Tickets are already booked, and I'm not sure what my options are as far as rebooking etc. I'll know more after I call Delta tomorrow morning.

It's only about 13 hours from here to Atlanta. I'd probably drive as far as Montgomery on Wed, then on into Atlanta on Thur morning.

If I do drive, and we still don't have power by next Sunday, then I won't be in any rush to return to Houston. I might go visit some friends in Daytona for a couple of days.

Well, good luck with everything...glad to hear that you came out of the storm Ok.

Since the topic of generators came up, for the future it might be worth considering going with a natural gas powered generator instead of a gasoline powered one.

I'm thinking about having one installed in my house to prevent losing power during the winter the way they did in Oklahoma last year. I already switched my wood buring fireplace to natural gas earlier this year. The total cost for the gas log and running the gas pipe was about a $1000, but it will be well worth it if the power goes out during a snow/ice storm.

I think the natural gas generators cost a couple thousand dollars, but the the local gas company is offering rebates, and the generators are permanently installed, so you end up with a permanent backup generator.

One of our long time neighbors just moved in June to a new house he had built in Pearland. One of the things he insisted on during the planning stages was a natural gas generator that would run the entire house and A/C. It kicks on automatically if the power is off for more than the alotted time. He's considering it money well spent right now.

I really wish natural gas was were I lived. It's about a mile away from me in the commercial area but not in the residential area where I'm located.

We have one. It runs 14 breakers and I do love watching TV on my big screen at night while none of the neighbors have power :D

I had an addition done to my house recently, another bedroom and bathroom. One of the things that I wanted was a gas generator...unfortunately, I hired contractors that were friends of my new wife. It took them almost two years and they never actually finished. I got pretty frustrated with them and we kinda "had it out". The natural gas generator to power my whole house ...I've got decent sized house that has 2 central units, the normal appliances, 2 window units (these are just extra because the whole house is covered by the central units), etc...would be close to $20k installed. I wasn't gonna let those bozos attempt that. I'm thinking that I will get one for next hurricane season....gee I hope I didn't just jinx us into another hurricane this year by saying that.

The problem with living where there is no natural gas is you are limited by fuel for the generator so you are stuck with a small one.

My rich neighbor up the street and a whole house generator running off of a 500 gallon underground propane tank. I think his generator was 22kwl and that would only run for three days off of his supply before running out of propane.

Off of my little 5500 watt unit I can run a room A/C, microwave, fridg, TVs, computers, hot water, pretty much everything except the oven and central A/C. I have to do thinks like turn off the room A/C when heating hot water but for the most part I'm pretty comfortable and living normally.

Finally got my power back today about 6:15pm. At least it wasn't hot outside this time. I'll see what I have for pics tomorrow and post a few for anyone that is interested in seeing a bunch of trees turned into worthless scrap.

Big thanks to my good friend FanTC for giving me live play by play of the Cowboys game via cell phone. |waves| Having some contact with the outside world is always nice. :)

No word from Lady Designer yet? Hope she is ok.

Glad to hear someone is getting power back. Centerpointe published three groups of zip codes with estimates for restoration of power.

Group 1 (36 zip codes) power restored to most customers by sometime Friday Sept. 19.

Group 2 (36 zip codes) power restored to most customers by sometime Monday Sept. 22.

Group 3 (124 zip codes) substantial damage in those areas so sometime beyond Monday.

I'm in Group 3. :( {heavy sigh}

At least I'll get a few days reprieve in Atlanta.

I'm not sure just exactly where LD is located, she could be in Group 2 or 3. I'm hoping she's just without power and didn't suffer any damage to the house.

ladydesigner 2008-09-19 08:23 AM

I just got power back on after almost 7 days! It has completely sucked being without electricity, internet, cell phone service, etc. Fortunately we where one of the luck ones with only minimal fence damage and damage to my satellite dishes. Seeing the destruction around me makes me so grateful my family and home survived this ordeal.

Toby, I'm in Missouri City (Sienna Plantation). This hurricane scared the life out of me! We've been staying with friends in Rosenburg that had power. I'm back home now and trying to catch up. Gotta go brave the grocery store today and try to replace the contents of my fridge.

Hi Lady Designer, glad to hear you and your family are ok and only had minor damage to your property. :)

Boners-r us, I didn't realize you were from Galveston. Anything I've seen on the news has not been pretty down there. :(

Hi Lady Designer.

Glad you made it out of the storm. The pictures on the news had me worried a bit.

Hope everything is ok down in Galveston Boners-r-us.
