What Can Change On A Listed Free Site?

Being a noob, I haven't done many sites yet. But it is true to say I can see a lot I could improve in the first half a dozen or so, even though they were listed with some of the bigger lists. Then there are the errors which don't become visible until later, even with an otherwise pleasing site.

Is it OK to change a site title? Or is that absolutely taboo?

Descriptions and other wording on the site?

Replace banner links with text links or vice-versa? (linked to the same place, of course)

Swap sponsor banners for more suitable ones? (ditto)

There is one free site which is already listed with every list which has checked it so far. I asked another list owner to look at some of my sites, including that one, to see if he'd let me submit to his and he pointed out a couple of self-made banners which could be mistaken for thumbs acting as links to the galleries. Hey, I only clicked on one instead of the gallery link myself today! Am I right in thinking it's OK to just go and put something like that right without telling anybody?

List owners, what have you seen done which is absolutely a no-no?

not recommended

plateman 2008-02-08 09:20 PM

dont change the content unless it matches the listed text anchor of the listings on LL.s

you can reword the title on the free site, but again it should match close to what is listed

you can reword text links and replace banners and such as long as it still follows the rules

just dont be a asshole and replace legit text links with blind ones or try any tricks, cause your gonna get caught

I would just rebuild another freesite and move on...look forward and improve with what you learn...If you're in it for the long haul, you're going to build a ton of freesites...and after you've done 200 sites, you're going to look back at your first and say, man, that one was a peice of shit, how did it ever get accepted? If it's accepted now, leave it alone and move on...however, I've made changes when I get feedback from LL owners and haven't had problems, but it didn't have anything to do with changing content just like blind links and stuff that I didn't realize were unacceptable when I made them...

Absolutely nothing.

I've done some minor formatting changes and fixed obvious errors like misspellings. Beyond that, I don't mess with it.

Hogwash!

Plateman summed it up. Stay within the rules and you can pretty much change anything except the title. I've swapped out a listed free sites content before. It's a pain in the balls to find content that will match the action, and possibly hair color, that has been described by the link lists that listed the site, but it can be done. Pay sites disappear and so do entire programs. You aren't expected to maintain a bunch of free sites that promote a dead or cheating sponsor.

I usually use my own content so I can switch sponsors whenever one pisses me off.

horney 2008-02-09 07:24 PM

Thanks, everyone. Some really helpful stuff in there. I'll start by getting that misleading which is the gallery which is the sponsor stuff sorted out, I think.

I prefer to encourage newbies to not change anything personally. If they think it is ok to change content, banners etc for a free site they may think it is ok to do for a tgp gallery which it most definitely isn't. For time spent fiddling around matching content etc you are far better off building another free site.

I didn't know you had an LL. Give me the URL so I can submit to you :)

I'll make a Rage Cash freesite :)

I usually don't try to change anything on a site that got listed. If it gets listed, good just start working on you next site. But like said early in this thread if your sponser goes under that would be a situation where you would need to change some things on the site.

But that's not what you said. You replied, "Absolutely nothing." That tells the newbie that they aren't allowed to change anything, which is bullshit from the standpoint of most link list owners. Be more clear in your responses or stick to copying threads from other boards.

RageCash-Ben 2008-02-16 10:55 PM

wow thanks for the insults

LeRoy 2008-02-16 11:01 PM

Sorry Greenie . You know me as happy go lucky smile all the time kind of guy.

Not many things get under my skin. I used to be a "Door to Door" Salesman. So I have pretty thick skin.

I just so happened to read his post before he edited it. It completely rubbed me the wrong way. Especially coming from a non-LL-owner and an affiliate manager.

Affiliate managers saying things like that to affiliates and getting paid for it amazes me.

Is that a way to build a long term relationship ??|badidea|

Hey Ben, Since I was the the only one who read it. You can post your apology to me here and we can move on. I'm easy

I don't know (nor can I tell) what was posted, but he obviously removed it within the 5 min he's alloted & he didn't remove it because he knew you (or anyone else) read it so you have to treat it as if it never happened.

Is this a rule or just common Etiquette (had to look that word up)

Ive seen a lot of post by d2222 and never have i seem him so mad. It looks like ben wrote something that might be a lil hard to treat as it never happened, Although sometimes it is best to look the other way.
Just my third person point of view.
