Thank You Yahoo!

Recently, Yahoo renames it's spider Slurp - excuses Google as an associate and comes up with it's own Keyword/Relevancy acidtest.

Well, what else - Google, Ask, Yahoo and many of the larger search engines are changing. MSN admits it's mistake in not taking the SE wars seriously, by not developing search processes to provide to it's users. But vows it will catch up to the others soon.

Well, no matter, some of us have seen increased traffic while others have seen decreased traffic. I for one say Thank You Yahoo - you sent me 8 new members today.

Yahooo!

Nick

spazlabz 2004-02-25 07:28 AM

Congrats on the 8 sales from SE traffic. Funny you should mention it. Not to long ago while on another board There was a brief discussion about SE traffic and what you need to do to get a good PR and one of the 'old timers' made a statement something along these lines
"You mean people actually STILL worry about SE traffic?"
That pretty much ended the conversation as he was trying to make anyone thinking about it look rediculous.
Now I will admit that I certainly do not spend hours and hours tweaking this or that to try and squeeze my PR up 1 point. I may throw in a half way descent meta and plant a couple of good keywords at the top of my pages now and then, but I certainly do not think I have the luxury of dismissing SE traffic out of hand. 8 new sales from SE traffic alone? Well HELL YEAH YAHOOOOOOOoooooo!
You know there are some people in this biz that cannot make that in a day off of TGP submits. I say keep doing what your doing |rock||yourock

Ah yes...

...the things we do for traffic and sales.

Like the old song the Things We Do For Love! lol

I agree spazlabz, it is not worth the effort to go through a painstaking task of revamping your site, just to get noticed by the search engines. And little things, that we do to bring in the traffic seems to suffice for some of us or even most of us.

Although I am not trying to walk in the rain nor the snow, a little strut down the SE lane, doesn't seem to hurt. Ideally though, it is becoming more of a benefit to get noticed by them. Especially with all the changes going on, with a lot of heavy duty SE players.

Linkster, yes, Yahoo owns Inktomi. And it did rename it's spider to "Yahoo! Slurp" and from what I am getting from many of their changes, after acquring Inktomi, they unexpectingly dropped Google search technology and come up with their own technology now known as YST or Yahoo Search Technology.

From one to two hits a day to over 40 or 50 I would say this is a hellueva change, I suspect most of you would agree. All this is to say is we are on the edge of change - is it good or bad for our industry? We can only say, with time, we will know.

And thanks for the congrats.

Nick

As always good luck!

CelticTiger 2004-02-25 12:56 PM

I'll second that.....made two sales off of Yahoo today. I lost nearly 60% my listings in Google after the Florida farce :( Whatever I had been doing for Google Yahoo loves and I have picked up some serious traffic since. Long may it last.

CelticTiger 2004-02-25 12:57 PM

BTW - Linkster - what code do you use to get the ARS button to show properly in your sig?

DangerDave 2004-02-25 04:01 PM

Umm Yahoo sucks the big one!

Search for "dangerdave"

- no dangerdave.com.au site/page exists
- no dangerdave.com site/page exists
- a listing in the top ten is for a page that has bee 403 for more thatn a year on an ozemail server!
- etc.....

Yeah Yahoo/Inktomi rocks.. NOT!

DD

teleblade 2004-02-25 05:08 PM

I can't find a link on yahoo the put my site in the list

yeah i can choose suggest a site but then it goes to a commercial add (299$)

thx in advance

tb

Linkster 2004-02-25 05:51 PM

DDave - we're all in the same boat - no link-o-rama, linkforsex or hoes either :( the results for the main keywords we all go for look like pre Google Yahoo hand indexing - the rest is a partial of the Inktomi database - every other domain I have is in there except the one main one - and its the same with GG - he's got all of his mirrored sites in there - but no sign of the real LOR

Celtic - you cant use the java link - have to make it into regular html

creamxtreme 2004-02-25 06:34 PM

Only for awhile!

DD - I would not judge anything on search engines right now. Things are very unstable. In fact, the good results "some of us" may be experiencing in Yahoo's case, is indeed a temporary one.

Linkster, you got a pretty good grip on things as far as Yahoo and Inktomi go, but the "key" ingredient you are missing is this:

Teleblade:

And the $299 outlay isn't even a guarantee to be listed.

Where some of us benefitted is with our relationship with Inktomi,
pre-yahoo. teleblade here's a back door url at least for now:

http://ink.ineedhits.com/

Many of us will benefit from the Yahoo/Inktomi relationship until April 15th, 2004. At which time we do not know what Yahoo will offer us. So for those of you who are benefitting from this, enjoy the ride while it lasts - for those of you who are not - don't sweat it, like spazlabz puts it, "You mean people actually STILL worry about SE traffic?"

Soon we may all have to pay to be included in these traffic vehicles.

Nick

I think the fact that I left out a few facts shouldnt make a difference - like I am in Inktomi, I do pay for inclusion through three different services, and the 299 figure is for non-adult sites - its 600 a year for adult sites - and I am in the directory at Yahoo
I am in the regular Inktomi results, as are the rest of these sites - Yahoo also has the rest of these sites in their directory and they have been there for quite some time - even pre-Google days
Im not sure why Yahoo has chosen to drop certain link lists from its web results, but it definitely has and has nothing to do with paid inclusion, free inclusion or directory standing. We are also in the other SE that Yahoo bought and still rank in the top for all of the major keywords, would love to see that SE's results get brought in to the mix as well

soggy 2004-02-25 11:48 PM

Yahoo has been good to me lately!

DangerDave 2004-02-26 03:58 AM

creamxtreme,

Believe it or not I have a fairly good grasp of what search engines do, maybe that's why I moderate the SE board here!

Possibly you could chose your words more carefully when posting... I didnt write an essay as I was just pointing out a fact that(as linkster said) is actually well known.

Do you wanna see how unstable I can get?

and you're posting links to "ineedfuckinghits"??

MatrixFan 2004-02-26 08:40 PM

Yahoo has been decent to me lately as well.

Thanks guys for sharing this with us and I am happy to hear of your favorable responses from Yahoo.

Mind blowing perception.

A lot of what I've seen you post has been copied from free SEO email newsletters.

creamxtreme 2004-02-27 10:56 AM

Urb, I don't Get SE Newsletters

Nor do I read them.

So if this is a phrase from a SE newsletter then maybe they copied off me.

And I highly doubt it is verbatim, (if your puny little brain knows what that means).

You know like I said all along here on this board - I thought it was a respectible board, so I joined. As the days roll on and the morons who reply to posts, much like yourself, only prove to me, that it is nothing more than a glorified GFY board.

Plagurism is against the law, if you feel I have committed this crime, report me to the proper authorities. The next time you slander me, you'll be discussing matters with my attorney.

NOTE: You or any one may have their opinions, and this is fine, but if you directly attack me or anyone else, it goes beyond opinion and becomes a matter of fact and truth. What you have stated here is not an opinion. You are directly claiming that I have been copying other people's material. A statement that supposes you know definitively that this is fact and it is not.

Now, I will deal with your differences of opinion, but I will not deal with your lies, not from you or anyone else in this industry or on this board. At present, I'll act like this is an act that was a mistake. But I guarantee you, if you carry it on, instead of you and me meeting some day in a nice setting, you will not like where we do meet.

My suggestion right now is you publicly apologise as you felt so freely to publicly lie about me. If not fine with me, but if you say another twisted word about me - watch and see what happens.

urb 2004-02-27 01:16 PM

You are correct, it's not verbatim, plagiarism rarely is (but at least I can spell it). As for legal action.... you can do whatever you wanna do about that.

My main problem is with your attitude towards people who you know very little about.

Do you understand the word condescending? Because that is how you are coming across on this board. You mentioned the word "morons" as a plural, so who else has replied to your posts on this board who you consider to be a moron?

My opinion is that you have very little respect for anyone; which is illustrated by your lack of manners towards the people who post here.

You are posting as if you are a seasoned professional search engine expert, correcting people, who you do not know, about a subject which you appear to know very little about.

Why do I think you know very little about search engines?

Well your link list which has been online since May 18th 2003 (and has appeared on the side of your truck) has only a handful of backward links and you are not even in the top 1,000,000 sites with regard to traffic

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...reamxtreme.com

This in itself is not really a big issue, I understand that it's hard to kickstart a link list. BUT it becomes an issue when you try to hand out search engine advice to people who have superior knowledge and many years in this field.

Yeah - I'll have to agree. The Yahoo SERPs suck ass - regardless of weather you are getting more traffic out of them or not.

My main site, which is my best one, is nowhere to be found. A bunch of my little, crappy free sites - a lot of them have top rankings.

Internet users will tire of shitty yahoo resurts and will go back to google with time.

I'll address the first issue in this fashion, I do not see me coming in and calling people all sorts of idiots and trashing them cause they have an opinion about a subject.

However, it has been the mo (modus operandi) of several of the members of this board. I come in to discuss clean Clean subjects. Not go back and forth over who is or isn't an ASSHOLE, (IMO).

People have their beliefs and their own way of discussing matters, it is not my duty to tell them how stupid they are nor would I ever engage in such an act.

When I started online I started with Newsoffice.net - SEO. Now let me see what was the phrase, hmmmm. Oh yea, Advertising, Marketing and SE Concepts. Here, I uploaded a page:

http://www.creamxtreme.com/search_engines.html

And formerly housed this site on hypermart but they failed to send me any billing info and screwed me out of my account - I lost tons of info. But SE's are changing and it wasn't worth going to find another server that quickly - then I was also involved heavily in this industry and felt it was time to change what my news would be about.

So please spare me the BS about who has superior knowledge than whom. Personaly I do not nor would I ever blow smoke out of my ass, like some people. Incidentally, newsoffice was started in 2000 March and will expire in about 2 weeks.

I used to write the book on SE's and much research was done prior to writing anything anywhere. I ran (owned) a news company and I knew what the legal ramifications were with it. And writing about Google, Yahoo, some little mom and pop shop or whomever, you did not want to make no mistakes. They would be costly.

XXXjay sorry to hear about your's and other's misfortune with Yahoo. I noticed your replies on another thread. A little note:

I am happy with your traffic, so please, please don't ban me. And I would hope this shake out shit would cease, so we can all begin to get a better picture of where we stand with them.

This way we can all go back to SEOing again with some sort of end/goal in mind.

Nick

P.S. I held the #1 spot on Extreme Porn Links for the longest time, with Google. The asshole that I am, I went and tried something with .shtml instead of html and now they frown upon me. Guess this is one I missed in grade school. LOL! Seems they can not cache the inclusive stuff. |sad|

But no matter how much you know about SE's there is always something new to learn.

P.S. Incidentally, urb, another thing, CreamXtreme and Newsoffice are just a couple of sites I own. I can not really say how many I do own but I'd say it is more than 5 and I own some of the best names there is to own in the adult industry. Which I am very pleased with. Thank you!

So tell us about some of the best names there is to own in the adult industry then. Or did hypermart eat them too?
