After seeing the temps in Vegas this week I bought a cheap jacket for when I'm out there. It actually is hard to find anything warmer then a light sweater down here in the stores and I thought of waiting until I got out there and then I thought of my southern white ass freezing when I got off the plane and changed my mind. :D
For people with a laptop looking for WiFi access in Vegas I found this page. http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/brow...00283/2049997/ |
I agree Cleo, it looks like the night we get in one the 2nd it will have a high of 57 and a low of 27... OUCH! So we ordered some Company Fleece's.

Ya, that temperature shit is not cool. I'm leaving 20 degree weather here and was looking forward to tshirt weather there.

Thanks for the wi fi list.

ok, stupid question, but I have wireless setup here at home, do I need anything special to get access from the places on this list?
if I remeber right the venetian had high speed access for $15 a day... but i drank alot so I might be wrong. |
I can tell you the way T-mobile works since I have it.
Standard WiFi configure using DHCP. If you are not already a customer it will ask you your billing info when you try to access it and at that time you can join so instant access once you have given them a way to bill you. Since I'm a T-Mobile customer for my cell phone I get unlimited access for $20 a month. It is T1 speeds both download and upload. They don't really like to tell you this but they do have a SMTP server that you can use. It is Myemail.t-mobile.com. Also some laptops seem to need their proxy setup. My Powerbook doesn't seem to care if I put in proxy settings or not, works both ways. The proxy settings in case you need them are getmorespeed.voicestream.net port 8080 Here are all their plans http://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot/services_plans.htm Here in For Lauderdale you can find free open WiFi access points all over the city. I'm not sure if many of them mean to be open to everyone, but they are. LOL Seems a lot of places set up WiFi for their use, but never secure their network. :D I also have GPRS internet using my Bluetooth phone which gives me about 128K with a good cell signal. I'm a connected lady. :D |
see you guys there

I got hi-speed at our condo, hmm maybe I should charge people for internet..give em a couch and a place to connect.. hehehe.
We arrive on the 3rd around 10am , cannot wait to go. And for those of you coming from cold weather 57 degrees will feel goood, trust me. :) Andy |
I think I went to that business center last year and for 20 minutes it was like $25 or something stupid.
If you're in a hotel that's charging a fortune just call a local ISP and tell them you're in town for a few days and you want internet access. It's $20-25 for a week to one month and they'll give you a dialin number and bingo, you're set for the whole time your there. (Once you give them you cc info of course.) I did this after I saw the charge at the business center. |

I'll be PM'ing all of you in on the party with my cell number as soon as I finish reading the board (which might not be til tomorrow - LOL)
I'll also post on here as soon as John knows the room number & time on the 4th so if for some reason, you can't find us, look here :) |
And I wish you lots of fun :)

Another Wi-Fi tip... bring your laptop onto the show floor (or even NEAR the show floor) and you should be able to find more networks that you can shake a stick at. In Miami, I helped someone get their network going, and there was at least 20 wireless units active and WIDE OPEN.
Be careful though, technically this is trespassing! :-) As for "when to start the party" I would say not TOO early, give most people a chance to actually get into town and get settled a little bit. I am in at noonish, probably in the hotel area by 2. Maybe 9ish? |shake| Alex |
