I still think people should use their domain name and not the address that they get from their ISP.

Getting spammed from someone opening numerous isp accounts is a good reason. Somebody must be pissing people off because @rogers.com is banned at some TGPs as well.

Another issue is banning the entire nameserver of a host. I remember when ProHosters nameservers were banned at many places. WTF? Banning the nameserver of a host? Well I just picked up a server at ExtremeRack and one TGP I submit to has their nameservers banned. Jesus there's honest people hosted there too. |angry|

From day one I used my ISP email because as a submitter I never really owned any sites like I do now. I am heavily considering a change to my webmaster email though. I use it for some sites when submitting and it would help in recoginition too I think.

Yorgo,

This sort of bullshit will make you no friends!

I guess Wazza isn't man/woman enough to respond to simple question like that.
Someday, the shoe will be on the other foot, Wazza. And since you chose not to respond to a simple little request to me, I hope that when it happens to you, it happens GOOD.
Guess what....... you are staying banned here too!

yorgo 2004-04-18 05:34 PM

DD,

I had no idea people would be so sensitive. I wasn't trying to create enemies. Just having a little fun! |waves|

Besides, Wazza never responded to my requested to find out what it was that I did that was so terrible.

Tell you what...if YOU think I am so terrible, keep me banned.
What can I do?

GG was extremely helpful. |waves|
Cleo was exceptionally helpful as well, and I know I pissed her off more than once - the difference is she GAVE me another chance. And I appreciate it. |bow|

I was told these message boards were designed for US newbies. We are at times gonna step outta line, without knowing or even thinking, simply for being new.

DD, I apologize to Wazza, but Wazza has only been cruel to me. Being like that to someone, without explanation, is rather heartless in my opinion.

Hmmm, now we have two threads in one…

Yeah banning name servers can really suck. My hosts name servers got banned. I bitched at my host, they kicked off the bad accounts and got their name servers unbanned so maybe it isn't such a bad thing. Actually if my script able I could think of a few name servers that I would ban.

The problem with @rogers.com is the same problem that is with anything free, yes I do realize that you are paying for your ISP, is that people don't take responsibility for their actions thinking it isn't their domain on the line so they feel free to do abuse using it.

As far as the fact that you are still using your ISPs e-mail even after you are an established webmaster is you are creating a weak link in your business communication. What if you move and have to change ISPs or just decide to switch ISPs for whatever reason? Or because of idiots using your ISP's free account it gets banned at places, like it already has?

To be honest the only reason I removed @rogers.com is because I've met you and your your wife in person so I feel bad banning something that you use, but if next week I get a thousand crap submits from webmasters using @rogers.com I will have to add it back in no matter how much I like you and your wife.

For what it is worth I went from using my free @bellsouth.net e-mail to using my domains in the late nineties and now as I'm looking at switching to a cable modem which is about three times faster and half the price of my bellsouth DSL I'm really glad that I did as it is giving me the freedom to switch.

yorgo 2004-04-18 05:48 PM

Hey Surfn,

Tell you what. I'm in the process of submitting my next site. Every suggestion made by Cleo, GG and yourself, have been incorporated into this site.

I did the best I could as far as editing is concerned. I've taken every iota of wisdom that all of you have given me and have applied it to my latest creation.

Check for it in your mailbox!

P.S. I was advised about 4.5 months ago from another seasoned webmaster that mouse overs were okay, even to the extent that I took it to.

I am not a cheater by nature. I am a |newbie| !!

That posts that I was involved in yesterday with Cleo, cleared up a lot of questions, and cleaned up my submissions.

And finally...I wasn't trying to abrasive...just trying to illicit a response. Sorry for ruffliing feathers.|waves|

If you submit to my LL then it would be in my Admin not my email. Also, I do NOT mind mouseovers done correctly.

yorgo 2004-04-18 05:57 PM

What would be a correct mouseover?

If you need to ask you shouldn't use them. Cleo has a link to her resource page that shows the correct method. Plus if you did a search on your favorite SE you will find tons of examples and explanations on their proper usage. :)

DangerDave 2004-04-18 06:05 PM

Yorgo,

The only person I see being "sensitive" here is you..

In order to get listed on "our" Linklists, you need to listen to us, and take on the information we give you. We don't blacklist people out of spite, and most of us have specific reasons for doing it if we do.

If you ask a question you need to give the webmaster at least a few days to respond. You are one webmaster of 1000's. We are one of a few LL owners.

Do no blame US if your site does not get listed, look at your site, and listen to what you are told, and apply that information to your site.

If you want to get hold of me...you must say my name three times backwards in the moonlight during a full-moon while sacrificing a virgin.

(if you can find one?)

Or you can post on this board. I read it everyday.

yorgo 2004-04-19 11:40 PM

Thanks Jay...but, trust me on this, IF anyone can find the virgin, they won't be letting anyone else know about it, that's for sure!

Fair enough :)

Then again, who are we kidding here?

Madonna 'pretended' to be a virgin for awhile - and most of the public bought that for a while...like anything else, its all relative.

Also what Surfn said about pornrex.com on your gallery pages. I can't speak for Surfn, but if you said something like Click Here for more free porn and linked that to your list then it would be ok with me.

Why the hell would you ban rogers.com? it's a legit paid address and many people use it instead of hosting address. That's as rediculous as banning www. I am seriously curious as to why it's banned as I use a rogers.com for al my submissions myself becuase msot link lists and tgps collect these emails to spam the hell out of me. I leave my domain address for more important legit emails.

That's a very good point. I don't look forward to the day that I change my ISP, and that day is commig fast. Myself I am going to start using my domain address for everything. But teh problem with people banning an email domain like rogers.com is that some script will delete all lsitings that were submitted from that address. Just kinda sucks is all.

Cleo is right in that @rogers.com is a free email account. Actually with my high speed cable account I am allowed to have 5 email addresses so cheating is easy. Not as easy as Yahoo, but still easy just the same.

@rogers is banned at several TGPs I submit to as well.

Cleo, I'm gonna take your advice and make the change. Time to email a whole ton of TGPs today.
