.
