IE8
Microsoft keeps pushing IE8 on me so I suppose I will have to download it eventually. Are any of you using this already and have you had any problems with it? I'm not confident I will be able to fix it if anything goes wrong, and I have too much to do business wise to have my computer offline right now.

I love it, it has a lot of featurs the others have had for years and even does some of them better
Plus it has some features other browsers don't even have yet If you use IE at all anyways it is worth it just for the fact that each tab runs in it's own memory space (about time they finally joined the bandwagon on that one) |
I think IE8 is the best browser M$ has produced so far.
and it's the best for the average surfer. but I still get more out of FireFox as a webmaster |
It has to be better than the pig firefox has become. After about an hour of intense work, it slows down to a crawl.

Did you just download it and it installed over IE7..or did you have to delete and install clean? I'm really worried about screwing things up LOL
|
IE8 upgrades so you don't even lose your favorites or settings
|
I suggest using a standards compliant such as FireFox, Chrome, Opera, or Safari

if you Do choose to use IE8 , at least use the "Compatibility view" for all sites to all sites so the sites that are not compatible to IE8 still work for you
|
Ok..one more question..how is IE8 different from IE7? Does it have any great new features or is it just a rehash of IE7 with a couple of cool things added that I possibly will never use anyway?
|
my puter automaticly downloaded ie8, but i have the choise to install it or not, and i didnt install it, i always use firefox, strange is if i check all the traffic on my domains i see ie still as number one and firefox as number 3, yes 3, number 2 sais unknown, i know strange, but thats what it say, still since i change to firefox my puter never got fucked up anymore......stu<---finding a piece of wood to knock on 3 times (heay dutch thing), so i only use firefox:)

Yeah the first thing I did when I installed Windows 7 on my office PC was to download Firefox. It's been getting the job done for me for years so I have no reason to change anything.
I honestly can't say I tried IE8, but if it made steps past IE7 than it can't be that bad of a browser. I'm sure it still gets the job done well for standard users. |
The most annoying thing for me with IE8 was when you right click to view source you can't edit the html. I found a fix for that and it's in this: thread

Hey sweetie pie how ya doing?
I did the upgrade thing a few weeks ago. I didn't notice any major changes, except it shuffled my favorites folder a little bit....took me half a day to get all links back where I wanted them. I guess I really should clean that folder out some day. |

Well now I just read this...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07...ploit_in_wild/ So I'm going on Firefox until Microsoft comes out with a fix. You know what? I think I'm going to start playing the lottery..maybe I'll win and retire and never have to use Microsoft again!! |

Of course I read the article. I don't have IE8 and I am using still using XP..so it is an issue for me. |
The thing is, it makes no sense to use a less secure version of ie ;)
If you are going to use IE...you are better off with the most secure version IE8 :) |

Other than what I mentioned I can't tell a difference, although I don't use a lot of Windows features
