A bitter farewell to an over moderated board.

This will be the last post I have on this board in addition to the last time I look at this board. Your moderators are too eager to flex their power and pound square pegs into round holes. "Hmmm, this guy is asking about peoples opinion on programs, that's a programming/scripting question". And it's not the first time i've seen this here.

It is truly a shame as I think the opinions offered here are geniune and hold merit but since your moderators like to hide them off in obscure categories that only 10% of the visitors go to, it's hard as hell to get that opinion out of anyone. That so irritating.

So with that, I'm off. I know that I have very few posts, but I've been hovering since the inception of the site.

Too bad there is no middle of the road on this. GFY is like high school and gg&j is like boot camp.

You called DD a Nazi in your thread asking about server software. :(

I put your thread asking about server software in the closest thing that the board has to a software board.

General Business is for talking about business, sponsor, processors, things like that.

It wasn't that anyone was out to get you or anything, just putting things where they will get the best response. I say you asking about "Plesk or Cpanel" and to be honest I had no idea what that was until I read your thread. If I don't then chances are others wouldn't as well. By putting it in software at least others would know that you are asking about software.

It is like a link list, everything goes in the correct niche so that people can find what they are looking for.

Sorry you feel this way.

I visit a bunch of message boards and I dont go nit-picking through every discussion category. The majority of the time, I just go to the category with the most posts and threads because thats where the action is, so I know what that guy is saying. On the other hand, moderators can do whatever they want. Also keep in mind, the moderators of this board try to keep all the categories well rounded.

RawAlex 2003-09-21 09:30 PM

Y'know what? This board was created to help people find the info they are looking for. It is a discussion board (and there is a general chit chat area), but it is also to help us all do business. If you are not interested in, say, programming, why should there be a bunch of programming threads on the main board?

Just as importantly, if there are too many threads in the main area, it is very likely that stuff will get lost in the mix, or attract non-related and non-informative posts that will actually make it impossible to get real information on a subject.

I have already seen on this board where a thread stays dormant for a week or two, and is re-activated when new information comes up on the subject. If all threads were on the main message area, that wouldn't happen - and then valid info would become history and disappear quickly.

This board is run maybe slightly differently from other boards, and you know what? I LIKE IT THAT WAY. I feel more informed and feel that I get more business done here than any other board I go to online at this point.

IMHO, of course! :-)

Exactly, try to spread out the threads into the correct category so that posts can get found. Otherwise you end up with threads about our toys and crazy stuff drowning out the business threads and business threads drowning out help with getting listed and so on and so on.

Personally I find it sad when I go to a board and see no posts other then in one category. I end up having to wad through a bunch of posts that I'm not interested in just to try to find something.

I spend a lot of time on non adult computer boards in order to keep up on things in my other business. It seems like the well moderated ones are also the most helpfull.

Well it is run by a bunch of link list owners, lets see… We spend all day categorizing stuff, lol.

And that's just the stuff you can SEE!
I know, cuz my desk is exactly the same way ;)

NotThatKevin 2003-09-22 12:02 AM

I agree that questions regarding Plesk and Cpanel should be moved to the software section :)

So DD which one of the three stooges are you in that pic ;)

urb 2003-09-22 07:31 AM

Jason,

I know you're reading this, because it's very hard to keep away from a fire you just lit.

I just wanna say three things.....

1) DangerDave is not a Nazi.

2) Mankind has been filing and categorising stuff for centuries. It makes sense not to pile everything up in one place.

3) Don't get upset about it..... life is too fuckin' short. :)

Ramster 2003-09-22 08:26 AM

Like Urb said, you cannot pile everything in one place. If you do you might miss something.

GFY I like to visit to see if there's anything going on as there are a lot of webmasters that go there. But with so many useless threads started chances are I'll miss a thread that would have been of use to me.

And honestly, if I don't promote TGP for example at all then why would I even go to that area of the board or why would I come to a board that only had one category that was overrun with TGP related threads all the time for example. I'd stop coming here in that case. Categorizing is da bomb!

amadman 2003-09-22 08:30 AM

I don't no how many others do but I use the view new posts option. So I see every post made no matter what category it is put in.

Greenguy 2003-09-22 09:00 AM

Jason - sorry that the board & it's set up is not for you - have a nice life :)

Just a little note - if I was on when you posted, it would have gotten moved as well. Hell, you knew it was gonna be moved with your comments to DangerDave, so please, don't act like this is a surprise to you.

I'm also glad that a few people posted that the board format is good for them - I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it :D

Ditto. I don't miss any new posts, no matter the category.
Plus, it saves time jumping from one to the other.

Same with me...I read everything posted here. As for moving threads to the proper forum, this is done for everyone. People that know the answer to a question about Programming and Scripting, hang out over there. And, people that know about Search Engines, hang out there. We have hand picked our moderators for that very reason.

IMHO, Jason needs a little cheese with that whine..

I did not read the whole thread, but as far as I know, this board is not bad at all. I've seen WAY worse.

Surfn 2003-09-22 12:05 PM

Damn |sad| does this mean I'm the only person here who can't read? I use MS text to speech program. You all sound the same to me. |jester| |ufo|

Jason - In my opinion, this is the only board really worth posting on. The quality of the people who post here is unmatched on any other board.

Shit, I remember not liking Danger Dave in the past - I think a lot of people do. At least he knows his shit, unlike all of the newbies or people that think they know everything you'll see about everywhere else...

GFY is the only other one worth mentioning, and only because of it's traffic.

In closing...

SIEG HIEL - HILE THE FUROR!
Kidding - kidding ok?

LOL

JenC 2003-09-22 04:16 PM

For what it's worth.......I've posted in the "programming/scripting" thread (before the board crashed, so you won't find my post there anymore) and I got all the sufficient answers I needed to my question. Just because it wasn't getting 100 page views doesn't mean I didn't get answers. I was very satisfied. |shake|

P.S. I love Danger Dave. It's guys like him that make this world more interesting. ;) |smooch|
