You're a bad bad man Tommy :D

Excellent news MML! Thanks very much for the update |thumb

Cleo 2005-08-30 09:42 PM

I'm watching it on CNN right now. There are no words that even begin to describe what is happening there. It looks much worse then what hurricane Andrew did to south Florida in the nineties. :(

Also they are reporting that the levees have failed and parts of NO are flooding.

Greenguy 2005-08-30 10:40 PM

|thumb for Linkster!

Surfn 2005-08-30 10:47 PM

I just finished talking to a friend of mine who is with the Coast Guard Search and Rescue (they let him take a 2 hour break) and he told me that this is the worst disaster he has been involved in (in terms of magnitude) since he joined SR 35 years ago. :(

juggernaut 2005-08-30 10:51 PM

I know this is going to sound fucked up, but my wife and I had no idea of all this destruction until about 7pm est. We sat down to eat and saw all this. I just hope everyone is ok.

Agreed. Never knew that place was really really under water. They said on the news if they dont stop the water the whole town will be under. Its like 30 or 40 ft below sea level with water on both sides. This is just as f-ed up as 911 only thing wiht 911 we had someone to point a finger at. Who do you point at this one? No one but mother nature. But I'm sure by next week they will be hunting down some poor weather men asking how they could not know it would be this bad. Just sad.

Erick G 2005-08-30 11:09 PM

Awesome news!

I agree Cleo it is worse than Andrew. I have to make myself stay off CNN. I've never seen such destruction it's awful! I find myself getting down from all the suffering going on there. What a fucking mess...... |cry|

ponygirl 2005-08-31 12:59 AM

wow - just watching it all on CNN, it's really incredible.

I hope anyone from here that's out there is ok & knows our thoughts are with them

Good to hear Linkster is allright :D

Simon 2005-08-31 07:38 AM

Everytime I tune in to CNN the news seems worse. This morning they're saying 80% of New Orleans is under water now (20% in places), and that the levees are still flooding new water into the city. The mayor of N.O. was on talking about how there are "too many frickin' cooks" right now and things which could help, like sandbagging, aren't getting done.

My father's brother and family lived on a bayou outside N.O. and it's pretty much nothing but water there now.

It looks bad from here. It's not going to be easy for folks in that region. I hope everyone else we know in the area is okay, and will be able to pick up the pieces and go on with the struggle.

Simon

Useless 2005-08-31 08:19 AM

Honestly, I knew that Linkster would be OK. Chop, on the other hand... I could picture him sitting in a row boat moored to his chimney, fishing like it was just another day in the bayou."

Cleo 2005-08-31 08:25 AM

Looks like NO will soon be known as the city with fishing on every corner.

Wow every time I turn on the news it just gets worse. :(

Surfn 2005-08-31 08:33 AM

IMO this will be the worse natural disaster in our brief (we are only just over 200 years old) history. Death, destruction, and mayhem everywhere in the affected region :(

Ramster 2005-08-31 08:59 AM

Linkster seemed in good spirits when he called. Said they were camping out for the moment. :)

He also comments that most phones lines are down and the cell phones are not working too well. Probably jam packed with people trying to use them and some towers are out.

Jim 2005-08-31 09:05 AM

Damn, this is a terrible storm. I am glad Linkster checked in.

Erick G 2005-08-31 11:09 AM

Looting is getting pretty bad apparently..
I can understand looting for food to feed your family but looting guns and tv's and liquor is WRONG.

With the barometric pressure falling like it was, fishing here on the lake was great just prior to the storm. Since there is not food here we probably will be eating lots of fish the next few days.

Cleo, what are the specs on your generator. My loaner died last night but was able to find a Honda EU3000 at a small hardware store about 50 miles north. Think I might have got price gouged as I had to pay over $2000 for it

Linkster 2005-08-31 12:33 PM

Well - made it into a town and have a little modem hooked up but boy this board is slow LOL
We had to cut our way out basically - trees are down everywhere - I20 has been cleared a little so that traffic is flowing now
We're being told that we might get electricity next week sometime - although most people down south of us arent expected to get power for at least a month
All of the transmission towers for power lines are down and the cell towers as well
Even the underground stuff is gone because the service boxes that were above ground got trees falling on them and were destroyed.
I will try to check in in a few days as Im just out now trying to find some ice - the military is supposed to be bringing in some ice trucks in the next few days - and I always keep plenty of "camping food" so Im eating ok - the pool was full so I have plenty of water - tastes kinda bad LOL

Better get but thanks for the support

Fonz 2005-08-31 12:38 PM

It's alive, ALIVE!!! :D

And to think I start bitching when the electricity company announces a 4 hour power shutdown for their bi-annual upgrades...

Torn Rose 2005-08-31 12:39 PM

Linkster good to see you, I hope you survive this ordeal with nothing more then being inconvenienced for some time.

After watching the news I feel pretty stupid for bitching about our 3 hurricanes last year, we got off so easy.

Surfn 2005-08-31 01:25 PM

Good to see you still kicking Linkster :)

Erick G 2005-08-31 03:14 PM

Linkster should apply for survivor. :D

Excellent! Good to see you posting Linkster!

Hang in there...hope they get your services up again soon.

Guess that's one way to force you to take some time off :D

plateman 2005-09-01 01:29 AM

yeah good to hear your ok, to bad there's not a quick way to ship you some supplies... been watching the news on the hardships down there... its sad... anyway I was almost ready to start building a ark here...rain rain and more rain..

pornrex 2005-09-01 06:03 AM

Thank God you guys are ok.

I hope your family and friends had the sense to find shelter before hand and if not, I hope all are accounted for.

From what I've seen on CNN, this is the worst disaster in US History. The only courage and comfort I get is hearing the brave stories of survival and the 'never say die' attitude for those with the will to live.

My heart goes out to ALL affected and my sincerest condolensces to any and all casualties of this horror.

|buddy| be with you in Louisiana.
