Would you buy content from a co that didn't release 2257 docs?

Ever since 6/23rd, I've been real careful to purchase only content that I was given full model releases and ID. I found a good deal on some content today, and when I asked the co about their policy on docs they said they:
Quote:

hold all the model id's and releases and provide custodian of records info. If a demand is made by the appropriate authorities, they will immediately turn over all copies of necessary id's and releases.
I'm pretty much decided I'm not going to buy it, but figured I'd throw the question out, what would everyone here do?

tickler 2005-10-27 07:21 PM

Well, I see several large sponsors using similar language, or providing protected DB access for the info. I am guessing that their lawyers are saying this puesdo third-party record keeping is OK.

Being in Canada, I'm also pretty much out of the DOJ reach anyways. Give me a photo ID with a DOB, and I'm happy. Probably within the Canadian privacy laws also.

Personally I WONT deal with companies that put profits over people's lives.

Preacher 2005-10-27 08:02 PM

What Would Jesus Do? |buddy|

I think Jesus would buy the content and just link to the custodian of record.

Chop Smith 2005-10-27 08:28 PM

No

Mr. Blue 2005-10-27 10:30 PM

Nope I wouldn't buy from a company that didn't supply the necessary documentation.

th3g4me 2005-10-27 10:56 PM

So if I buy it use it and get sent to prison will the content provider get me out? :)

Halfdeck 2005-10-27 11:01 PM

DOJ says webmasters must have the model's personal info. If I agreed with the DOJ or decided to comply with their idiotic rules, then I would demand the 2257 docs from my content provider.

koalat 2005-10-28 12:01 AM

Hell no! If a company didn't want to supply me with the appropriate docs I simply wouldn't do business with them. I'm in Canada, but I realize that my biggest market is in the U.S. and I gotta go with their rules.

lykos 2005-10-28 07:45 AM

If u need some content with full 2257 check out |spam| and hit me up on ICQ for super cheap deals ;)

Joneze 2005-10-28 09:42 AM

If it's the law then you must follow it.

Like it or not.

You will be the one behind bars (If your in the US) not them if you don't comply.

Surfn 2005-10-28 09:57 AM

I would prefer to link to their 2257. I don't want to be responsible for getting anyone stalked. :(

Nikki_Licks 2005-10-28 10:06 AM

We make sure we have all doc's or we don't purchase the content.
At the moment we are only using softcore images so we dont need to pass on the models personal information to another party.

It just makes me feel better having all of the doc's wether I need them or not.
I personally don't trust the government and I am going to be ready at any time :D

Phoenix 2005-10-28 10:46 AM

it depends on the company and waht country they are from.

I know of a few very reputable content producers who wont give out the info.

either because of the law in their country or for personal reasons.

If you follow the rules as much as possible i dont see this being an issue.

then again I'm all CDN now

Don't buy the content. We have explored all this over and over again with 3 different attorneys. Their basic interpretation of the regs is always the same. If you have models on your own website, you gotta have the docs on hand. Not linked. In house where they can be had at any time.

And by the way, what will you do if when you really need the docs, that content company gives you more excuses?

Use your money wisely. There are enough of us content providers out there that do give legitimate 2257 docs. :)

Even when the content providers give me all the doc's I turn them over to my attorneys because they are my custodians of records. Like I said in a previous post I do not want to be responsible for some stalker finding a models private info.

SirMoby 2005-10-28 02:08 PM

It's the law end of story.

Luckily I do business mostly with companies that know me well and some have asked that I sign an NDA. The bottom line is that if the company is US based and is selling the content while refusing to provide the docs then they are putting my family at risk and according to the DOJ comments, breaking the law themselves.

Useless 2005-10-28 04:16 PM

You know, in my extensive career in the adult industry, I've purchase something like, oh...I don't know, maybe 10-15 sets of content. (I stole the rest - ha!) As much as I disgree with the law and like to say things like "they'll never take me alive", I still know that you need to obey the law. Unless it's one of those state laws against oral sex. That law should be broken. Damn it, if I need my cock sucked, then I need my damn cock sucked - law or not.

The regulations aren't really that scary - it's the cocksuckers who are in charge of enforcing them that are scary. Really friggin' scary. And I don't mean "trick or treat" scary. I mean "bend over, I'm going to bury my fist in your ass and tickle your liver" scary.

Bottom line - if you want to protect your bottom, get the docs.

RedCherry 2005-10-28 05:47 PM

Yea I'm not touching the content. I downed I don't know how many sites because the content was bought from companies that never provided 2257 info and were either out of biz, or charging more than I paid for the sets to get the docs. :(

I have printed copies of everything in a file now, and plus in a database. Not going to take the risk with it.

I got burned for enough sets as well where I couldn't get the documentation for content I paid for...basically I'm not going through that again.

Even if 2257 got dramatically changed, I would still require all the documentation when I purchase...if I couldn't I just would move onto a content provider that would supply that information.

ecchi 2005-10-28 09:27 PM

It depends on where you live/work and what the content is. If you or your server are in the USA then you gotta have those docs. If you live outside the USA then you don't need the docs. However if you live and have your server outside the USA and you do teen content you should not use anything you do not have docs for because (1) you may need to prove your site is 18+ and not a peado site and (2) even more importantly, if the model looks about 18 and you don't see the docs how do you know she is not an old looking 14. Even if no one prosecutes you, can you live with the possibility that you are accidentally using that sort of material ?

I understand your feelings on this but where do you find content providers that refuse to supply the docs nowadays? I thought everyone supplied docs.

Also although I accept that content providers are putting the model's lives at risk by supplying the docs, I do feel that, at least in the case of teen content, my last point in the previous post is a good reason to supply them.

Very true. The content sure didn't look like teens, but I know what you mean. I've seen content shot by people I know, and know got legal docs, that I would have sworn the girls were under 18, scary using stuff like that.

Ok so here's a twist on this question... if the content provider is Canadian, does that mean s/he cant sell to wm's in the US? Because releasing that info would be against Canadian privacy laws?
