this maybe just my opinion again but i think if boards are completely loose and free for all to be comfortable to post without hesitating or worried about how to reply to posts, etc...it would be a much more successfull board...and maybe just my opinion...i still like you guys here...

That's GFY and many of the other boards. Like it has been said before, this board is more of a gathering place for people to get helpful responses, discuss issues business or non-business related and still get people to recognize you. Talking to people and getting to know them is one sure way to get them to promote your program, which I think alot of people don't realize.

There are rules, and just like with any link list or anything else you follow the rules of the people who run the site. This board is different in that you dont have to go through 500 threads about "BREAKING NEWS" or drama threads to get into some good conversations. Hell I have been in some political debates on this board that were actually good and educational, unlike GFY where you get ignorant responses. It's structured and organized and is definitely the best place to hang out.

The quality and experience level of the webmasters who post here make this board unique. Add that to the very affordable advertising rates and i think you can easily understand why they keep a tight leash on the board.

I doubt they will lose any traffic, as a potential advertiser you should be more concerned with getting your banners up here then anything else.

Buy a spot...be l33t

Looking forward to meeting you in Vegas Raffi

Raffi - we're not like every other board out there & we're proud of that.

We don't put up with spam of any kind. Those that are paid advertisers & those that contribute to the board helping others can post whatever they want whenever they want, but other than that, we move post to the proper forums.

We have many different categories because we realize that some people don't want to read every little post on subjects & topics that don't apply to them. Just like a Link List or TGP, we categorize things to make everyone happy :)

The Chit Chat forum is a perfect example - some people don't want to shoot the shit about non-business stuff, so by having that forum, they don't have to sift thru 100 posts to find the 10 that interest them.

And we have no surfers that post - ZERO! We are all webmasters here.

The "potential advertiser" thing doesn't fly either because we have advertisers that have paid for banners & newsletters & posting privlages - is it fair to them to let you post for free? Do people advertise your program & sites for free hoping that you'd let them become an affiliate? Come on :)

If your sole purpose in posting on this board is to promote your program, then this board is NOT for you.

This is why this is my favorite webmaster board :) Its run as a webmaster board not a surfer board like GFY where you have to weed through 200 threads to get a webmaster related thread

Quality over quantity any day :)

Useless, You rule!

I wonder if people who post topics like:
"This is why this board can lose traffic"
realize that first thing that happens is GG and or Jim will respond usually politely.
Then, a number of board readers will jump in defending the same policies. Why? Are they all suckups?
Maybe, or maybe we are just plain comfortable and happy with getting the industry news and opinions in fifteen minutes instead of 2 hours :)
If you have 2 hours to waste, feed the dog and then time how long it takes for him to shit.
In case I did not mention this also is one of the two places I come when I am looking for sponsors, content or scripts since I know they are serious enough about their business to pay money to be seen. In my mind that makes them more likely to be serious enough to be professional in their products and or services. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

In my humble message board experiences over the last several years... there are very few people who outwardly object to a "tightly" moderated message board. It's a win-win for us all.

It's good for the sponsors who PAY for the promotion - and don't have that promo space dilluted by drive-by spam and board whores posting the same crap 24/7.

It's good for the board owner cuz being consistent - firm BUT fair! - is the only way to go. It keeps things under control and makes the board community a quality experience for everyone.

It's good for the webmaster/poster because knowing what to expect - and actually GETTING it is a rare thing these days. You know that if you come to GG&J you won't get bullshit. Pure and simple. And if you WANT to bullshit with your friends - hell, they've got a spot for that too. And if you WANT to read drive-by spam and board whore verbage - well they've done that too.

I gotta say hats off to GG&J and their mods for keeping this such a nice, clean place to come to. Nothing is perfect, but for us old school folks who come to expect certain qualities in a message board - you guys have really come through!
