Excellent news MML! Thanks very much for the update |thumb |
I'm watching it on CNN right now. There are no words that even begin to describe what is happening there. It looks much worse then what hurricane Andrew did to south Florida in the nineties. :(
Also they are reporting that the levees have failed and parts of NO are flooding. |
|thumb for Linkster!
|
I just finished talking to a friend of mine who is with the Coast Guard Search and Rescue (they let him take a 2 hour break) and he told me that this is the worst disaster he has been involved in (in terms of magnitude) since he joined SR 35 years ago. :(
|
I know this is going to sound fucked up, but my wife and I had no idea of all this destruction until about 7pm est. We sat down to eat and saw all this. I just hope everyone is ok.

Good to hear Linkster is allright :D

Everytime I tune in to CNN the news seems worse. This morning they're saying 80% of New Orleans is under water now (20% in places), and that the levees are still flooding new water into the city. The mayor of N.O. was on talking about how there are "too many frickin' cooks" right now and things which could help, like sandbagging, aren't getting done.
My father's brother and family lived on a bayou outside N.O. and it's pretty much nothing but water there now. It looks bad from here. It's not going to be easy for folks in that region. I hope everyone else we know in the area is okay, and will be able to pick up the pieces and go on with the struggle. Simon |
Honestly, I knew that Linkster would be OK. Chop, on the other hand... I could picture him sitting in a row boat moored to his chimney, fishing like it was just another day in the bayou."
|
Looks like NO will soon be known as the city with fishing on every corner.
Wow every time I turn on the news it just gets worse. :( |
IMO this will be the worse natural disaster in our brief (we are only just over 200 years old) history. Death, destruction, and mayhem everywhere in the affected region :(
|
Linkster seemed in good spirits when he called. Said they were camping out for the moment. :)
He also comments that most phones lines are down and the cell phones are not working too well. Probably jam packed with people trying to use them and some towers are out. |
Damn, this is a terrible storm. I am glad Linkster checked in.
|
Looting is getting pretty bad apparently..
I can understand looting for food to feed your family but looting guns and tv's and liquor is WRONG. |

Cleo, what are the specs on your generator. My loaner died last night but was able to find a Honda EU3000 at a small hardware store about 50 miles north. Think I might have got price gouged as I had to pay over $2000 for it |
Well - made it into a town and have a little modem hooked up but boy this board is slow LOL
We had to cut our way out basically - trees are down everywhere - I20 has been cleared a little so that traffic is flowing now We're being told that we might get electricity next week sometime - although most people down south of us arent expected to get power for at least a month All of the transmission towers for power lines are down and the cell towers as well Even the underground stuff is gone because the service boxes that were above ground got trees falling on them and were destroyed. I will try to check in in a few days as Im just out now trying to find some ice - the military is supposed to be bringing in some ice trucks in the next few days - and I always keep plenty of "camping food" so Im eating ok - the pool was full so I have plenty of water - tastes kinda bad LOL Better get but thanks for the support |
It's alive, ALIVE!!! :D
And to think I start bitching when the electricity company announces a 4 hour power shutdown for their bi-annual upgrades... |
Linkster good to see you, I hope you survive this ordeal with nothing more then being inconvenienced for some time.
After watching the news I feel pretty stupid for bitching about our 3 hurricanes last year, we got off so easy. |
Good to see you still kicking Linkster :)
|
Linkster should apply for survivor. :D
|thumb |
hmmm good to hear that, thanks MaryLou
|
Excellent! Good to see you posting Linkster!
Hang in there...hope they get your services up again soon. Guess that's one way to force you to take some time off :D |
yeah good to hear your ok, to bad there's not a quick way to ship you some supplies... been watching the news on the hardships down there... its sad... anyway I was almost ready to start building a ark here...rain rain and more rain..
|
Thank God you guys are ok.
I hope your family and friends had the sense to find shelter before hand and if not, I hope all are accounted for. From what I've seen on CNN, this is the worst disaster in US History. The only courage and comfort I get is hearing the brave stories of survival and the 'never say die' attitude for those with the will to live. My heart goes out to ALL affected and my sincerest condolensces to any and all casualties of this horror. |buddy| be with you in Louisiana. |
