|thumb Congrats to both of you! I quit a year ago on April 1 and haven't looked back. I developed severe adult asthma and being in the hospital for two day stays several times got me motivated to go cold turkey. Once I started being able to breathe a bit better, I joined the gym and have actually managed to lose 10 lbs. I still "want" a cig once and a while but i just think about having to quit again and that squashes the urge. I also installed QuitKeeper. Plug in your numbers and it tells you how many dollars you've saved, how many days you've been smoke free, etc.. So far I've saved over 1200 dollars. I don't even want to think about how much I spent on them in the 20 years i smoked!

Hi Tart |waves|
And thanks for quitkeeper and more importantly, congrats on being smoke free!|thumb |
Yeh I can now smell smokers miles away too. Makes me crazy and also makes me realize just how much I stunk!

Normally i'm not a fan of bumping old threads, but this seems appropriate...

|thumb I've smoked for around 20 years. Fuck! 20 years! Fuck! Seems I'm on the verge of quitting every week these days, but a tiny bit of stress and my brain gives me the most insane excuses to have another cigarette and quit next week. etc etc. It's starting to take it's toll now, and I need a lifestyle change to kick the habit. I can do it. I hope. |banghead| |
Congrats Lisa!!
KG Gary - you can do it, you just have to want to. Today is day 56 for me. I was a smoker for 20 years, and was up to 2 packs per day. I had tried to quit several times, and never made it through the first day. I don't think I wanted to quit those times....was just trying because I was "supposed" to. This time, I really wanted to quit. Hard to do with a hubby still smoking, but I haven't even thought of picking it back up. |
Thanks for the congrats guys. Tho it most definitely was not easy in the beginning, I'm well at the point now where I rarely give smoking a thought. :)

Congrats Lisa and to anyone that endures that agony. I quit for two years before I picked it up again and during those two years the urge to smoke came about once a month and was so severe I would have killed for a cig. That intense urge only lasted a few seconds which was a blessing.

Congrats! Ppl can't do it after 2 or 3 years and've made it after16!!!
