StatsRemote - Suggest new features & Try our software for free!

Firstly, for the people that haven't tried StatsRemote, here's a free pass:

http://www.statsremote.com/clients/
User: 7daysfree
Pass: free7days

Will be valid until February 28.

We'd also like to know what kind of new things you'd like to see. We plan to release a major update later this year and we have many things on our to-do list already.

Whether you try our software for the first time or you've been using StatsRemote for some time already, we'd like to hear your suggestions :)

Greenguy 2007-02-21 06:59 PM

I've never even seen it & the reason is others have told me these are not options:

1 - the ability to select which hits/clicks totals are reported (raw, unique, 1st page, 2nd page, join, etc)

2 - a breakdown of sites in the program as far as hits, sales, money, etc.

2a - the ability to personalize each sponsor's paysites by category, so that it's easy to see which niche site is doing well when you decide to build a niche site or rotate your banners

I'm sure I'll have more once I try it out (which will be when I get my PC back from Jersey)

We do it as follows: If a program provides raw and unique hits, we display them as raw and unique hits. If a program only provides unique hits we calculate the raw hits with a 1/1.2 ratio and the other way around. If a program provides 1st page and 2nd page uniques we only take the 1st page uniques and calculate the raw hits as mentioned above. I know this is not a perfect solution, especially because quite a few programs don't provide 1st page hits at all.

That's why we're thinking about adding a feature with which you can specify a percentage. This will be mainly for people who track their outgoing hits. If you then for example tracked 10,000 hits and the sponsor only counted 5,000 hits you could then just add '200%' to the stats properties of the program and StatsRemote would display 10,000 hits.

The problem is that as long as programs count hits differently there will never be a perfect solution.

The problem is that we always need to think about the load our software produces on the stats servers. If hundreds of people check the same stats all the time, we really need to be careful how many queries the software makes. In many cases StatsRemote would need to query the stats for each paysite separately, so if a program has for example 50 paysites, StatsRemote would need to make at least 50 queries for each day.

We already had quite a few cases when stats servers crashed and/or couldn't handle the load our members produced... CCBill, Epoch and others blocked the IP's of our users... therefore we always need to be really careful.

StatsRemote works on Vista. You need to turn off user account control in Vista though.

Yes your right. I should have added you had to alter the security features to get it to work properly and that you were also working on a solution that didn't require that to be done.

Hi J B.
I'm trying the 7 day pass and it's looking like it's going to be very useful indeed - thanks! I'm very impressed.

Two quick questions if I may..... ( I've read the manual but it's late here)

"Today" "Yesterday" - are these times based on my local time or each sponsor's local time. I'm in the UK and those timezones can be a pain. No big deal, I'm just curious.

Will the details I've already entered be lost if I upgrade? I don't fancy entering everything twice - I'd rather stick with a handful of sponsors for the test period.
:)

The default time zone of StatsRemote is PST, i.e. all tabs are based on PST. If you promote programs that use e.g. GMT you might want to display the 'Tomorrow' tab as well.

Nothing will be lost when you upgrade. You just change your login and password in the software and everything will be still there.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.
I'm hooked already and I'll be upgrading very soon.

Ok - explain this to me: why would anyone want to guess at hit totals? That one has me really confused |crazy|

It's not really your place to determine who counts what - you should just be reporting what the sponsor has in their admin & that's it. Allowing people to choose which totals they want is the only legit solution (as opposed to guessing at numbers that are not shown)

RevStats did it (and I assume AffTrack still does) I have no idea as far as the number of webmasters that were using RevStats or are using StatsRemote, but this seems like an option that really should be available.

I would love to see something within the program that could upload a daily report onto a domain of my choosing. (Password protected.)

When I go out of town and bring my laptop, I have no way to check my stats.

I would also like to be able to add advertisers mannually. These would not be getting datas from stats software but it advertisers who deal with me directly in one way or another.

For instance I sell traffic from my site. I could create an entry in Stats Remote for "Traffic Sales". Then, as I get people buying traffic for that month, I could just add the totals in myself. Money spent. Traffic sent, etc...
I could also use this for my Private Submit accounts I sell and anyone else that I do not use a stats program with.

That way I can get an overview of all my sales and not just those with stats software.

This is what many of our members want. The thing is that they want to get an idea of their total raw and unique hits and ratios. If we only displayed raw hits for some programs and only unqiue hits for other programs, the totals would be useless. The way it's set up now is of course not perfect but people get an idea of their totals.

It won't be possible to make everybody happy but I talked about this with many of our members and I know that most of them like the way it's set up now.

I don't know what RevStats did and they are not around anymore. All I can say is that from our experience it would be a nightmare if we read the stats of individual sites for many programs. We've already had a lot of problems with the current setup and we always need to tweak things because programs can't handle the load our members produce. Also, I don't want to risk that more companies start to block StatsRemote completely or block the IP's of our members. I rather offer a software that works and doesn't have all possible features than offer a software with all possible features and after a while only works for half the programs.

This is something we will consider.

This is on our to-do list as well. For now you could also use our custom stats feature which was released two months ago.

Unless I'm missing it, I'd really like to see sales ratios in the CCBill breakdown. I've got so many programs in there after all this time, it would really help to gauge things better. Typically I just sort the columns by $$ and do some quick math to check performance.

It's in there... Sales/Raw...

Which is why I suggested to let the webmaster pick which column/hits totals they wanted displayed.

Oh well, I'm sorry to say that these are 2 options that I'd need from a stats program, so I won't be using either :(

See, I compile my stats by hand every 3 months (PPS, then Revshare, then CCBill) You can see the public info here:
http://www.greenguysboard.com/greenguysstats.html

So the reason I'd like to use a stats program is to lessen the workload & since the totals for the program are with the individual site totals on the same page, that info is useless (especially when you throw in the click totals issue, because I know what totals I like & your totals would not necessarily match up with the ones I need)

Relevant posts have been moved/merged into this thread.

Well, I guess at this time StatsRemote won't be of much help for gathering the data for your public stats but in general it will save you time every day. You will notice once you try it :)

You assume that I look at stats every day :D Honestly, I look at 3 or 4 programs on a semi-daily basis & the rest get an in-depth review every 3 months.

So daily stats that may or may not match up with the numbers I'm looking for (as well as the fake numbers) would be of no use to me.

Can you add an option that sponsors pages open in Firefox, not just IE?

This is something we plan to do but I'm not sure yet if it will be possible. It's not only about opening the browser but mainly about automatic login from a different application. We will try our best :)

Oops, you're right. I just checked and I can sort by any other column except this one. We will try to fix this for next week's update.

I use StatsRemote and love it. I do not do the kind of calculating that Greenguy does but it is great for seeing what sales I am making each day and for throwing my weekly/monthly income into my Excel spreadsheet.

If I want to know what sites made me the sales at a sponsor then I go to their stats and take a peak. I like StatsRemote to see what I am making today and yesterday in general.
