Likes:

- That Green fella (although his mrs is much nicer).

- Board Categorisation. Makes it nice and easy to browse through topics of interest. Although it can occasionally lead to missing other threads. Maybe big / important threads could be "copied" so they're live on other parts of the board as well, but they're still just one thread? (I think WMW can do this, dunno if this version of VB can).

- Hey [Username] type threads. They're an innovative way of getting attention and personally, the responses to some of them are as funny as the "I'm just a sexy girl" thread of old on another board.

Dislikes:

- Cliques, herd mentality & mimicking the Board Leader's attitudes with magnified zealotry. This goes on pretty much at all boards all over the web unfortunately and I don't believe it's been started or encouraged by GG or Jim in any way. I've never liked gangs, so it tends to make me more of a lurker.

adairk 2006-09-06 08:31 PM

No Dislikes, but the sites that people own here are out of my league!
I just own a few webcam sites and don't have the content you people seem to be looking for and the contacts I had made to site owners had been ignored si I felt I was just wasting everyones time including my own here.
All the best,
Ken Adair

matt 2006-09-06 08:56 PM

I like the way the forums are divided. It's good not having to peruse all threads to find ones on the topics I'm interested in.

And there's some really good posts here, many of which are on topics that don't seem to appear on other boards I read.

The search is ok, not great, but I guess that's an issue with vB.

I really dislike the 'herd mentality' as Jeremy put it. And a lot of people seem set in their ways / down on new ideas & doing things differently. I commend GG for making changes to his LL rules cause it's good to try a different format & freshen things up for both him and submitters. But on the other hand being down on people that want to list a few galleries or whatever else on their linklists is pretty rough. Copying and / or doing things exactly the same way as everyone else is not the way, IMHO, to make money in business.

Maj. Stress 2006-09-06 10:45 PM

If it has not been mentioned yet, I'd like to have archives for OTB just like the radio show. I have a feeling I missed a good one last week.

It would also be nice to see if anyone has commented on recent threads that I have posted in. Some days I have a short memory and this board can move pretty fast at times.

Other than that, this board is a great source of information and sometimes amusement. (That UW character can be pretty funny at times.) :D

If you go into your user panel under Messaging & Notification there's one called Default Thread Subscription Mode and you can change the default to get an email when someone replies to a thread you've posted in. Is that what you mean?

Maj. Stress 2006-09-06 11:40 PM

Hi Ponygirl,
Thanks for that info. I never looked into that before. I'll have to play with it some more and see if I can just select certain threads that interest me. It would be a waste of time and resouces to receive email notifications on just general chit chat, etc. I was thinking more along the lines of just checking a box in a thread to let me know when it is updated.

Ms Naughty 2006-09-06 11:41 PM

Hey, I think I'll second that suggestion about mousing over a thread to get the first sentence. I don't know if the board software can do that but I think it might save time.

The greatest thing on this board is everyday you find something new or different you can use and stay in this business

what I like to see in the future is some kind of projects we can do together get for example more traffic

That option really annoys me & I think it was turned off for a reason other than my annoyance :D

Maybe Sparky can see if there's a way to add it as an option in the User CP?

rokanrol 2006-09-07 08:31 AM

I think, then I post ;)

Neveena 2006-09-07 08:39 AM

i like this, because is full, everything you need is here! every respons on question...i get without asking :P

Lisa 2006-09-08 07:46 AM

I wasn't going to say anything...but then I figured if I don't then you'll never know eh?

The ONLY thing I dislike about this board is the sometimes pedantic moving of posts to other forums. A while ago I posted a thread in the main forum looking for a particular type of content. I posted it there because I wasn't just looking for content providers to come out of the woodwork and spam me, I was also looking for recommendations from people I trust.

Sadly it was moved to the 'I'm looking for...' forum. Appropriate? Probably. Useful? Not at all. Not only did I not get even a reply from a spamming content provider, but considering that most people don't read that forum unless they have something to offer (ie. sell) or are extremely bored, I ended up with no answers at all.

I find it difficult to believe that not one member of this board knew where I could get what I was looking for...but those that most likely could, never saw me ask the question before it got moved.

To me, that devalues the enormous business knowledge available on this board. It's there...I want to be able to take advantage of it damnit! :)

coaquest 2006-09-08 08:04 AM

Lurkers and lack of postings

As Mr Yum ,said: that you have opened this thread spekas volumes about your integerty! (that's our accent, not a typo)

WE (married monogamous couple) are very glad to have found your board and read avidly! We have a concept we are working on, and as a consequence, we have been "lurkers" here up to now.

Likes:

Real webmasters discussing real mechanics / operations / situations.

Real and honest opinions, answers, and suggestions...not trumped up BS *free advertiseing* crap.

Dislikes:

We don't really DIS-like anything about the board. We are sometimes overwhelmed by the shear wealth of information available...but that is also something we like about this board...and your whole GG&J idiom altogether. WE don't hink you should try to pander to a narrow demographic within this already specific genre of Web-Folk. WE think that it is up to all of us on our own to disseminate.

Sometimes there are cat-fights on the board...but they are more entertaining than bothersome, especially when it is obvious that the involved parties are completely missing one anothers' points/ arguments: but that is a critique of but a few threads...not a statement of how you run the board, so we hope THAT element is just something you accept as part of human nature.

Speaking for ourselves; we came here in search of knowledge, and so far we are able to find answers enough to our questions by searching the board and following through links you provide. We hate to be the 3,458 th person to ask a question, so we always put some effort into finding our answer before we get *lazy* and ask for ourselves...as a result, we have learned more than we thought we wanted to know, and are better for it!

Note: we had to re-register in order to post this (not a problem). WE are completely happy (so far) with the operation here...but give us time and maybe we too can develop some attitude for someone to rip apart - and we can ALL have a good luagh at THAT!

Thanks for breaking the Ice for us with this thread!

Likes:
- The separation of bull and business. Whatever you do don't merge any of the forums. IMO places like GFY are completely worthless for anything but spamming.
- The actual usefulness of business related posts, lotsa good stuff here for someone wanting to learn.
- The username thingy, makes me feel loved. :D

Dislikes:
- I agree with those who have said this can sometimes be a harsh environment for newbies. On the other side of that coin is the amazing fact that so many people who in reality are in competition with each other get along so well and help each other out.

That really is a "better safe than sorry" policy, because if those threads were allowed out here, there'd be more of them & they'd be very full of spam.

I know I read that forum everyday & if I have something to contribute, I do - and from the other people that do post there from time to time, I think there are a lot of bigger board members reading that forum as well.

When Jim & I opened this board, one of the points we wanted to get across was that we'd never sugar coat anything, so we sometimes come across as know-it-all assholes :D

But we're trying to get better (especially me) Look at the thread that Simon form IA Cash posted about what to start up (TGP, Link List, etc) 2 weeks ago I'd have bashed him senseless :D But I think that I was helpful while I also got the point across that you do actually have to work to make decent money :)

stuveltje 2006-09-08 09:59 AM

what i like about this board:
-i like i still see the same persons here who i met at ans board when i started this bizz, the newbies i have met ...most are gone. so seeing the good old persons around gives me a bit a home ( oh yeah i probably talking bullshit again, but then me not english hehehe)
- the amound of new friends i made here
- the fact you realy can post what you think here, ofcourse if you start to flame people you should also post the reason why.
-the fact i talk bad english and still i am accepted on this board ( think of it, when i post on dutch boards i put also english words in it, so i am also bad with dutch writing:D)
- the laughs
- the help
- the seperate forums
what i dislike:
ahummm this..... and ahummm that........again this:D i realy dont know what i dont like|huh oh yep, tell me more about the secret forum:D naa its a great place:)

eman 2006-09-08 10:23 AM

I like:
The sponsor page - I'm working my way through it

Greenguy

Jim

The Radio Show - although I wish I could comfortably listen to it live in the UK

I dislike:
English speakers who criticise foreigners for their poor grasp of English but who then go on to misuse "then" when they mean "than", "alot" when they mean "a lot". "there" when they mean "their" etc

Jim 2006-09-08 10:28 AM

Alot is a good one for me too. I am surprised by how many people don't know it's really 2 words :)

Greenguy 2006-09-08 10:34 AM

I have learned that that it's a lot & not alot, that then refers to time & their is personal :D

cockhungryhoes 2006-09-08 04:44 PM

I lissened to the show about likes and dislikes
There was some talk about new members being bashed. I still would consider myself new, and I will say I have been bashed a little. I look at it like this. This is a small community here. If you want to be a part you have to take some bashing. Its normal. As far as the online porn community goes there are some big players here. If you belong and are worth while of being here you have to prove yourself a little. Its just how this and most businesses are.
My likes
I like the advise I get. Sometimes my questions are Noobie questions, or some would say "stupid question" but I am a Noobie. I might get bashed a little, but I get tons of help from everyone. I belong to alot of boards, I signed up for all of them I could find. I like it here best. I dont log on to any of the others anymore. There is substance here that is like no other. The other boards seem like there full of spam, and just people looking to scam. I can honestly say this board helps me stay in the business. You guys rock.

i think like this, not one question is stupid, newbie or oldie, after almost 6 years i still have stupid questions, but you know what, i dont care if someone find it stupid, i just will ask my question, there is always someone around who is willing to answer you.mmm there was a saying, i dont know what anymore....heay i am getting old also...it was something like...its stupid to not ask ....no no it wasnt that, it was different.....oh never mind to late for me here:D

Amen, eman!

Though that affront is balanced by the thoughtful suggestions eventually offered to non-native speakers of the tongue...another "LIKE" for us with regard to this board.

So what do you like and/or dislike about this board?

Give us a list of each.

Don't worry if you dislike something that's you assume is a hard & steady rule of the board - we're looking for honest opinions.

I have only spent a few hours reading and looking around so far but I can give you my early impressions which I think are also important. I know I have a lot more to read.

You GG seem too fair, and thats great :) I don't know how you keep such a level head. It's obvious to me and you I'm sure that some people post things here with a hidden agenda. But you allow them to play stupid and give them the benefit of the doubt.

You Jim are just a friendly bear hehehe but when I read on I may find another side of you.

small negative for me was your hidden hello thread. But I realise that you have to organize your page to try and keep it clean so no biggy.

I can't link to your for several reasons like I have a sex counter and I think my site is free but not in your vision of what a free site should be.

As far as I have been able to summise so far, link sites have evolved to become super tgps and free sites have evolved to become super galleries. All nice and efficient. I have a lot to learn about hub control and free site infrastructure but I think I have the general idea now.

I am working full time on my site and hope to be able to form a good symbionic relationship with a few top boards. yours bb and gfy you are all so different but have the same goals. I hope I fit in here because even though my site does not fit into your current rules I have the same phylosophy as far as honesty and quality the rabbit and the tortoise, common sense, ect.

Generally the layout is great and so far the people seem very friendly and some what generous. I look forward to meeting the people in your community and learning from the millions of hours of experience that are housed here.

No hidden agenda just my honest opinion|loony|

good luck with your present future ideas GG & Jim

I second that too, I think it's a real time saver, since sometimes thread titles don't reflect the thread contents very well.

Other than that I have no real suggestions. Although sometimes answers from established people to newcomers can be a bit harsh like some people mentioned before, I think that also actually is one of the board's best qualities. I think it's better to have someone tell you the raw honest truth than kissing your ass and let you continue fucking up. That and the number of participants is what I like best here...

Your right of course, sorry about that. I never had a problem finding it. What I was trying to say is that not many members seem to go inside and say hello. The ratios of hello's verses users seems low. but it's not that important anyway |bananna|

I was not trying to say I disliked anything here, just trying to figure things out really and where I stand in the free site world. Your free system is great and I want to to make a hub surrounded by 100 free domains all GG & Jim Compliant |bow|
Sounds like a great new project. Each could be a different niche. Are there 100 niches? must be close.

To sum up I am in 100% agreement with your free site model. Thanks for all your development and support.

zack2004 2006-09-12 06:29 PM

I've been reading (lurking) on this board and many others for many years. This board has real porn webmasters (GG, Javes (Jim), Cleo, Danger Dave, Tommy, Jay .............etc) that are willing to share what they know.
Yes, you might get FLAMMED but if you're not really an asshole and have thicker skin than then an octogenarian you'll hang in here and learn something.
If you can't take a little heat for what you learn (radio show, MML on the Bench, Etc), then move on!
This is the best adult webmaster board I have seen and will always read it even if I were banned. |thumb
