Did I mention that my land is getting logged as we speak?

Yep, finally my land is getting logged. Before looking at all the land the logger told me he would give me a lowball figure of $30k. I saw him yesterday and asked how it was looking and he said, "you have some really nice Cherry trees". The figure was a definate lowball. :) The way it works is the buyer shows up once/week with their trucks and gives us a price. So, after tomorrow, I should have a good idea how much money my $15k land will bring me. :)

Tree killer! Tree killer!

Glad to hear that you're making some money off of those flood plains out there. Now you'll be able to afford a user-friendly digital camera, or maybe a Polaroid and a scanner. :D

And still no pics…

Greenguy 2005-05-25 10:42 AM

Why are you clear cutting your land?

Clear Cutting???
Trees are like any other garden. If they are not thinned out once in a while, they die. I would never clear cut anything.

Well, here is the deal...
As of yesterday, I have made $4k and they have just about finished 1 acre. Only 62 acres left to go :) Quick math tells me that is about $248k worth of wood. Oooops, 7 of those acres are lawn so that would be $220k worth of wood within the next 2 or 3 months :) Now that was a smart $15k investment when I first bought the land :)

maybe ile come chain myself to one of your trees, make a weekend out of it :)

juggernaut 2005-06-04 02:06 PM

Hell if you own it then you do what you want with it Jim. This is or was America the last time I checked. Even though it looks like moving to another country might be a better option soon. Cut thos suckers down. I need printer paper.

Jim 2005-06-04 03:21 PM

A forest really is like a garden. Once trees get too big, the block sunlight from the smaller trees and they die. You have to weed a garden and you have to weed a forest. Damn I have a lot of Oak and Cherry trees :)

cd34 2005-06-04 03:33 PM

Wait until the Forest Affiliate program introduces shaving. Those last acres won't be near as productive as the first acres. :)

Save a logger, eat an owl.

Jim 2005-06-04 06:43 PM

I make sure I am there when the buyer totals up the wood each week and puts it in our payout column. The guy is a friend but it would be too easy to skim some of my wood.

Tommy 2005-06-04 06:59 PM

so what this means acres of stumps

I would love to see some before and after pics

That statement made me cringe and cup my crotch with both hands. Don't do that!

TIMBER

Stever 2005-06-04 10:15 PM

Hmmm, I dont quite know what I should add to this thread.

I have a degree in forestry so i know a tad about trees and logging.

Great investment there Jim. Cherry trees too. Very valuable and they grow fast. If your just thinnning them out and leaving the rest you can do it agian in 20-30 years maybe. Or just do some of the land every year or few years for a steady income.

Jel 2005-06-05 01:21 AM

Damn, that's a nice investment - good one :D
