Ugh...yep, this is one nasty bitch!
Did just hear on the weather channel that it can only maintain cat 5 in ideal conditions. They're 'speculating' that it may weaken to a cat 4 before landfall. Sure hope it weakens for the sake of all those in the path. |
One thing I noticed the news channels are doing - they are including another storm in their "rankings" - Gilbert - that never hit the US - and it was the strongest ever recorded - so most news places are saying this is the 3rd strongest - but we kinda assume this is gonna hit the US so its really the 2nd strongest to ever hit - although it continues to strengthen and will be the most intense ever in "recorded" history.
Mr Yum - I sure hope youre correct - although even if it drops to a 3 - with its size it will effect an awful lot of people and destroy a few cities unfortunately |

As a 4...which is what he said was most likely, it'll be catastrophic :( IF it lands as a 5...this could make Katrina look like the little step sister :( |
I think the U.S. is feeling the effects of planetary Karma. I just hope that they a do a better job of making people safe for this one than they did for Katrina.

HOLY CRAP GUYS
Listen, I'm usually pretty cool, calm and collected but I'm right in the Houston area right now and I wasn't able to leave and won't be able to leave either (long story). The storm winds are predicted to be 100 plus where I am and I'm scared sh*tless! I went to town to get batteries for my Radio (D's) in case the electricity goes and they were sold out EVERYWHERE. Wal Mart, gas stations, Office Depot, you name it. The gas stations are closing the pumps and the ones that are open seem to be price gouging. At least I will have some food and water IF my house doesn't fall apart! Aggggh!
Is anyone else in the line of the hurricane? If so, could you leave, and if not, are you as scared as I am ? I could use some hugs 2 nite. I will probably be awake all night. ICQ me 20402228 |cry
I am going to be right here in the middle of it right here by Houston. I don't have any way to leave (long story) and it's supposed to be 100 plus mph winds according to the local news. I am totally stressed out. At least I have some water, ice, and food and a grill as long as my house doesn't fall apart, at least. I tried to find D batteries for the radio so I could hear what was going on but they were sold out EVERYWHERE today. Wal mart, home depot, lowe's, the dollar store, even the little gas stations ALL sold out. It sucks!
I have to board up the windows tommorrow. Wish us luck!!! |
I think this is gonna be bad for bush
if he does bad, everybody will say hes an idiot who cant learn from his mistakes if he does good they are gonna say it was because the storm hit his homestate texas and the blacks will say: see what happens when its white people that are in trouble |

To make the night go by faster plan out a route of what and where youre going to loot.
Im only half kidding, take care down there. |
Thanks DougE. I won't loot LOL. At least I have some food and water, no need for all that. I just hope no one loots me :-)
|
I thought they were going to shoot all the pornographers in Texas? ;-}
Good luck, save your batteries, and watch out. |
You know the irony in all this, Bill. Until June, I lived in Central Texas not far at all from Crawford (Bush's little ranch). We moved here to Houston and now I am thinking "WHY did we move?" :-). If Bush had his way, you're right, he'd probably use me for target practice
|
Rita is currently 175 MPH sustained winds :(
|
More importantly - most of the news channels havent picked up on this yet - the computer models have shifted considerably from yesterday morning - and puts the storm over warm water a lot longer and very little cooling water before the landfall which has shifted considerably eastward towards La.
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical...518_model.html warning - may be a popup on this site - usually is :) |
Currently wind gusts of 212 MPH :(
|
Good Luck Bro! I feel for ya.

My feelings on this hurricane are sooo conflicting. On one hand, I hate to wish it on someone else. But, I also don't want to be without power and internet for 1 or 2 weeks again. :( On the other hand, N.O. is already destroyed, and most people are gone. Why destroy a whole new city/state? Good luck to those in the area. |
Yeah it's aiming for Louisiana again they changed the path a lil in between texas and La now and possibly shifting further towards LA
|
We can't afford the war we started for profit.
We can't afford the cleanup from Katrina. We can't afford the pending cleanup of Rita. We can't afford to keep dealing with Halliburton misplacing billsions. Maybe we just can't afford Dubya. I hope everyone stays safe down there. |

This is really bad again :( It's funny how you see thousands being loaded up on buses and taken to safety. Where were those buses in NO????? I know bush fucked up but what about the people in charge in NO? Texas is taking care of their people as they should. I saw only the privilege getting on buses in NO. I think the government of NO has to feel like shit right now watching the poor and the old being loaded up in Texas. When they left their helpless to die. |angry|
Good luck to everyone in it's path I wish you the best. |
I feel really bad for those folks that are going to get hit with this but fuck am I happy that it missed where I live.
|
Cleo's avatar reminds me of a hurricane.
The best of luck to anyone who is in the path of that thing. |buddy

I can't find a version of the projection online, but my AOL Weather Bug actually has this sucker with the potential to hit Texas & THEN turning around & heading towards New Orleans after it hits land.
|
Nice |shocking|
Maybe after it wipes out Texas and Louisiana it could head back and finish off Florida too. |
