This is why this board can loose traffic...

There is 15 different menus to choose from before posting a new thread and then the problem is every damn new thread i post gets moved to a lame category which has NO traffic...what good is my thread ( about the photo shoot and cash drawings of up to $500 daily at InterNext ) if it wont get any eyeballs to it??? Why does it seems like the General Business Knowledge section is mostly people who run this board or seems like favorism? Do i sense board politics here?

Look where my thread was moved to? Who judges this? I mean come on! There are hardly any replies or views....what a waste of posting!

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...p?s=&forumid=6

And then there is this thread still in the General Business Knowledge section??? Sorry TotemCash, didnt mean to pic your thread at all, just needed to show an example. It offers something as we do...oh so i didnt ask the question " What do you think? "...is that it?

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...threadid=14642

I just think you guys should get rid of SO MANY categories and not have business or board politics here.

MrMaryLou 2004-12-27 08:06 AM

Raffi, TotemCash is a board sponsor and you are not its real simple :)

Thats the exact answer you did NOT want to give...not good enough...i am still a potential advertiser, a good affiliate program, and most importantly....a person who posts on many board as well as this one and should still be treated equally....thats exactly what i meant by Board Politics...SHOULD NOT EXIST...Its bad business....wont help a board grow...especially from potential new advertisers like myself....i am not just a surfer who posts....discouraging

Jim 2004-12-27 09:10 AM

Raffi
Most of the people that come here, come here because of the way we handle threads. You are right, we may lose a lot of announcements because of our strict rules but we can live with that. Give your post some time. You posted it on the day after Christmas and today is the first day back to work. You will get more views.

Jim 2004-12-27 09:12 AM

Oh yeah...MML is 100% correct. Advertising has it's privileges. You would not believe how many times we hear, I might want to advertise or...send me your rates, just to get an announcement on the main forum.

Greenguy 2004-12-27 09:15 AM

Raffi - we're not like every other board out there & we're proud of that.

We don't put up with spam of any kind. Those that are paid advertisers & those that contribute to the board helping others can post whatever they want whenever they want, but other than that, we move post to the proper forums.

We have many different categories because we realize that some people don't want to read every little post on subjects & topics that don't apply to them. Just like a Link List or TGP, we categorize things to make everyone happy :)

The Chit Chat forum is a perfect example - some people don't want to shoot the shit about non-business stuff, so by having that forum, they don't have to sift thru 100 posts to find the 10 that interest them.

And we have no surfers that post - ZERO! We are all webmasters here.

The "potential advertiser" thing doesn't fly either because we have advertisers that have paid for banners & newsletters & posting privlages - is it fair to them to let you post for free? Do people advertise your program & sites for free hoping that you'd let them become an affiliate? Come on :)

If your sole purpose in posting on this board is to promote your program, then this board is NOT for you.

Ramster 2004-12-27 10:17 AM

I gotta disagree.

I think people do read threads in the other section you were in. Noone posts because there is nothing to post. I read it and made note to stop by your booth.

Shit, you're giving away $500 bucks a day. I'll be there for a draw, why not.

And if they left all the "things" offered by sponsors in the main forum then something business related (not a sponsor promotion) would end up on a buried page honestly.

Useless 2004-12-27 11:34 AM

One of the reasons this became my favorite board is the fact that everything is prefiltered. I love all of different sections and read damned near everything. I even click on that damned GABBO section once in a while eventhough there are zero posts.

amadman 2004-12-27 04:18 PM

I use the view new posts option and see everything no matter what category it is in.

not sure about that bro....the most replies i have seen in this category is 9 and the most views is about 200....thats fine...i dont want to upset anyone...i am the type who usually posts about business....i really dont have too much time to post about a favorite pic of my cat or some bs topic like most people do in GFY...i thought my post was business related...oh well...thanks

RawAlex 2004-12-28 03:59 AM

Raffi, it's about business, yes, but it's about promotion of your products. There is an area for that. Your post really wasn't something that was going to get a ton of replies, just something that was going to get read.

Those people interested appear to have read it.

You would probably do much better if you actually talked TO people instead of AT them. Be part of the community, say Hi, talk a little bit, help some people out with comments or whatever, and slip your message right in there with it.

SirMoby 2004-12-28 08:11 AM

This is a funny thread since I read the spam post in the "Products and/or Services offered" section before I even saw this thread. I read that section almost every day just like I read this one.

When I read the post there I thought it was professional and it gained my respect. Then I saw this post and I just don't get it. I don't spend time at boards that allow random spam but I spend time here and I do read the spam section of this board daily.

part 1 - you seem to only post about your business or when it's beneficial to your company & that's not what were all about here. We're a community that helps each other & shoots the shit - people come here to learn as well as lend a hand.

Part 2 - part of your 1st post complained that we had too many categories on the board, but you admit that you don't the "bull shit" threads - this is the reason we categorized everything - so that people don't have to sift thru the threads that probably don't concern them.

We rarely leave a link to the thread once it's moved - you will see that from time to time because the poster is new & might not have known it was posted in the wrong forum or it was a judgment call that we thought might require it to be moved. The usual spam posts are moved with no redirect left behind (hell, I moved 2 off this forum this morning - you see them referenced anyplace?)

First, let me say that you have an exceedingly angry avatar. Why so mad? Smile at the camera.

Secondly, I've been amazed at how many people in this biz who will go beyond one's expectations to help a fellow webmaster out. If there weren't so many helpful people put there, this board would would be just like GFY - just a bunch of balking fools asking other fools if they'd 'hit' some overtly sexy naked wench. I've been helped out by plenty of people who have absolutely nothing to gain by helping me.

GreenGuy I think he was looking for a free trial...

Greenguy 2004-12-29 10:34 AM

Raffi - have we converted you yet? :D

Wizzo 2004-12-29 03:19 PM

I have to agree with Raffi to some degree, I've tried more than a few times to join in the mix here...

Yet the large number of rules and regs makes it tough to feel relaxed in posting anything... Like is this reply in the right spot now or will it be moved?

My sig which is the same on almost every other board, a button with 2 short lines of 1pt. text removed and I don't know why and I looked at the rules and can still not sure?? But which forum do I ask about in?

To each their own, and I have no problem with you guys being unique in the way you run things... I would just suggest that giving people a little leaway around here, might go a long way in adding to the mix... Which I think was Raffi's point...

Hope to see All in Vegas...|rasta|

Greenguy 2004-12-29 04:07 PM

Hi Wizzo |waves|

You'll rarely get in trouble for replying to a thread - there are times when we feel people reply in an off topic spammy sort of way - like this one:
http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...threadid=14765
They weren't asking for other AVS programs, yet the 1st 2 replies were "Try our AVS!" type posts & that's not called for.

Sig files rules are 80 characters of text OR a 120x60 image & 40 characters of text. No bold, no colors, no larger font size - so if you broke one of those rules, I'm probably the one that edited it.

That help? :)

Wizzo 2004-12-29 05:23 PM

This was my sig, I guess I didn't go to the trouble of counting the characters, but it didn't seem out of line... but more of a petty annoyance for me to fix...

The button below and the text:
Converts KICK ASS on any Traffic,
1000's of Hosted Galleries & Clips!

Again, I not trying to start shit, because there's quite a few people around here I like and have known for many years... |shake|

Greenguy 2004-12-29 06:13 PM

I'm not trying to start shit either, but I count 59 & the limit is 40 - I have let a couple of 41 & 42 ones slide, but we have rules & we like them to be followed.

I couldnt have said it any better....especially " Yet the large number of rules and regs makes it tough to feel relaxed in posting anything..."

this maybe just my opinion again but i think if boards are completely loose and free for all to be comfortable to post without hesitating or worried about how to reply to posts, etc...it would be a much more successfull board...and maybe just my opinion...i still like you guys here...

Greenguy 2004-12-30 10:10 AM

There are plenty of "free for all" type boards out there. When Jim & I started this up, we wanted to stay away from that & I think we're doing a bang-up job of it :)

Out 2 main rules are don't spam & no excessive sig ads - these 2 rules keep away most of the "posting for the sake of posting" people that only want their sig file shown AND it keeps away the people that only want to better themselves or their program by spamming.

There are a few that "don't get it" and thats fine - I'm the 1st to admit that GFY has it's place & it's wonderful at what it does. But that's not what we want over here. Juast like with traffic, quantity does not mean quality.

I'll take 200 quality posters over 2000 big sig file spammer talking about how often their dog eats every day :D

Cheerful1 2004-12-30 10:22 AM

Ok where is that bus? I am going to toss myself under it and post in a topic i have no real vested interest in except as a devoted board reader.
Like a lot of folks here I don't post much but I read all.
I can read all because spam goes where spam belongs and threads are sorted and rules adhered to. I dont have to load a 20k sig from each poster to read an interesting thread.
Maybe fewer rules would make it more comfortable for some but much less more comfortable for many :)
If GG&J start bending rules for a "few" at what point does it end? Will we have to load those huge sigs and sort through the spam to get to what interests us?
Ok ok now... where did I put that bus?

Jim 2004-12-30 10:28 AM

Thanks Cheerful
And, I will admit, if we let this just be a free for all, we would get a lot more posts. But, the new posts would be useless. We would get posts like my favorites, "How often do you shit?', "I just took a shit" and the best of all time..."Would you hit it?" We really don't want those. Thus, the main reason we don't post pictures.

This business runs at breakneck speed. And, I envy people that have time to post and read such nonsense.

Greenguy 2004-12-30 10:48 AM

Bus? What bus? |bus|

Ok, one last little diddy from the opinion gallery. The rules that Wizzo and Raffi(sorry to name names fellas) find troublesome are exactly why this board produces high quality banner views. Who posts here the most? The owners of the big traffic sites and their humble devotees. With the exception of the Chit Chat section, everything here is all about conducting business and making more money. So when someone decides to become a member here at GreenGuy & Jim's Porn Warehouse, they do so with business of adult webmastering on their mind. You'd have to be a fool to not see that 100 page views at GG&J is more valuable than 1,000 at GFY. Hell, I'm a fool and I get it.

Since I'm already beating this horse allow me to explain it yet another way. GG&J is to GFY as a Clean TGP with no trading script is to a 500,000 per day cicrcle jerk TGP. With very few exceptions, clean TGPs don't get anywhere near the traffic of circle jerks. But any gallery submitter will tell you that he/she will make much more money from a gallery at a clean TGP with 30,000 per day than a gallery at a circle jerk with loads more traffic. Why? Because the traffic is so much better. The surfers at a clean tgp are there for the right reason and return because they know that they get what they want without all of the bull shit. That's GG&J baby! Yeah![insert Austin Powers accent] It's all high quality true webmaster traffic. People come for the right reasons, not to impress the ravenous hordes with their lack of intellect and well endowed sig file.

This horse is dead and bludgeoned , yet here I go again. :D Two of my favorite sponsors use primarily vid caps for their content. I'd love to be able to use their content to promote them, but I can't due to the rules at the bigger link lists. Now, did the link list owners sit down one day and say, 'hey - lets fuck these guys over and not let them submit sites with vid caps as content.' Yes, that is exactly what they did. Oh, no... wait. That's not it at all. They got tired of seeing crap content and realized that the surfers must be getting tired of it too. What happens when surfers don't like what they see? They go elsewhere, and we all know that that is not good. So, yet another example of how rules are established to keep traffic quality high. Higher traffic quality translates directly into a greater ROI for the advertiser.

If sponsors want to promote their programs, they should be looking at places like this, where the pages are clean, fast loading, and most importantly, not competing with that big ass banner up top that I see every time I load a new thread.

Useless 2004-12-30 11:16 AM

To each their very own. I cannot comprehend juicylinks and his 50k posts on GFY. All he has done is make money for lensman, by pumping up the activity on the board, which in theory supports higher ad rates.

If anything, sponsors should be pissed off by the numbers... it isn't exactly a business environment.
