Bit disappointed with the dichotomy of the state I live in. Florida goes progressive and elects Obama but at the same time approves a discriminatory ban on gays.

terry 2008-11-05 06:41 AM

Congrats Obama

Yes WE Did!!! |thumb

Sorry to hear Cleo about that bill being defeated but there is hope on the horizon that perhaps we'll make some subtle changes that will be more inclusive in the future.

LD 2008-11-05 07:52 AM

Holy shit it's over. I'm in a solid red state, but have supported Obama all along.

It's a good day today...

I was moved to tears too, the wife said "are you crying"
I sobbed "yes I am"

I was a bit teary, but was also doing happy dances too.

I too felt like finally we will win back respect in the US. MadHatter said in Europe they wanted Obama voted in 4 to 1. I hope he gets on a national health care plan soon...I'd so love to be able to afford a better health care plan. |thumb

Too bad FL voted down gay marriages, but MI voting to legalize medical marijuana made me proud.

sue-fl 2008-11-05 10:17 AM

That was a great speech |thumb I was more than teary eyed I was crying like a baby.

Shame on Florida for the saying yes to 2 |catfight|

President Obama |bananna|

My birth state of Indiana voted for a black man, I never thought I would see that happen.

So much has changed.

But I agree Cleo, we still have such a long way to go, and the next battlefield is for gay rights.

I still can't believe Indiana and Virginia.

The country's pretty fucked up about gay rights and gay marriage... I hope the political climate changes a bit over the next few years. One thing for sure, having the party that has fundamental Christians as its constituency out of power is a nice first step.

I had a the biggest frog in my throat when he was giving his speech. My lady was on the couch crying. I started cleaning up the kitchen just so I wouldn't loose it.

Such an amazing time.

Even though Latinos & African-Americans came out for Obama, as a voting block they are socially conservative and that is what got those horrible things passed.

Yeah, I almost broke down while running on the treadmill today just from seeing all the video of the worlds reaction.

I'm such a girl.

I was ok till I saw this video, then I lost it.

Thank you America for voting |bananna|

RedCherry 2008-11-05 08:27 PM

The palinforpresident.us song got to me where his speech was put to words. And I was tearing up on and off after I saw he won.

I can't believe in my county (Nye) the majority voted for McCain, even though Nevada went for Obama.

Come on, this county has legal brothels, and they vote for McCain? Whats up with that? |loony|

miz_wright 2008-11-06 12:04 PM

My state still isn't either colour - though the numbers go to blue, the margin is pretty tiny (0.02%).

While I am thrilled at the progress Americans have made in prejudicial choices, I am stunned and heartsick that Prop 8 passed in CA.

I loved this cartoon from the Indianapolis Star
