Can I run an idea past you guys?
 

I have well over 50 free site templates and was thinking of whether I can sell them. Would anyone be interested? Has anyone ever done this before? Also I have no idea what to charge for them.

You could well be able to sell them, but on behalf of link list owners everywhere......

Might be a great way for a program to jump into HFS :)

Could you maybe take some screen shots and put up one or two examples? This way you dont have to worry about someone taking the code. I know the screenshot can be a dead give away on the layout etc. But just a little something would be nice. Would sure suck to buy something only to findout its like a standard FS template. BTW I would be very interested being my creativity level is like 000000

Thanks for the great input and ideas guys. If I decide to I would definitely do a screenshot for each one, there's no way I would expect someone to buy without seeing first. Yeah I don't think they could be sold more than once, even though there would be 2 months worth. I will sleep on the idea a bit and talk to Punani about it.
I am very attached to my freesite templates (3 years of em).. its just we have a bit of a crisis and need some cash fast.
I am about to make freesites again this week, I had a break cos I had a bunch of mainstream stuff to get done.

For exclusive use of the templates - guaranteed not to be used or sold again - they would be worth around 1200 to me :)

Or for one already into HFS, to add more their mix easily. |waves|

I have been given so many ideas from this... one is maybe I should do a site selling them (and perhaps new ones) individually. Because the part I always loved the most out of making free sites was doing new templates, when I stopped that and started reusing them I was bored shitless.

Best I can figure, free site templates built for exclusive use and unique in design would be worth between $24 and $50. IMO, say Natalie puts hers on a site and sells them individually with non-exclusive use I would say $4 to $10 and the psd files, if any, would have to be included.

How many times have you used each template?

BTW: I think I'm the only person that uses only 1 template per free site...

Probably 1-5.. I think theres more than 50, I have to go through them all. Plus theres different templates and different templates, I know some of the submitters I have THINK their templates are different but are actually far from it.

That is so true. Some people think that just because they changed the background collors or something they have a new template.

Last I heard 10.00 per was the going rate BUT that included putting the entire site together (I suppose you can leave out the content optimization/gallery making) including banners for sponsors.

Finally someone asked her the appropriate question...how many times she already used them. Its not exclusive use if she used them already.

Next question...what niches did you use them in? Question merely so that one could say "ok no big deal she has used them in the tranny niche...I do the anal niche" or what ever.

Not certain but I think 10.00 is for non-exclusive. I think I have seen exclusive going for more.

If you sell them exclusivly id say around $25 each, if you have already used them, maybe $10-15

hmm well I have already used them a few times each I guess. I really don't know its worth it if I am going to keep making free sites. I am still thinking, thinking... I would hate to make a rash decision while I need the money then regret it for the next 3 years as I make new templates every day because of it.

You could always sell off half of them and keep half for yourself :D

That is the part I hate most about free sites. Once I have a template done, I'm fine touching up the pics, cropping them, etc.

There is a market for selling individual templates. That might not help your immediate situation, but if you like making them, you should put together a quick page, and start taking a few orders.

Why not sell them "non exclusive", then you can continue to use them yourself as well ?

I think if I sold them as non-exclusive the link lists would linch me lol. Although maybe semi exclusive.. just me and whoever buys em would be ok.

lol for the 6 week bump but I have been going through my sites and realised that I often use images in my sites that are not licensed for me to resell in something like a template. For example: http://www.pun-an-i.com/cute_ass/ (quite an old site)
Do you think it would be ok if the psd's were with them and you could replace that image with your own? When I if/am done (lol) I will pm those webmasters who seemed interested and tell you where you can view them.

I was going to say don't ship the thumbs/images with the templates and the html would just show broken links. But I am reading that you have the thumbs in the psd and not in a table? Perhaps substitues a blank. Or sell them only to folks you trust

oh no not the thumbs, the artwork I use in some is often made with bought content

IMO If you do not have a license, then you have to sell to webmaster you trust to change them.

Thank you for your help Chop :D I was almost going to leave all those ones out but it's too many. Some people may just not want ones they have to do too much to though, but some would prefer them.
