Happy Crappy Monday :)

Just a lot of mist outside and it is supposed to get nasty. One of those crappy days that you just want to do nothing all day. But, I have phone calls all day so, no doing nothing today.

Oh yeah, yesterday, I heard on the news that a local bar was closed for serving minors. There were 32 minors and 12 people of age. I got a call about a half hour later from my wonderful lovely 18 Year Old Daughter telling me she was one of the 32.

I may be moving her in here this week :)

Fonz 2006-01-30 08:13 AM

Morning all,

Good thing you are permitted to drink alcohol at the age of 16 over here or I would have missed a lot of great parties back then :)

Not much happened this weekend so there really isn't a lot to tell.
Have a good day all :)

Happy Underage Drinking Monday |waves|

I'm thinking that the 1st time Jim was in a bar, he wasn't legally allowed to be there :D

I have to hurry up & finish my normal morning crap so that I can go pick out kitchen cabinets & appliances at 11. I think I'll bring |buddy| with me so I can pray to him every now & then.

Surfn 2006-01-30 08:22 AM

Good Morning Folks |waves|

I'm feeling almost normal today which isn't saying much. I may try to start whittling away at my backlog if I stay feeling well enough...

Toby 2006-01-30 08:24 AM

At 18 I was at college living in a frat house, Schlitz Stout on tap most every weekend. Damn, that seems like a lifetime ago.

Nothing of note going on in my corner of the planet, just another manic Monday.

as always the |coffee is on, help yourself

Wow morning again :)
Went out with my neighbor and three other of my friends to Galanga for dinner and then over to a strip club. Ate and drank way too much and am feeling blotted and hung over this morning.

I have hand therapy this afternoon and other then that I have not a clue what I'm doing.

Espresso is on…

Morning All! Way back in 1978 when I was a senior in High School the legal drinking age was 18. One of my good friends turned 18 while we were still in school and we had a 90 minute lunch break everyday. It’s a wonder I’m still alive :D Great days those, killer |potleaf| was only $35 an ounce.

Simon 2006-01-30 08:32 AM

Good morning all |waves|

Still beating my head against the wall trying to figure out how to construct SQL queries to work from inside a template. If I don't get a lot smarter in the next hour, you'll probably see me posting for help with this one.

I hope everyone has a better day than my morning (and weekend) has been. |banghead|

That was my choice of first-time-getting-stupid-and-drunk drink too. Schlitz was the cheapest we could find :D

Morning folks,

It's another one of those sleepless nights. At 4AM I realized I would never be able to fall asleep so stayed up and cleaned a bit and went straight to the chiropractor.

Espresso and Metallica - One is currently on. But who the #"¤%& put Dixie Chicks on my computer?

When I was 18, the legal drinking age was 18 so, nope, I have always been legal.

Greenguy 2006-01-30 08:43 AM

So you want us to believe that you were NEVER in a bar drinking prior to your 18th birthday?

It was 21 when I was a wee lad, but I remember being in bars with my wonderful chalked license when I was 20 :D

Useless 2006-01-30 09:00 AM

When I was 17, I was in the Nam hunting Charlie. Oh wait, that was a movie. I had a goal of not drinking until I was 21. (there was a time when I was far less jaded and believed the laws were meant to protect me) I almost achieved that goal, but I ended up drinking late in my 20th year. I think I posted the story behind that awhile back, so I'm not going to repeat myself. I'll only say that it was due to peer pressure and a large breasted cocktail waitress.|boobies|

Well, my day is fucked here. In the first cup of coffee I have every morning, I take two sugars and French vanilla creamer. Well, that whore wife of mine used the last of the sugar in her coffee. So, I was stuck with black coffee as my first cup. I always drink black coffee all morning AFTER I consume that first sweetened and flavored cup. Honestly, I don't know how I'm expected to go on. Oh, the humanity. (I happily drink black coffee when I'm a guest in someone else's home though - just in case any of you are considering inviting me over. ;))

Ramster 2006-01-30 09:01 AM

Good Morning.

In Canada the drinking age is 19, just in time for college. |cheers|

Torn Rose 2006-01-30 09:10 AM

I was 12 the first time I was in a bar and was served, but I looked much older, I looked at least 13/14 so no ID was needed. (it was also so far up in Northern Minnesota nobody cared.) I was there with 2 friends both of them locals one of them whose parents owned the resort we was at and I think they was 15/16 at the time, so we went to the bar on a Friday night in his Pinto (I sat in back waiting to die) and played pool and ate pizza and drank beer. (I just had 1 beer since I was only drinking to be able to say “I had a beer in a bar” and hated drinking beer then as much as I do now) It was a really good time.

The bar is still there and we still go there when we visit my parents, and it’s like walking into “Cheers” with my parents since everyone knows their names lol. But I spent most of my time between 18-21 in the Navy and either in Europe, Middle East or Canada so getting to drink was never an issue. In fact I’ve been carded more when I was past 25 then when I was under 21.

After I got my first haircut in 7 years when I was 30 I met a friend in a bar that we had gone to many times and a bartender asked for my ID, I thought she was joking since I had been there so many times and had talked to her so I laughed her off and said “yeah right” she then got really shitty and threatened to have me thrown out.

Ah memories…..

Good mornin all |waves|

My mother owned bars most of my life...soooo, nope I never drank until I was of legal age...but I sure did do quite a bit of bar tending :D

hmmm...I hear a surfer whipping out his cc...gotta run!

Cleo 2006-01-30 09:21 AM

Stated doing drugs like LSD when I was around 13. Did the bars not long after that. I've never been much of a drinker and probably been really drunk less then a dozen times in my whole life.

That's 18 in the prairies! :D
truth was I got absolutly smashed when I was 13... I had dropped out of school (for a year, for being a slacker), so mom and dad put me to work at this one hotel that was being built in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Chicha (corn beer laced with ethyl alcohol) was frequent on any work site. I drank a fw cups and kinda watch the ceiling spin on the third floor.

...didn't drink much after that.

I have a problem with drinking. I don't like the taste :)

I just saw on the news that a local attorney, who lost a son by a drunk driver is filing a class action law suit against the bar. My son knows the bar owners and they are only 22 and 24 respectively. These 2 boys are going to lose everything they own and for the rest of their lives will be paying for trying to make an extra buck by serving minors. My wife says it's the kid's responsibility, not the bar owners. But, I think when you get a liquor license, you take on that responsibility. And come on...out of 44 patrons, 32 were under age. That was the bar that all the kids knew, they could drink.

The US is crazy...The federal drinking age is 18. If you are on a military base, that is the legal age. It's the states that determine their legal drinking age.

Kind of like states where medicinal marijuana is legal but federal law prohibits it. Isn't that a bit of a double standard?

terry 2006-01-30 10:14 AM

Good Monday Morning Everyone.
Lots of snow fell here overnight. Rain expected today with a mix of flurries.. just lovely weather for the end of January. Gotta love it.
Have a great day!

... and just to clarify, the drinking age in Montreal is 18.

I have been to about 12 US Bases, Navy, Army, and USAF and not one allowed under 21 drinking.

RawAlex 2006-01-30 10:30 AM

My theory is this: If you are old enough to vote, and old enough to be sent to war, you are old enough to drink. If you want to raise the age for drink to 21, then all those other things should happen when you are 21 as well. That would solve so many problems.

Ramster, legal age in Quebec is 18. My first in bar bust was at 16. Go figure, I was practicing to be webmaster, I guess.

Going to go look for timmy's coffee in a minute or two.

Alex

I was 14 and in grade 9 the first time I was served in a bar.
By the 10th grade I was gaining access to trendy nightclubs thanks to being well endowed.
Grade 11 photography class was where I created my fake id, although rarely needed it. Someone's licence with my own picture overlayed, photographed to make it seamless, then laminated with bank book covers.

Us Catholic school girls had to have SOME fun after all

Then you haven't been to Fort Huachuca in Arizona. At least, when I was in, the post commander allowed on-post drinking of any service member. He felt the same way as Alex.

sue-fl 2006-01-30 11:55 AM

Morning! Well I thought it was Tuesday today, but it's not all my fault. I was talking to a friend on the phone and she said it was Tuesday also. Damn maybe I shouldn't do anything today that requires me to use my brain |crazy|

Ah underage drinking, had a bar up in Maine that was way out on the back roads that served my friends and I at 14. Thought it was cool back then but when you become a parent you kind of think different.

Jim don't be to upset with your daughter, turning 18 seems to make them not think to well. Hell my son turned 18 and a week later was in jail |angry| I agree with you that the bar was wrong having serving that many minors. Kids are going to get the booze if that want it, but we surely don't need the bars helping them out!

Have a great day!

Growing up around a responsible Mom and a not-so responsible Dad (when it comes to drinking) it was pretty easy to pick a role model. Of course during my University years I did party and even carelessly drank then drove once or twice and thankfully I didn't do ANY damage out there. What's really funny though is now that I'm much more mature, I don't really like the taste of alcohol all that much unless there's some pizza around, then I will have a brewski with it. I have other, more refined preferences, that I might allude to, but of course would never really come out and talk about...|potleaf|:D

Jim 2006-01-30 02:18 PM

No...I talked to my daughter today and she is joining the class action lawsuit against the bar. I would but with her being 18, I can't. I do have a few friends on the lookout for these perverts that let all these underage girls in the door.

Don't get me wrong...I feel sorry when a bar gets busted for selling to a single minor. But, these guys let these kids in knowing they were underage. And, there were too many underage drinkers there to just slip by.

Surfn 2006-01-30 02:21 PM

Maybe it was her wakeup call and she'll stay out of bars until she's legal age :)

Torn Rose 2006-01-30 02:28 PM

So she is suing because she willing walked in and knowing that she is only 18 she still drank illegally and thinks none of this is her fault?

Sorry Jim I think that is incredibly wrong, yes the bar fucked up and needs to lose their license but she was wrong in going and drinking and 2 wrongs do not make a right and I fail to see why she should benefit from it.

Agreed- At 18 she is old enough to take personal responsibility for her own actions

Linkster 2006-01-30 04:55 PM

Someone ought to file a lawsuit against the parents for trying to shirk their responsilibility and lay the blame on someone else - ever wonder why things are so fucked up these days? Cause parents wont accept the blame any more - theyre too good so theyhave to blame someone else - pretty fucked up Jim
