What reason were you given for getting rejected? LOR doesn't allow free host unless you are a trusted submitter. |
Well the email states that the hosting is questionable....probably related the private whois on the domain
|
What happens at the end of the year and the hosting goes away - Just curious.
I'm not opposed to listing such sites as long as I get a warm fuzzy that the webmaster and sites will be around for a while and no one will be doing nasty shit on the domains I list. A lot of it has to do with your reputation - so stick around, get to know us and pull the private who-is on the domain - after all, what are you hiding? |
It would be in your best interest to get a proper hosting plan, which are extremely dirt cheap to start with, and build, build, build from there.
Remember, this is a business just like any other business and there will be start up costs. These costs are so minimal right now that there really is no reason to not have your own hosting plan. |
I think I saw in the rejection thread that it was due to Private "WhoIs". Which is not accepted unless you have 'Trusted Submitter' status. It's a simple fix really. I don't understand why you keep going on and on about it.

Woah! I started in this biz by signing up to AWS back in 2001. I see their website hasn't changed at all.

Many of the photos that look like static thumbs on your index and main pages are larger than they appear in your pages, so you're using HTML to force them to fit. Don't do that. And plateman was correct, your file sizes are out of control on your full-size pics. There's no reason for 800x600 photos to be weighing near 400kb each. They don't even look all that good. What are you using to crop your photos, a rusty hatchet? |
Good advice in here :)
Try & get your money back, tell them to read this thread as proof that they did not give you want you paid for. The get your own hosting, build some free sites & go from there. |
I think I should start a blog, starting at what I learned at AWS and then what I really learned since then. But would anyone read it? Hmmmm.

As I mentioned before I have modified that process which now includes the use of photoshop to create thumbs. As far as the enormous file sizes go, that's the way the content came from the sponsor...? Should I worry about reducing these heavy file sizes? Quote:
It sounds like some webmasters will take it but for the most part if your a new guy in the biz trying to get your AWS hosted Freesite listed at greenguy your SOL... |
Hosting is pretty cheap nowadays as are domain names. The next time you see a colo-cation banner on this board, click it and sign up for a low-end virtual package and buy yourself a domain name. Go with the flow.

1. most server plans have a bandwidth limit before you pay for overages or they shut you off. tgp galleries eat a lot. 2. some surfers are still on dialup 3. you want to show bite size samples to get interest, not the entire meal. I resize the images to be 800 on the long side, which gives a file size between 50k-100k Quote:

You are starting out. buy a cheap .info for $0.99 from godaddy or whoever is running a promotion.
Get the cheapest hosting plan from hostgator (or even the next one up). They are under $10/month and for someone starting out they offer enough. Then, once you are doing well you can always add additional domains and move to better hosting. But for someone new this is all that is needed. If you have the extra $$$, buy a decent .com, as it is not that much more expensive. |
Just to follow up what Sven said. If you can't afford $10 for a domain and $10 for hosting a month, this might not be the career or hobby for you.

Check with colo-cation for hosting. Their virtual plans I believe are very cheap from what I understand. No need to get a dedicated plan at first. You definitely want to reduce pic size like HowlingWulf stated and since you have photoshop it's easy. |
One thing very valuable here -- make sure you have control over your hosting and domain. Right now, you don't. Some of us will trust you, some will not. Most of the people responding here have been well-established link list owners, and quite a few still build sites on their own. Do be careful on domain names -- some link lists will not take .info. Also, when shopping for a host, be sure that they take adult. The Resources tab here has a good list, and Co-Location is very highly recommended. A good host is worth every cent, and they don't get much better than Co-Location.
You have a good start, and most do not get their first sites listed on Greenguy. It will happen, believe me. |
And where else would you get help like this ?
You should be thankful for all those replies really. Don't hesitate just change for paid hosting and unchange private whois. |
Yes, thank you all for your help and comments!
