I am going to be right here in the middle of it right here by Houston. I don't have any way to leave (long story) and it's supposed to be 100 plus mph winds according to the local news. I am totally stressed out. At least I have some water, ice, and food and a grill as long as my house doesn't fall apart, at least. I tried to find D batteries for the radio so I could hear what was going on but they were sold out EVERYWHERE today. Wal mart, home depot, lowe's, the dollar store, even the little gas stations ALL sold out. It sucks!

I have to board up the windows tommorrow. Wish us luck!!!

I think this is gonna be bad for bush

if he does bad, everybody will say hes an idiot who cant learn from his mistakes

if he does good they are gonna say it was because the storm hit his homestate texas
and the blacks will say: see what happens when its white people that are in trouble

I seen on the news earlier today the Gov't trucks were already rolling into Houston. I think Little Georgie want's to make sure he dodges the bullets on this one.

Doug E 2005-09-22 02:01 AM

To make the night go by faster plan out a route of what and where youre going to loot.

Im only half kidding, take care down there.

GenXer 2005-09-22 02:08 AM

Thanks DougE. I won't loot LOL. At least I have some food and water, no need for all that. I just hope no one loots me :-)

Bill 2005-09-22 02:16 AM

I thought they were going to shoot all the pornographers in Texas? ;-}

Good luck, save your batteries, and watch out.

GenXer 2005-09-22 02:34 AM

You know the irony in all this, Bill. Until June, I lived in Central Texas not far at all from Crawford (Bush's little ranch). We moved here to Houston and now I am thinking "WHY did we move?" :-). If Bush had his way, you're right, he'd probably use me for target practice

Surfn 2005-09-22 06:36 AM

Rita is currently 175 MPH sustained winds :(

Linkster 2005-09-22 06:50 AM

More importantly - most of the news channels havent picked up on this yet - the computer models have shifted considerably from yesterday morning - and puts the storm over warm water a lot longer and very little cooling water before the landfall which has shifted considerably eastward towards La.

Currently wind gusts of 212 MPH :(

I saw that this morning.

My feelings on this hurricane are sooo conflicting. On one hand, I hate to wish it on someone else. But, I also don't want to be without power and internet for 1 or 2 weeks again. :(

On the other hand, N.O. is already destroyed, and most people are gone. Why destroy a whole new city/state?

Good luck to those in the area.

porndragon 2005-09-22 08:31 AM

Yeah it's aiming for Louisiana again they changed the path a lil in between texas and La now and possibly shifting further towards LA

SirMoby 2005-09-22 11:24 AM

We can't afford the war we started for profit.
We can't afford the cleanup from Katrina.
We can't afford the pending cleanup of Rita.
We can't afford to keep dealing with Halliburton misplacing billsions.

Maybe we just can't afford Dubya.

I hope everyone stays safe down there.

Good, I can't see how the right keeps defending this monkey!!! Maybe this will make a few turn their backs on a hypocritical administration. Doubtful, but one can always hope.

This is really bad again :( It's funny how you see thousands being loaded up on buses and taken to safety. Where were those buses in NO????? I know bush fucked up but what about the people in charge in NO? Texas is taking care of their people as they should. I saw only the privilege getting on buses in NO. I think the government of NO has to feel like shit right now watching the poor and the old being loaded up in Texas. When they left their helpless to die. |angry|

Good luck to everyone in it's path I wish you the best.

Cleo 2005-09-22 12:03 PM

I feel really bad for those folks that are going to get hit with this but fuck am I happy that it missed where I live.

urb 2005-09-22 12:12 PM

Cleo's avatar reminds me of a hurricane.

The best of luck to anyone who is in the path of that thing.

I can't find a version of the projection online, but my AOL Weather Bug actually has this sucker with the potential to hit Texas & THEN turning around & heading towards New Orleans after it hits land.

Cleo 2005-09-22 12:42 PM

Nice |shocking|

Maybe after it wipes out Texas and Louisiana it could head back and finish off Florida too.

Torn Rose 2005-09-22 01:10 PM

I just saw George on CNN, for the first time ever, I did not see him smirk once, I'm amazed, and he actually seemed concerned.

Cleo 2005-09-22 01:20 PM

We invaded the Mideast for their oil. Now a bunch of freak storms are going to destroy around one forth or our refineries. It's all the cock sucking republicans fault.

Linkster 2005-09-22 02:07 PM

Torn - dont get fooled - he'll be going down there tomorrow to make sure all preps get halted while he gets photo ops - then he's going out to command ctr in the underground mountain cave to watch the place go to shit

porndragon 2005-09-22 02:11 PM

Don't you just love the tuck tail and run presidents? I would fall out of my seat if we had a president who for once was like troops you can stay home I can win this one all by myself ;) better throw a pilgrim in there lol there we go..

Torn Rose 2005-09-22 02:12 PM

lol, I was not fooled at all, that's why I said he SEEMED concerned.

porndragon 2005-09-22 02:14 PM

porndragon 2005-09-22 02:16 PM

I think he's very concerned. This might make its way to Crawford or damage some of the property that he and his buddies owns.

SirMoby 2005-09-22 04:44 PM

According to the mayod of Galvaston, they stopped bus service this morning and if you're still there you are own your own.

The weather channel interviewed a lady that spent 9 hours stuck in traffic, went less then 8 miles and decided to just go back home to Houston before she ran out of gas.

urb 2005-09-22 04:53 PM

Is Bush drinking again?

Yep I'm in Houston area and the traffic was just insane. I did finally try to go due to the urging of my parents, but I ran into the same problem. I used a half tank of gas just to go 20 miles in 7 hours. I had to go back home. Oh well. My kids were sweating in the car because I had to turn off the A/C to conserve gas/prevent overheating. Also had to give a couple a ride home that was stranded. At least they are safer at home than they would be stuck on the side of the road. Glad I could do one good thing for someone.

digifan 2005-09-22 11:22 PM

Genxer,

stay safe and take care of your family... you are in my prayers.

MrYum 2005-09-22 11:44 PM

Stay safe GenXer...and stay away from the windows when the wind is really blowing hard.

I rode out hurricane Charley last year in a hotel about 20 miles south of landfall. The power of these things is amazing!

Be smart...give windows a wide berth...and watch for rising waters. You'll be okay man...and you'll have some breathtaking stories to tell afterwards :D

Cleo 2005-09-23 10:24 AM

CNN is reporting that one of the NO levees has already started failing.

At least it isn't snowing…

Surfn 2005-09-23 10:38 AM

I doubt there will be any levees left in NO after Rita :(

Now they are two of them :(

Cleo 2005-09-23 10:51 AM

They are already saying that next year's season will be just as bad and could last for decades. :(
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/loc...home-headlines

Wondering what it would cost to put a levee around my house and maybe raise it about ten feet. I'm in the X zone as far as floods go which is suppose to be a good thing but I haven't figured out how to actually tell whet the elevation is of my property is.
