Any banner rotating script which works with SP2?
I bet I'm not the only one relying on JavaScript on my pages...
do you know of any alternative scripts for banner and ad text rotation which actually are working with IE and SP2, and with Netscape, Opera, Modzilla, etc.? That would be a good start...but there's more to fix. SP2 sux BIG TIME! |
I am using phpadsnew and have no problems viewing or displaying ads to sp2 users

What I didn't read (cause I couldn't find): · can you edit the alt text for banners? · and more importantly: can you ad text to the banner? like I have text above and below the banners which is rotated together with the banners (= it matches each individual banner). Thanks again! |
The answer to your questions, George, is yes. Phpadsnew is a little complex to get set up, but once you do it's powerful as hell.
I set up all my ads as "html", which is one of the options on the program. You can just create the ad in your favorite html editor (or hand code it) and then paste it into phpadsnew. Then I use a remote javascript call to insert the ad wherever I want it, like so You can see how it works here http://adult-sex-pictures.net/ Hit reload a few times and watch the ad above the enter button. There are a few drawbacks to doing it this way, and I don't have a clue how it works with sp2, but it's the best compromise I could come up with. |
All the html ads over at Cleo's Links is from PhpAdsNew.
Does the banner show up on this page in the new and improved Windoze? http://cleos-porn-links.com/adult-links/ |
And yes you can do all those things with just the banner loaded into phpadsnew, you can put text below, (unfortunately not above), alt tags, mouseover, and more! You can have your ads show up differently each day, by where the traffic is coming from, by what language they use on the computer, anything, it's amazing!

YES! Your ads are still there... "the new and improved Windoze" - not even simple things like JavaScript:top.close(); work anymore! |angry| IDIOTS @ MS! As if I don't have enough to do w/o Microsoft making my life a missery... edit: forgot to thank those generous souls for mentioning PhpAdsNew |roses

I don't remember seeing you asking. I may have missed the thread as I don't read all the threads. Post the URL and I'll look at it. :) |

And I put the same question in your submission form "comments" - since you have listed it I guess it wasn't too bad - CHEERS! |
Yeah I never clicked on your site link in that thread and I wasn't the one that reviewed your site that you submitted.
We do our reviews using a really crappy version of IE5. That was the last version of IE ever made for the Mac and is a real piece of crap which is why we use it. It doesn't have console blocking, doesn't display bmp files, chokes on bad code real easy, basically it is great for doing reviews because of this. I surf using Safari and your site in that thread looks fine in Safari as I just looked at it. What the hell is the blue string sticking out of her twat? |
Lol @ Cleo :)
I do the same i.e. use IE5 for mac os when reviewing.. I think it is the only thing this version is good for. |pcsucks

|roses| thanks for that |
Anyone with SP2 on board and using Mozilla FireFox notice anything when you type in a bad url ???
Like this one ... http//nowhere |
urb, yeah, that is a trick of firefox. If you type anything in the address bar, it returns the #1 listing for that term from google (or perhaps others if you change to another SE).
It does make #1 listings a little more powerful, although firefox is still a small % of surfers. Alex |
As a side note, I should point out that javascript is basically end user code. The end user's computer has to process it. There is no way to assure that (a) they have java active, and (b) that there version of java they have is really working, and (c) that they don't have some sort of blilcking program that filters out all the useful tags.
Therefore, as a banner delivery system, javascript is a VERY bad way to go. It is very likely that a large percentage of your banners will be blocked. Alex |
Another answer for George -
You can avoid using Javascript with PhpAdsNew by using Local Invocation (which uses PHP calls and not javascript). If you want to do this on multiple domains on a dedicated server it gets a little more involved, but you can still use Local Invocation to avoid Javascript. To reaffirm one of the other messages, yeah, you can place text anywhere you want to in an ad using the HTML ad setup in PhpAdsNew. Cheers Fringe |
I didn't think that you could use html ads with Local Invocation.
|
I believe you can use any type of ad in local invocation
|
I'm using SP2 and, as far as I can tell, all of my old javascripts and banner rotators are still working just fine. Could the issue some people seem to be having be some particular setting in IE? Has anyone been in contact with Microsoft about this?
|
Well if Microsoft doesn't get your ad rotators, then Symantec will.
Norton Internet Security as default blocks anything containing the characters "ads" and that's just the tip of the iceberg. So if it sees "phpadsnew" in a url, all will become invisible to the surfer. I keep telling people this and nobody listens... but I guess that Symantec's market share is nothing to worry about?!?! |zzzzzzzzz |

Just a thought :) |

In other words not using "phpadsnew" as a directory, as a lot of people still do. Including the site in your profile. |waves| http://www.jilltopia.com/phpadsnew/adimage.php?filename=blowjobfun_468x60.gif&contenttype=gif |

You can see here http://www.urbx.com/example/phpadsnew1.jpg that you are still using "phpadsnew" and "adimage" And when you visit your site with Norton fully enabled http://www.urbx.com/example/phpadsnew2.jpg Your banners are gone. So after seeing that, I don't understand why you tried to knock me in your post. |

Do you really have any clue what Urb's phpadsnew experience is?... I dont, but it sounds like you should book in for a lesson on that script from him rather than offering them to him.. judging from your posts at least. |jester
I am sorry for sounding offensive, if that's what happened I apologize.
This isn't about attacking a program or a person, I understand your statement and it brings to light that method for improving the potential of the program, by editing the used url, for image and click location I will make this change a.s.a.p. Thanks for bringing this to light for me, I honestly appreciate your help! Opti, I don't know you, but why jump on me? I thought Urb handled it well, he/she obviously showed the weakness and showed a valid pic so that I am able to fix it, why are you attacking me as a person/webmaster? Stupidity? I was trying to make a point, not be offensive, I don't understand what your post added to the discussion? |
The more I read your post, the more offended I became.
Opti was just pointing out how bad your post actually sounded. You made me out to be some kind of idiot, implying that I didn't know what I was talking about. I was offering advice which I have researched myself. Not something that I saw someone else post... Whatever I post on these boards is based on my real experience of testing stuff to find holes and problems. Fix your own site with that problem before trying to give me advice about fixing sites with the same problem that you said you knew about. Everybody posts things they wish they hadn't now and then, so lets just forget this ever happened. |shake
The reason my post was seemingly agressive is I found your post previously about symantec and no one being worried insulting, it sounded like you were better than everyone, at least to me....I agree we should just let this part of the thread end. Thank you again for pointing that out I do appreciate it, and will see if I have time to change it! :)
My opinion on getting around ad blockers is that anyone installing an ad blocker is most likely not going to want to click a typical banner, they installed it for a reason, it is the same reasoning with pop ups why try and get around pop up blockers when the people blocking them obviously know enough to not want them, just my opinion. |
Symantec is a market leader and thousands of PCs sold every month ship with Norton.
Norton Internet Security has ad blocking enabled as standard. Most surfers are not even aware of ad blocking and are only concerned about their general security. These surfers will probably never look at, or adjust their Norton settings. |
Never knew that it was allowed to be turned on....but that sounds right in the states! It may be something I will have to migrate and alter my installation to adjust, to, mainly I have gone to text and multi format ads lately, but it seems to be good to try and cover this using phpadsnew, will take some time but may be worth it, I will also see if MMM the next evolution of phpadsnew may be working on covering this as well.
Urb thanks for the heads up and the info. |

I couldn't see any useful point in your post either, btw. It sounded like nothing more than a backhanded way of saying "Shutup Urb, You sound like you know shit, Now everyone listen to me say the same irrelevant thing I posted previously again". I actually think my post added more to the discussion than yours.. At the very least mine didn't have any incorrect information in it! You posted it because " it sounded like you were better than everyone, at least to me...." And you felt the need to tell all that he really is actually stupid and you are better than him, to help out? "No offense" but people have suggested you might be a know-it-all, a dumbass or a rude cocksucker quite a few times before haven't they? be honest now... ;-) (dont cry again btw.. the no offense rule was in action so I can say that without it counting ok?) hehe |
First before anything, I never intended to insult Urb or to demean him/her or his/her posts.
Urb pointed out several mistakes in my posts and I thanked him for the correction. If you would like to point out these "people" I would appreciate them telling me I am a "know it all" or any of the other names you said in person. I know enough to get by, to make a good living, and to do it full time, sometimes I post on something that I do know about. I have used phpadsnew for several years, it has worked very well for me, so when someone asked about ad rotators I posted. It was my opinion, from what I understood the program was bypassing most ad-blockers by simply changing the name of the script directory and the delivery method in the program settings, Urb showed me that this was not the case, and my site was not showing the picture banners. As to the name calling that is completely up to you, I don't know you, and have never heard of you, therefore I have no valid opinion on you. So until such time that I do, have a good day and a successful life. :) |
