JMB Software Contact

Heya

Does anyone have any JMB Software Contact? Like, to the original creator ?

Asking as I took the trouble to update to php7 and wanted his permission to add a few features and/or somehow recoup at least a bit if anyone else is interested

As far as I know, he got out & just left everything wide open & free for everyone to do whatever they wanted.

I was looking at some old JMB PHP code the other day.

As Greenguy says, most of the JMBsoft stuff appears to have been released under the Apache License, Version 2.0 in 2011 (The Apache License is a permissive free software license so you can pretty much do what you want with the code).

Latest version can be grabbed from:

JMBsoft github or Unofficial JMB support forum

I guess you could fork the jmbsoft repo on github and make your php7 updates available to the adult webmaster community! |loony|

hincapie 2020-03-11 11:19 AM

Yes, i figured the license actually seemingly allows any use...so I guess thats no worry.

I have upgraded the TGPX script to run on php7 so far - have it running nicely on 1 upgraded domain so far on php7.4 (just a couple of minor things to fix like the bulk gallery scanner atm) - but no big issues remaining.

So should be able to repeat the procedure and do php7.4 compatible versions of TubeX and LinklistX shortly...and throw them out to the world - or well, just upgrade my own at least :)

hincapie 2020-03-11 11:20 AM

And yes, intending to github them once properly tested of course :)

jollyhumper 2020-03-11 12:21 PM

Thanks for this, Hincapie!!!
I hope you will share your efforts with, at least, us ;-)

Yes of course - if they get polished off with no errors ill make a github with the install files ...the upgrade process is clunky right now, id need to do a guide or some kind of automation though....

If any of us can be of assistance to you, by all means let us know. I am more than happy to help with a test server and fair reporting back. Heck, I can even help with a guide if needed as I have done several TGPx installs already, including the patches.

Much appreciated - its pure loss to spend time on such things so any help is welcome :D I hope to have a beta we can play with ready tomorrow .... then you can all throw stones & molotovs when every server around explodes :D

Pagan 2020-03-11 07:23 PM

I had to move my Tubes/WP sites to a different account with Php7 on it. i do have space for testing there. If we do it right, I could set it up so we can all play.

hincapie 2020-03-11 07:57 PM

Yes - i have just run a test ...

All files are upgraded and the first site is running smooth - with 1 bug in broken link scanner to be fixed.

But. When i then packed it up and followed my own instructions for upgrading a site i 500-errored the whole thing. I am currently checking to find out why :) As soon as i have a version that runs - i will throw it your way and we can all play (you can have this one - but i dont like it when i know theres a fatal flaw to be found still)

(the basic method has been to reverse engineer....let the old build run on php7.4 - go through the error logs, fix the issues 1 by 1 - and onwards ...almost there :) )

hincapie 2020-03-12 12:11 PM

Ok - here it is: https://www.adultlist.com/adult-webmasters/

I put it up with instructions for upgrades ... new installs should (i hope) be straightforward, upgrading an install takes a bit of fiddling

I cant find anymore errors, but there might well be some - so please dont break any cashcows :D

Pagan 2020-03-12 01:08 PM

Outstanding. I can play with it 2 ways, I believe and let you know where the bugs are. I do have one smaller install running by itself, and I will play with that one on the upgrade. The other I will up as a new install and let those who are interested have a look around. Fighting a common cold right now, so it will be tomorrow..

Sounds excellent Pagan :)

Im sure together we can find any remaining bugs and iron them out ... if you have error.logs, bug details etc youre very welcome to mail direct webmaster@filmlatex.com

....and if people have been missing some new feature for a decade, shouting is good as the code is fresh in mind so its easier to get off the old fat ass and do it :)

jollyhumper 2020-03-12 04:01 PM

Great!

I'm not able to test it now, but thanks for your efforts!
Will for sure look into this, next week or so

One big thing -- mixed galleries. We have choices of Picture or Movies. What about the combinations? I fixed mine with a custom field.

I certainly appreciate seeing this script updated. You have no idea how much this means to so many of us.

Thats a good idea. Like 12 pics + 4 vids ... will have to investigate how :)

Pagan 2020-03-13 10:10 AM

Brace yourselves.... it was the cleanest, easiest updated I have *EVER* done. I thought for sure I would break stuff, but nope. Easy upgrade. I am now using Php 7.4.

A couple of comments -- On an upgrade, you may want to tell folks not to install the utilities directory or examples directory. The script will tell you to remove the utilities if you install it. Nothing breaks, it is just an extra step.

Also, in the includes directory, if you have your access-list.php set up, you may wish to update it before you overwrite it. Again, it doesn't break anything, but it adds an extra step.

I set this server up to allow submits (it normally doesn't). The patch to allow submitters to select and crop a thumbnail doesn't work. You can use the option to have a preview automatically created, but most don't use this.

So far, that is the only issue I have found. I have added a gallery, built all with new, added a category, and everything seems smooth. If you want/need access, please let me know.

You have really made my year, Hincapie. I have been hoping for this for so long. Deeply grateful that someone has done such a bangup job.

hincapie 2020-03-13 10:41 AM

Ohhh thats magnificent news (I thought for sure youŽd run into whatever id overlooked too haha)

Ill update the instructions as youre right - everyone is gonna upload utilities, then delete.

IŽd like to get access and see it in action & maybe lend me a gallery too to submit, i want to see what happens with preview cropping (could be script but could also be a php module missing)

hincapie 2020-03-13 11:02 AM

Ehhh doh! My own installs obviously have the same bug - im already testing there :D (id still like to see yours but nothing urgent)

Pagan 2020-03-13 11:29 AM

Email sent with credentials.

hincapie 2020-03-13 12:06 PM

I sent you something naughty back |banana|

Pagan 2020-03-13 12:30 PM

Yes, I saw that, and it was truly naughty.

Now, I have naughty news for you -- BOTH servers are updated. Very very smooth, too.
