Oh great, there go my chances of winning anything.

I am Lucky

Well I am so lucky because I live in Las Vegas and love it here. Being that I am into webmastering, playing poker both online and in the casinos and this year I will be attending a few World Poker Tour events, and my great love for computers make this the perfect place to live for me.

I live in the city that both Comdex and Internext visit, it is wonderful! I just joined to community here and really like the matter of talk on this forum compared to others so far.

Well I have to get checking out all the other post and get caught-up here of the happenings going on.

Looks like I'm going, still have to book my flight and decide where I'm staying, I hate traveling. Actually Vegas is about the last place that I want to vacation since I've been there twice already and basically don't care for Vegas, must have something to do with the fact that I find gambling and drinking pretty boring.

Thinking of getting a room off of the strip and renting a car so that I can do a little sight seeing. I see hotels that are a few miles from the strip with a kitchen and all for about $50 a night.

Greenguy 2003-10-09 04:08 PM

Don't worry Cleo - The Bitch will go shopping with you :D

See Red Rock Canyons. I enjoyed it last month. The thirty minute drive is worth it.

If you are not staying on the strip, consider staying downtown. The hourly Freemont experience light show is great.

Cleo 2003-10-09 04:55 PM

I was just looking over at expedia.com and I found a 4 day package that includes a room at the Stratosphere Tower Hotel plus the flight and a car for $385.83.

I've been to Red Rock Canyon and would love to see it again. Actually I've never been to Nevada in the winter. What is the weather like during that time of year? Since I live in the tropics I don't own anything warmer then a light sweater.

I've been all over the west twice during my hippy years, spent about six months camping in all the national parks each time, but only during the summer months.

Chop Smith 2003-10-09 05:40 PM

Stayed at the Stratosphere in September. Might have been a similar package. I already have my plane ticket but considering staying there in January. If the new monorail system is completed, transportation to the convention center should not be too expensive.

Extreme John 2003-10-09 06:47 PM

I leave for Vegas in T - 2 Days and counting :) only for a quick 3 day ordeal |bananna|

Sorry Cleo, I love Vegas, not a HUGE gambler, well maybe a tad bit, ok Im ADDICTED to Craps, but other than that I still love vegas and I especially Love Internext in Jan.

Well Cleo, at that time of year it could get pretty cold. Being in a desert we only have two seasons here. Hot and Cold, both are at the extremes. In January it will probably be in the low 40s could hit 30s a few nights.

Did you ride the coaster? I loved it |bananna| |bananna| |bananna| the first 30 times. In January I will need to ride 30 more times LOL

Chop Smith 2003-10-11 06:46 AM

I am to old for that. I would love to see you on the new one that is going over the edge.

Surfn 2003-10-11 06:50 AM

I'll be on it |bananna| |bananna|

Since you don't want to go on the coaster how about we bungee jump together?

Chop Smith 2003-10-11 07:11 AM

How about me just watching?

docholly 2003-10-11 07:46 AM

Cleo: January and Feb are the 'rainy' months there.. and being that the ground is hard from baking from March to Nov.. there is a bit of flash flooding. However, it rarely affects the strip area.

As far as transportation goes, the strip bus and trolley are $1.00 and most casinos will provide transport to other casinos or have a mini-bus that runs around.

As far as hotels off the strip, that's my preference as well. We are staying at the Rio, and my 2nd choice would be the Orleans. If you re looking for an apartment type place, Cleo, try like the Budget Suites on Tropicana.. they are pretty decent and i think the weekly rate there is like 250 per week, which isn't bad.

KCat..i have a friend in vegas who runs in her home, the AAA Pet Hotel, she gives the dog/cat full run of her house or yard whichever they are more accustomed to, so if those on the link aren't what you are looking for hit me up.

Jim 2003-10-11 08:33 AM

If you get a chance and have the cash, take the helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. It is the ride of your life. It takes a few hours to get there and you fly over Hoover Dam and land on the floor of the canyon. Where they have a table setup with wine and cheese. They let you hang out there for about an hour where of course my wife had to smoke a joint (a lifetime dream to smoke a joint on the floor of Grand Canyon).

After leaving the canyon a few hours later, you are back in Vegas flying down the strip and then landing at the airport. I think it was about $1400 but...with 2 couples, it really isn't that bad of a price.

And of course, if you go to the Stratosphere, you have to go on the rides :) I love when you wait in line for the roller-coaster and feel the tower shaking :) The food was pretty good too. But, when they take your picture, be prepaired to pay about $40 for it :)

Cleo 2003-10-11 08:44 AM

I absolutely love roller coasters, will be riding them a lot. :D

I've rode a mule to the bottom of the grand canyon many years ago. The west is beautiful beyond belief. One of the most beautiful paces that I remember is Zion nation park.

Just what I need, you rolling film while I am puking and shitting in my pants. I'll take a pass.
But I'll hold your camera and video tape you on the way down.

I jumpped out of a perfectly functioning airplane a few years ago. That was enough excitement for a life time.

Greenguy 2003-10-11 10:23 AM

Cleo - just to clarify, the Vegas Rainy Season & your Rainy Season are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS I've been there 5 times in Jan for conventions & I think it rained 1 day :D

Cleo 2003-10-11 10:36 AM

Yeah our rainy season means sun is out with huge thunder clouds in the sky with bolts of lightening flying out of the sky while the rain is poring down so hard that it is impossible to see far enough to be able to drive while trees are being blown across the road and it is fucking 98˚F at 100% humidity outside. Basically it is hot and wet outside with a high chance of being killed for a few months. :(

Why do I leave here again, wait, that's right, it is fucking beautiful here 8 or 9 months out of the year. :D

I just put air in my bike's tires this week and started biking again. It is already cooling off, still pretty hot, and outdoor fun time. Roof comes off the car, windows on the house get opened, A/C goes off, just beautiful here all winter and spring. :)

What does all this have to do with Vegas?
Not a fucking thing…

Extreme John 2003-10-11 12:04 PM

Ahhh everyone's planning a little roller coaster venture huh? Good times. I cant wait to give MML a Boob hat myself, top it off with some sweaty plumbs, now thats a party :)

Dr. B I give you credit I cant jump out of a plane, no thank you.

Roller coasters, airplanes and helicopters? I think I'll be staying on the ground with the amount of alcohol I'm sure I'll be consuming.

Cleo
There are a ton of hotels all around the Venetian. Better to stay close to the show and drive to the shopping.

And speaking of shopping, my wife is coming so she'll be tagging along for that.

I've talked to a few friends who use Expedia and they are happy with the service.

Since I need to be able to do reviews, Luna is going with me most likely, I need to get to Starbucks since that is where the T-Mobile hotspot service is. Nothing like seeing folks spit out their coffee when they get a peek at my screen. :D

I see lots of locations for Hotspot service, (T1 Speed), in Los Vegas so this should be no problem plus I still get 128k internet on my cell phone.
http://locations.hotspot.t-mobile.co...6.asp?state=nv

I'm thinking of booking a day or two extra so that I can do a little sight seeing, haven't decided yet. I figure that I still have plenty of time to do my booking.

I still have to find someone that I trust enough to take care of my cats and my Blue Macaw. Someone that will go to my house each day and keep them company for a bit each day. :)

Really there's no way to do Vegas cheap. Avoiding the tables seems to lessen the damage some though.
