Done with ICQ (forever)
Just wanted to let everyone know, don't look for me on icq ever again :) I am tired of having it running while working and having someone just saying "hi". No matter what you are doing, you have to stop and say "hi" back. You get a good stride going on work and you always get interrupted. No More...
Email only please :) |
Bold move. |bow|
|
Not that bold. I have been keeping away from it pretty good for about a year now. But, I have now uninstalled it and have no interest in getting it back.
|
ICQ hasn't been the most reliable means of communication lately.
But it's not alone... just sending an email to someone can sometimes be a lottery. |
Yeah - like your that busy :D
|
I know what you mean, Jim.
THe dilemma for me is that I need it in order to conduct business. I'd be stuck, especially at the moment, if I couldn't stay in instant contact with certain people. On the other hand, like you say, people who just want a chat can stop you working. I hate offending people or seeming rude, but I can't really enjoy the conversation because all the while I'm watching the clock. |
That's why I didn't add your last number :D

It takes a lot of work to keep this organization running like the well oiled machine it is :) And, I have been installing a few new scripts for new stuff. So, leave me alone...No ICQ |
Mail gets lost or eaten by spam filters so that would leave picking up the telephone which IMO is even more annoying.

Jim, I blew off ICQ and IM about a year ago, and honestly, i never looked back. I think about all the endless time spent answering useless messages... well... and we won't even talk about the spam, the stupid ads that won't load and lock your system, and such.
If someone really wants me, they can mail me or PM me here. |bananna| Alex |
That's what I say too Alex. Screw it :)
|
ICQ cocksuckers :)
|
ICQ Etiquette!
Short Visible List Ignore stupid messages Install it without ads Keep on working. :D DD |
ICQ Etiquette!
Just say no :) I will not be a slave to ICQ anymore |
When I happen to have my ICQ on I'm usually on 'invisible' (lots of people complained about this), but lately I handle my ICQ mostly the way I do with email: I open it once or twice a day to check for messages, and then I shut it down...
Half the messages are spam anyhow, and there are a only a handful of people in my list I really like to keep in contact with - and half of them are asleep when I'm online, or the other way round (so the messages are as delayed as emails are). And when I'm working I'm more offline than online anyhow (don't trust this always-on mentality). I also confess that I had a few chats on ICQ which were very helpful or informative, and I would have missed a few important things. Latest trend: you can't apply for submit PWDs anymore without supplying an ICQ number... Grrr! |
I don't use it much and have wondered if there was a setting to automatically show you as 'Away' or Offline when you log in.
I let it log in and see if there are any system messages then shut it down quickly. |
IF YOu"RE NOT USING TRILLIAN... well, god help you.
http://www.trillian.cc/ get it, use it, have fun. has all of icq's features and a lot more. Jim, i understand where you're coming from but if you ever go back, get trillian. ad free is the way to be ;) |

I use ICQ for conducting biz. There's nothing more convenient than an IM altho, it can be intrusive and annoying. I only use MSN and ICQ. The others I don't bother with.|knockout|
|
i remember saying that a few times to my self and look at me still 24/7 on that |angry|
|
Jim you had ICQ |jester|
