Skippy, How long have you been working online?

What I am asking is, what year was it when you first actually made some money from the adult business online?

Cleo 2005-03-16 07:21 AM

It was in the nineties, like around 97 or 98 but I didn't start making decent money until the 21st century.

swedguy 2005-03-16 07:44 AM

I started mid 2000, so I think it was end of 2000. At the same time I moved back to Sweden, so that whole time was just a big mess :)

Greenguy 2005-03-16 08:24 AM

Money? 1996

Decent money? 1997

Enough to do this full time? 1998 :D

Fonz 2005-03-16 08:55 AM

Beer money: 1997
Over 2k a month: 1997-1998
Back to beer money: 1999-2000-2001-2002-2003
Back to a decent amount of $$$: 2004-2005

amadman 2005-03-16 12:12 PM

If I remember right my first check was from a sexkey signup in 1999.

If you are talking about real money then my lazy has can't vote.

shelmal 2005-03-16 12:50 PM

Well started in 2000 but barely got by untill 2003. Thats when things really took off for me.

SinSational 2005-03-16 02:38 PM

2001, but it wasn't much.

cd34 2005-03-16 05:07 PM

I guess it depends. Directly earned money from advertising sites, Dec 2004.

Earning money through working in/with the adult industry doing programming/hosting, since 96...

LindaMight 2005-03-16 05:11 PM

I started a small free site in early 1999, it kept crashing due to "word of mouth". I was a paysite by the end of 1999. Money came pouring in, and I thought I was going to be a millionaire.....well ... I'm not, but I am making more money than I would have ever dreamed possible by having a stand alone website.

LowryBigwood 2005-03-16 05:24 PM

Who makes money? I thought this was all about fun!~ :)

That's a pretty neat thing you got going there, I can see your posts going through the roof with this neat little thing. :D

Good job guys!

Bill 2005-03-16 05:24 PM

I lost about 3k$ in 1997.

Made about $800 in 98.

Fulltime in 99.

Fulltime since.

I got my last cheque a couple of days ago, from Silvercash. I can recomend them highly.
Notice that I don't have a webmaster referall. Oh shit, I must get myself more organised.

Pagan 2005-03-16 05:33 PM

heheh.. 1998 here. I think my first check was from FlashCash, and so was my most recent. I was also a phone sex operator with a website back then, so I made a nice little bundle. Heheh.. and as a laugh, I sent my better customers original short stories. I was doing 18-20 hour days easily back then. I have always made a little bit each year - nothing to write home about, though. In 1998, it was a couple hundred. In 1999, I probably made about 5K on the side.

My world changed radically in 1998.. I moved to Denver, telecom waved its magic finger in front of me, and I was soon making more in 2 weeks working fewer hours than I could with the porn business.

Presmar 2005-03-16 05:46 PM

I only made 7 g's last year which was my first full year in adult. Can I get a loan?...:)

Barron 2005-03-16 05:52 PM

I bought my first domain in 2001. Got my first check from Maxcash.

After a couple of failed projects offline, I came back adult fulltime a year ago.

Torn Rose 2005-03-16 05:58 PM

2000.....

WWCDonMike 2005-03-16 06:06 PM

amber438 2005-03-16 06:07 PM

Actually, I started in 1997 working with an old friend on a website of her's while I was studying network engineering. My own money came in 98.

LOL, for those who don't know, the title of this thread is dynamicly created using "logged_in_user's_username, How long have you been working online?".

Ms Naughty 2005-03-16 06:13 PM

2000 for me
I can still remember getting that first check and dancing around feeling clever, but I'm buggered if I can remember who or where it came from.

Sexyelisha 2005-03-16 06:13 PM

Year 2000 but it was peanuts..

I took a year out for my university finals (stupid mistake!!) and closed all my sites down in 2002. So i had to start from scratch again :(

Joe 2005-03-16 06:18 PM

I started in mid-1998 and made it in the 5-figure range with SE and galleries each month all the way through early 2000. Went into mainstream, and I'm now back into adult-- Trying to balance the two.

Panky 2005-03-16 06:20 PM

Will the real Panky please stand up, please stand up, please stand up... :D

I got started in late 2001. I made few bucks part time while working my career in dentistry. Life changed. I quit my career to work online full time and never looked back.

LOL...that's funny as hell!

weirdsteve 2005-03-16 06:35 PM

For a second there I thought I was popular. Nice way to make a thread ;)
2001 I started, mid 2002 started making money.

Panky 2005-03-16 06:36 PM

LOL! Now that is freakin' brilliant! :D I love it! :D

DaveTheViking 2005-03-16 06:46 PM

I haven't made a frakking cent yet, but seeing my user ID in the subject of a thread on a forum I've never viewed until today nearly made me pee in my sweatpants. So that made getting into the biz worth it. A nice script and a clever idea.

EDIT to say I started last week.

EDIT once again to say it was more like two weeks and a few days ago, and I've lost my sense of time since then.

I'm not so good with dates so had to check on my records. The first check was in 95 or 94. I started as a unix admin hooking an Adult BBS in those days to the new thing the internet. Wasn't much back then. Got lot of knowledge about irc, newsgroups and bit about websites. Also really liked the professionalism of the business. Wasn't my conception of an adult business. There was no broadband connections for regular users only dialup. I worked with a T1 line with the unix box in the office.

Then Company got bought and moved up north. They didn't need me so I sat on the money I made for a year. Built a website and used adultcheck to make money. Made a couple of hundred dollars back then. Continued with it and told a friend about it. We partnered together and bought a colocation site but he lost insterest a year later. I went back to virtual hosting and Freehosting. So I think I'm up to 1997 working with adult freehosts making up to 1000/month. A year or 2 later is when I made some bad decissions and fucked up. Learned from my mistake and Now I'm crawling my way back up again. Sigh. Not in a big rush. Too afraid of making bad mistakes again.

CybrFire 2005-03-16 07:47 PM

Damn, and here I thaught I was special when I saw "CybrFire, how long have you..."

LOL, I don't feel so special now.

I started doing this in 2003 early in the year and didn't make a dime until six months later. After fucking up several times and correcting my mistakes, then I started to see $$ coming in from all the effort.

I plan on sticking around for along time to come in this business though |thumb

WWCDonMike 2005-03-16 07:49 PM

LOL! That's too funny. Good job, guys. What a great way to get people to post. Sneaky, but effective. I salute you. |headbang|

selena 2005-03-16 08:49 PM

Linkster 2005-03-16 10:21 PM

I guess I got my first money around 1985 - running BBS's and charging for memberships to D/L porn. Started the changeover to the internet in 1994 before the browsers were "universal" by selling email accounts on my BBS and then by selling access to the internet through my BBS using graphical interfaces that changed just about every day.

Took from 1996-1999 off to revamp everything, sold off my BBS and converted to just doing web pages - then finally figured out the Linklist game was where I wanted to be around 2000.
Its been a great ride and just keeps getting better - its amazing the changes from the little CD player and tapes/optical disks that I used to archive files to the changes today :)

Boy that brings back some fond memories :)

tortus32 2005-03-16 10:41 PM

I just started in this biz about 3 months ago, and so far about $70.

scorpio 2005-03-16 10:45 PM

Started in 99 with some bogus sites filled with blind links from HPIC sponsors.
Made my first $600 in 1 week then.
So i've been in the porn business for 6 years now.

chilihost 2005-03-16 11:14 PM

OK...I am joining all those that were freaked out by this title and how there were 2 pages of people answering how long I have been working online. LOL!!!

I have been doing techie support for all kinds of sites since 1991. My first gig was supporting the tax office systems, does that count as making money off the biggest whore out there? HAHAHAHA!!!

cheers,
Luke
