Not much sleep again

Jesus, I went on a good long stretch with no problems sleeping. And yet, here I am at 4 AM with almost no sleep at all.

Are you guys the same? Or is it just Greenie and myself?

Bill 2005-02-11 04:21 AM

I generally sleep okay, thankfully, but I'm always up and generally working at 4am.

I got in the habit of working late at night years ago, and I still prefer it. More peaceful, fewer distractions.

What keeps you up? Too much coffee?

I thought this post was going to be about your furnace.

Jim 2005-02-11 04:33 AM

I just think tonight was a fluke. I was awakened at 2:30 and that was it...I am up :)

docholly 2005-02-11 04:34 AM

I have terrible sleeping patterns. I usually get up at 3am or so PST..and go to bed around 8-9pm. For the last few days i've been going to bed at 6p/7pm and getting up at 130-2am. Now today (thurs) i left my computer at 3pm.. and got back on at 11..somewhere in there i had about 4 hours of totally interrupted sleep.

and multitasking..uploading content while surfing GG&J!! |thumb

Fonz 2005-02-11 04:34 AM

I'm awake now so I guess I'm a work-a-holic too :D

No serious, I could sleep for 10 hours every night.

ngb1959 2005-02-11 04:41 AM

I have trouble sleeping too. When I sleep through the night, it's a fluke. I can't sleep with my husband, he snores too much, but he can't fall asleep unless I'm in bed with him. So, I get in bed, wait about 4 minutes for him to fall asleep and then I get up and work on the computer or go downstairs and sleep on the couch. I could sleep on another bed, but it's in the room where the computer is, and I know I'll just stay on the computer and not sleep.

Ugh, he fell asleep on the couch tonight and I just heard him get up. Now I've got to go do the routine.

Uhhhhh - and you would know when Greenie is waking up how? |waves|

I know - he doesnt push back |assfuck|

swedguy 2005-02-11 07:42 AM

My body is just not on a 24h cycle. It's more on a 30h+ cycle, 20-24h awake - 10h sleep.
I had a period where I was actually normal and went up at 8-9AM... those were the days ;)

Cleo 2005-02-11 07:44 AM

I have very strange sleep habits too.

There is no reason for me to be up this early. In fact it is not good at all since I have a late night shoot to do tonight so I'm going to be tired by then.

MrMaryLou 2005-02-11 07:45 AM

Some weeks I get up at 5am some 4am some 9am its crazy for me as well LOL

Mr. Blue 2005-02-11 09:02 AM

I've had a life-long case of insomnia. I usually sleep 3 to 4 hours tops a night. Yesterday I went to bed, woke up, and started my day...too bad it was only after 40 minutes sleep and I didn't realize it until I was already awake and then it was pointless trying to go back to sleep.

Greenguy 2005-02-11 09:02 AM

I've been sleeping pretty decent the last few weeks, but for sometimes - especially on the weekends - I find myself awake at 4 or 5 for no reason, so I work :D

cd34 2005-02-11 09:07 AM

I haven't slept well in years. I made a rule -- if I lie awake in bed for more than 15-30 minutes without going back to sleep, I get up and work until I am tired.

Recently I've been working Bankers Hours (10-3) and sleep due to sheer exhaustion. All I want is a few good nights of sleep. :)

Torn Rose 2005-02-11 09:16 AM

Linkster you beat me to it... that was just too easy.

I slept for 10 hours last night, and I took a cat nap yesterday, I just have been feeling totally exhausted since we got back from NY so we went to bed early last night.

I've been up for 15 mins and already I feel better compared to what I have, so hopefully whatever the issue was I took care of it. I’m sick of feeling like I have had no sleep for weeks when I am getting 6-7 hours a night like my norm.

Maybe I just miss cuddling with DrB??????

Useless 2005-02-11 09:17 AM

I love sleep and under the right conditions I will sleep endlessly. But I have been working late into the night and going to bed around 2-3am. The problem is that I have to get up and finish getting the kids ready for school at around 7:30. That leaves me tired all day long. You'd think after being tired all day long that I would go to bed at a normal hour, but no. Just as the wife is going to bed, I'm suddenly energized and ready to work until 2am again.

MrMaryLou 2005-02-11 09:23 AM

Anyone try naps? They seem to help me some when I can grab one.

cd34 2005-02-11 09:32 AM

in college I learned how to sleep anytime, anyplace anywhere.

There are times when I will take a nap in the afternoon (it is rare and I have to be extremely exhausted), but, most of my clients work during normal business hours and the middle of the day is pretty darn difficult to sleep when the phone keeps ringing. :)

cockNballs 2005-02-11 09:48 AM

"in college I learned how to sleep anytime, anyplace anywhere."

I learned how to do that when I worked 3rd shift for about 2 years, naps on breaks, lunch, on fork trucks etc....

Greenguy 2005-02-11 10:07 AM

I take a nice 10-15 minute nap every day - it's quite refreshing :)

Only place I can nap is on a train. Get me on the L.I.R. and I'm asleep 1 minute later. Trains, the ultimate cure for my insomnia |thumb

Or when I drink a lot, but I don't think passing out counts as sleep or does it?

cd34 2005-02-11 10:22 AM

In college we had access to a bunch of cool biofeedback stuff. I had trained myself to go into deep sleep almost instantly. 15 minutes was like 2 hours of sleep. Allowed me to work those 30 hour stretches so I could sign my paychecks over to the college. :)

Knight 2005-02-11 10:42 AM

Hi folks,

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but. Looking at the sleep patterns of some of you I think a few need to be checked for sleep apnea. It is a pretty simple sleep study to see if one has it. But I can tell you that to ignore it can be fatal and if it doesn't kill you (RIP Reggie White) then it will fuck up your life (I am living proof of that). It really is some serious shit and I for one am spreading the word.

cd34 2005-02-11 11:02 AM

I'm sure I don't have it -- my wife was just diagnosed with it.

My sleep is interrupted, but due to external factors. :)

Hey cd34 I'm sorry to hear that but am also happy for her. Has she started with the machine at home and all? Heres hoping she does well.

Your comments about bio-feedback were interesting. I spent some time at a pain controll clinic where I learned bio, it is a life saver if practiced faithfully.

Jim 2005-02-11 12:16 PM

Chris, That sucks about your lovely wife. Give her my best please.

For me...I just think it is time to give up the folly of thinking I can sleep in a waterbed. That's what was here and we decided to try it.

She only had the 2nd test for calibration last weekend. On the first test, they weren't looking for it -- she was there for a different issue.

We gave up waterbeds years ago. You can't imagine how much better we sleep. We have a 'Stearns and Foster' we call a life-sucking mattress. Five minutes on the thing and you are out cold for 2 hours. :)

Our bed is fine, but I've been tempted to look at those memory-foam mattresses. We got one of those pillows and it eliminated quite a bit of neck/shouder pain. I think you need a 2nd mortgage for one of those mattresses though. I never see anyone in the store, and they have quite a bit of rent overhead. They don't hire young kids, so, they've got to be charging a fortune to be able to keep that place open.

Jim 2005-02-11 01:03 PM

We gave them up to Chris...back in the early 90s. But, my mother loved waterbeds and bought the best she could find about 2 years ago. We gave our regular nice bed to my son when we moved.

Greenguy 2005-02-11 01:21 PM

I'm heading for my nap as soon as I finish reading the board :)

I guess you haven't found anyone to take them off your hands yet! Have you tried ebay or amazon dot com?

I heard youngens are going for $20 - $30 each! |bananna|

Jim 2005-02-11 02:59 PM

So, I am looking at new beds. I notice Memory Foam and I know what that is but what the hell is European Latex and Latex Elegance? Sounds like some sheets that I have but I know it's not that :)

cd34 2005-02-11 03:04 PM

I think some Euro Dom in latex comes over and whips your ass to sleep.

Sleep now dammit! Here comes the whip.

I've been threatening to sell them since day one. But the wife says it's a package deal. If they go, she goes. So, if anyone is looking for a petite 32yo blonde with two PITA kids, I'm taking bids.:D (Actually, the oldest isn't included. She's from a different mom. She said she was on the pill...)

They'd probably be better at it than me and then I'd get even less sleep trying to keep up with their productivity.

How the heck do you do it?

I've tried naps and they never seem to last for less than 3-4 hours.

Greenguy 2005-02-12 07:51 AM

I woke up at 6 today for some unknown reason |banghead|

MrMaryLou 2005-02-12 10:08 AM

Man I slept till 9 this morning and feel like a truck hit me :( Too much sleep LOL
