I understand the post just made me question my doings :) CLoaking has been around for a long time now - I have had many people banned for it. its a shame because if someone over-cloaks all sites get penelized included the victom site. Which is why I have always reported cloaking to the search engines as soon as I found it. Its nice to give a little warning however you just might get fucked if the search engines have already recognized it. ESPECIALLY WITH GOOGLE.COM

Linkster 2005-10-24 11:37 PM

Here's my best guess at what they are doing - they recently bought the domain (around June 10th or so) and have a cloaking setup with Google to show some keywords for advanced placement for those keywords - here's googles actual cached page:
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache...en&lr=&strip=1
with all the clutter stripped out - this is what they are showing Google for now - it then redirects to that page copied off of Kalle's site.
This is in preparation for a scrape job it looks like - basically when they are ready they are going to start inserting their own aff codes - and since they are going to take the rankings in Google for this page - they will be positioned to basically "replace" all of Kalles listings in Google.

While some would consider this "ok" as there are quite a few people doing this type of stuff and getting away with it - Ive always held the position that it is unethical (there really is no illegal in the web world right now) and just the latest way to steal peoples rankings in the search engines.

My opinion flavored with way too much whiskey and beer and cajun food is that Kalle should send a C&D to their host - and if that doesnt work, file a DMCA with Google - get it published on Chilling Effects - and post on every board that these people are scammers - as this isnt the only site they have done it to - but then - thats just my opinion :)

Whoa!

A couple (alright "a few") thoughts and hopefully a helpful link?

Thought ballon one: The irritating thing about forums is that when a thread falls to snappiness its always frustrating that one is generally restricted from exercising quick violence as a way of making a point. |cool|

Thought ballon two: Like that idiot CEO from Sun Micro has repeated many times "privacy is dead" so I think "copyright is in its last throes". As an artist myself, I can wonder if this is truly a bad thing. The issues are too large to go into here. The only thing I do know is that I don't think it can be a good thing to loose all the public domain potential because Mickey Mouse needs to buy crack for another 25 years. |satan|

Thought ballon three: Frustrating as it may be, the web was inherently designed to be hackable and while frustrating at times, is also one of its charms.

Helpful link: Chasing down commercial losses due to infringement can be an arduous, frustrating task. Here's a link that can help you:

Doesn't this piece of code in your head tags prevent your page being loaded in a frame?

(Sorry I couldn't get it to paste correctly in a code, php, or even quote tag)

That is from TDavid Kalle :)

Damn that's kinda clever, is that what its coming down to?
So are you for figuring it out which I think you are completely right.

Ya know, rather than wondering, it's typically best practice to just ask them. If you do something wrong, you'll have made an enemy. If you ask, if there's a reason they don't want you doing so, they'll let you know -- and most of the time give you an alternative such as some alternate copy that they didn't use, or access to photos they're able to provide, etc.

Except for a select few who resent their affiliates, the affiliate programs would love to help you. The happier you are, and the more involved they can be with your marketing of their site, the better your marketing will be, and the more money you'll both make.

RE: "Do you know Al Gore?" I taught him everything he knows , he stole all my ideas when he invented the Internet. :)

No, I have not bought traffic lately that would have made them use my design at that specific placement for that reason.

Thanks Linkster |thumb . I will think about this and consider sending the complaints. This case has really confused me about what to do with it.

Thanks Jel |thumb I will try that and see if I can get it to work. TDavid has some real useful work.

I stopped reading this thread yesterday afternoon for some reason & after reading everything & trying to figure out ecchi's posts, I got very confused & will just say that I trust everything that Linkster says :D

ecchi - for the love of |buddy| learn how to use the fucking "quote" function - reading your posts is like trying to read hieroglyphics.

See how easy it is? You just hit the "quote" button in the post & then type underneath it :)

Greenguy 2005-10-25 05:53 PM

Oh - I will say this - I don't know how & I don't know why they are doing it & I of course like "free" traffic, but I too would be very suspicious of what the motives are.

Kalle - if you do not get a reply from them - might try contacting them at their 2257 address from one of their paysites -

Yes but it still looks terribly "Sun Reader-ish" to me.
