Hey Rumpleforeskin: What Do You Like and/or Dislike About This Board?
Jim & I need to pat ourselves on the back as well as kick each other in the shins :)
So what do you like and/or dislike about this board? Give us a list of each. Don't worry if you dislike something that's you assume is a hard & steady rule of the board - we're looking for honest opinions. |
It's kewl minty green.
That and the community that frequents this place. |

- Like Cleo said, htis place has a great community - This is a board where real webmasters that want to make real money hang out. Not one of those "Yes I agree" and "I'd hit it" boards with 500 new useless (no offens UW :) ) posts every day. - Besides from the very useful business threads like the blogging, link trade, TGP, LL forum there's also some room to chit chat :) - You always get help from people who know what they're talking about not from people who have no clue about the topic but want to get their post count up. - Some nice contests once in a while - Webmaster resources are extremly useful, so are Greenguy's stats, it gives you an idea what converts and what not - The archived radio show on tuesday. It gives me something to listen to the next day - OTB with MML, very useful for if you have questions as a newbie and a not so newbie - Thread titles that confuse the hell out of new members :D Dislike: - Not enough contests, I like to get free stuff :D - The Search Engine chat is at an impossible hour for some of us. An archive of that chat would be very nice. If I think of anything else I'll let you know :) |
Ok hopefully I won't get torn to shreds.. and I will keep it short and only address the things that really stand out to me.
Like : - All about business. I love that! - Greenguy and Jim, you both have an even handed and fair way of dealing with any problems or issues. Never seen a board moderated so well. - Its the linklist board. There is no other board with this wealth of information on linklists and freesites. Dislike - Far too sensitive. Many members are far too easy to offend and too quick to lash out. Sometimes it feels like walking on egg shells, and while this is a small and tight community it can also be a hostile community towards 'outsiders' at times. - Too many subforums. My board time is limited, and while I spend most of it on netpond, I have always read GG&J and try to fit in some time here. I like to look at a main forum with heaps of posts in it, not have to click around a whole heap of subforums. Just personal preference though, and honestly I think its not something you could change now. |
Likes: Great people who are always willing to help and give of their time.
OTB I have learned so much from MML that has helped me really bring in sales. Green is my favorite color :D It's also a great place to come to get some distraction during working. Always a post that will make me laugh. Since joining here my online business has taken off, I don't think I would be doing as well as I am if I wasn't a member of this board. Dislikes: To be honest I can't think of any |thumb |
Well, I'm fairly new here.. but:
Me likes: Nice people, helpful people, a wealth of great info i the archives. I'm only doing free sites now and this is THE place for that. Me dislikes: I'd like the search to be better.. either nothing is found or there's way too much to go through. |thumb |
wow, what a loaded question :D
well here's my list like: - of course the people. There's an amazing bunch here, with so many different personalities. Everyone is so willing to help and pass on advice. I don't think this board is bad to outsiders, there's a few newbies (to the board) that come to mind in the last little while who have fit right in quite quickly. I think it's all in the attitude you come in with, and how (and how often) you interact with others here. - the wealth of information |thumb This is THE place to be for freesite builders and new LL owners, and now it's getting good for bloggers too. The radio show is always fun & OTB is awesome - not just the shows, the chat & the interaction really bring everyone together |thumb - I like a bit of chit chat too, but other boards seem to have a bit too much for me. I'm anti-social, doncha know ;) - a little drama is nice too hehe Generally, I am always here, lurking looking and posting. It feels like home :) Dislikes: - I agree that the seach feature isn't easy for me to use, but I'm not sure if that's just cuz I don't know how to use it well |huh - there are some people who I would love to see posting more that for whatever reason, don't. That's too bad :( - every morning when I go to post in the morning thread, just before I hit Preview, my damn PC crashes. Just about every time |angry| (I know that's not a GG&J problem, it just pisses me off. I'm saving up for a new pc :D) |
oh I just remembered too -
I like the new e-mail notifications, esp. for PMs. I like all the forums, I just usually hit new posts anyway, and it can help narrow down searches. I don't like the User Cp area, it still takes me forever to find out how to do what I want every time I want to change something. I can't make the Member's List button on the top menu work. It just takes me back to the main forum page. I'd have added to my last post but it seemed to long. Well, you asked for it :D |
While this maybe "the" linklist board, even if that's not your thing, there is a wealth of knowledge here that can/will make you a better webmaster. Sometimes, it may be a little frustrating to find, but it's here and well worth the time it takes to dig out.
The people are great and the advice given is top notch. |
I like all the people here.
The lack of bs posts. The way things are orginized. The 'New Posts' link GG's Stats and other resources. Dislikes: The fact that I have been with the board since netsurprise and I don't know about about the secret forum and cant be in the football pool for gg's party.|cry
The people who come here are serious about the business of porn. It shows even when chatting. :)
One thing I don't like, though I don't think it has anything to do with this board: I don't get invited to enough sex parties. |loony
Like:
More business oriented than some other boards Dislikes: I could be wrong (it has happened before #€&/!), but a year ago or two ago there were more new people coming here and staying. Now it feels like the same old crowd and a new head popping in every now and then, but doesn't stay around for too long. I think a lot of it has to do with the attitude towards new people. Might not be just because they are new, but because they are clueless and someone ends up chewing their head off. My 2 cents. |

-The people here are about business. There is fun too and lots of offline chat topics but lots of work related threads and talk. -The people. Friendly and knowledgeable. If I need help I come here!! -They don't allow spammers to boost up their post counts. Spamming is fine, mentioning your products ect. but not posting just for sig views. -Newbies wanting to learn this is the place to be. Incredible help is offered here! Dislikes: -I agree about newcomers getting blasted sometimes. Give them a break as maybe they don't really know the rules. If they are BLATANT spammers then flame the hell out of them. Otherwise the board is pretty damn good. :) |
It's a great board just like the people running it :)
Most of the members are helpful... some just ignore you from day #1 and I cannot get used to it. maybe I am sensitive :) Being sensitive cannot be a problem, if I need some rudeness, I just go to gfy or icq pimpdog. But I can live without it... it just makes GG&J more outstanding and protects the members while proves all this adult forum thing can be done without being mean etc. Contests, great point Fonz, we could use some :P |
IMO, if a newbie can't handle a little harrassment from people who know a lot of useless shit then I'm willing to bet they probably don't have the fortitude to handle this business anyway. |huh
If it's a balance of sitting on the side and reading raw business talk vs. an environment filled with newbie friendliness, I'll take raw business talk and an adult dictionary anyday. |thumb Personally, I like that newbies have to prove themselves before most people here extend extra, extra help. Means there's more pie left over for those who HAVE proven themlseves. :D |
What I like best about this board is that its active. I also like the fact that I'm actually learning something! Most boards are full of misinformation.
Here though when a poster answers a question and gives dubious information a senior member will jump in and politely tell them your full of it! I like that, keeps the newbie and the intermediate from spinning his or her wheels. Good job all |

The very fact that you guys asked this question speaks volumes about why I like this board so much |thumb
I came from another board (which shall remain nameless). The primary reason I stopped posting there was the owner of the board was constantly espousing his dubious 'knowledge' that was vastly out of date |loony| As to the likes; As most others have mentioned...the people! This is hands down the most helpful, friendly bunch I've run across in the online adult biz. The huge volume of quality information available. The mix of legit business information with a good flavoring of 'fun' stuff. The ability to actually conduct business with people that are by and large trustworthy. Those that aren't trustworthy are promptly |bus| I really don't think new folks get bashed unduly. Many of the folks here go out of their way to help newbies. The bashing only seems to start when a newbie attempts to change long established norms and doesn't accept it when they're informed that the topic has been discussed at length previously. Dislikes; About the only thing that comes to mind is that the board search seems to return irrelevant results sometimes. All that said, I'll take this opportunity to publicly say thanks not only to GG & J (because they deserve it)...but also to all those who make this board what it is...simply the best place to be for free site builders and link list owners |thumb |
I think this board is terrific; you can have fun here as well as benefit from the experience of some of the pioneers of the industry. As amadman pointed out, GG's Stats and other resources are a wealth of information for anyone who takes advantage of them |thumb
As mentioned before there is a lot of activity on this board which speaks directly to how well it is moderated, and the integrity of its members. I’m just glad to be here |bananna| I can’t think of anything of any importance to bitch about |huh |
Likes: Well it's all been said before in the previous list but I do have to add that sometimes a person's board persona is not the same as their real life self.. That is not the case ever with those I've been privileged to meet in real life (though fonz isn't here yet so I'll reserve cheetos and judgment) People who are frequent on GG&J are able to be themselves thus their personality shows. That says a lot for a community of people who work together every day. I think there is as much cooperation with people who have no other connection than meeting on GG&J yet do business together every day. |thumb
Dislikes: The board crash of 2003 lost lots of my posts and i'd be much further along towards my 10K posts and I wouldn't be Number 214. |
Keep'em coming |shake|

Likes,
I'm terrible at posting on boards, I'm usually too busy working or fixing my house. So I really like the fact that this board has a great LL section that I can post up changes to my LL, plus read about others to keep up with what is happening to all the places I submit. I also like the chit chat, and all the business forums, I can look in a specific area to see what is happening pretty quickly. I really like the people here. I've met quite a few in person over the years, and it is just a great group.|thumb Dislikes I agree about the search, I too have a hard time with that one. Also the user CP area. It takes me forever to find where I can change my custom title, lol. I can't really think of anything else, you guys are the greatest. |thumb |
the user name script thingy is getting a bit annoying
|
I sure everybody already knows this trick, but people have mentioned the difficulty of navigating all the forums...
If you put this link into your GG&J bookmark, everytime you call up the bookmark you get a nice list of all the newest posts in all the forums, with the most recently posted in threads coming up first on the list. http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/....php?do=getnew copy and paste this url into your properties in your bookmark. sorry if this is already universally known. ;-} |

Agreed. |
I like this board because it’s huge collection of adult webmaster knowledge. Time here is never a waste, you always pick up something new or have nice laugh, just like it’s suppose to be. I think you guys does an outstanding job running it.
|
Hmm..
Pretty much what everyone says, the community is the key. When I have a dumbass question I can generally find the answer here, and I help when I can with the non-tech stuff. Great place to make deals! Only been here about a month and made a few. About newbies, I was torn a new arsehole at first, but hey I asked for a review and the site sucked! I learned from it. And I like Green so much I joined the Party ;) Negatives, morning comes too early for most of the chit chat|yawn| My ass is barely out of bed then since I usually work until 3 or 4 a.m. If I really need to chat then, I wake up my wife and she usually has a few words for me ;) Great place!! |

-It's more about business less about meaningless threads. It's like the wallstreet journal with a sense of humor. It may turn off some webmasters, but they're usually the ones that spend the most time posting |bullshit| threads. -No points / rewards for posting other than a buddy jesus at 1k. I think the value of the board comes in the information you get rather than some monetary amount put on a post. -General sense of community here. People are posting because they want to post and not for some other convoluted reasons. Dislikes (more like suggestions): -I'd kind of like to see a tutorial section on the forum. There's so much bad information given out on other boards, it would be great to just have a section on how things should be done. Eventhough there's a noobie section on the board, the information often gets spread out or buried in a few weeks and god help if people actually use the search feature, lol. It would be nice to have tutorials though written by some board members in their area of expertise. Maybe make the threads locked so they don't get cluttered with comments, etc. It'd just be a resource for newbie webmasters that could easily be refferred to and if they want to learn they can. -Attached images....just have them open up in the thread :D I know this function can get abused, so maybe you can put a limit on who can use it, say 100+ posts before they get that priviledge. Personally, I just like the pictures opening in the threads rather than a seperate link. -The mrblue smiley being added to the smilies, lol...yeah, I'm on a quest to get him added everywhere: |
Most of mine have already been mentioned.
Likes: - New webmaster friendly. If someone needs help it's quick to come from all angles. - So much great free information! I sometimes think you should charge for access to this forum and split the proceeds. - The webmaster resources section/GG stats etc is priceless. I dig something useful out of there a couple of times per week. - The Radio Show. I wish it was a few hours earlier and a bit longer. The random member competition was cool. Never seen that before. - No-nonsense straight-talking advice. - Building business relationships and personal ones. Dislikes: - People leaving for strange reasons, personality clashes etc. - Time zones. :) |
It's good to see I'm not the only one frustrated by the search function. I know Sparky assured me otherwise but the search form really doesn't do Boolean "AND" searches properly which is why it so often returns a gazillion results.
I do think the board has become a bit cliquey over the past year and that newbies or even non-regular posters may come in for more abuse sometimes than they should. Yes, newbies can ask silly questions and it's nice to have occasional drama but sometimes I think the "friendly" factor has dropped just a little. I like the idea of some kind of tutorial for new people. As for what I like - well, there's a lot. The main thing is that business always comes first here, which saves a lot of time. I've found the board very useful in searching for new sponsors as well as great for networking and general amusement. GGs stats are great. Ooh, another small complaint just popped into my head - some of the sponsor listings are a bit out of date. OK... enough for now. |
Search & Admin: these seem to be 2 recurring "dislikes" aobut the board & I'm not sure we can correct either of them. It's not like this is a custom script - it's the same script that pretty much every board out there is using :D
I don't search too much, but when I do, I haven;t noticed any problems that have not always been there. As far as the admin goes, I think it's fine as well - maybe I've used it enough to know where most of the stuff is hidden? :) **** Again, keep'em coming - I think Jim & I will do the entire Radio Show on these topics & see what "dislikes" we can work on correcting |shake
If the site were called Greenguy and shithead I'd still come here.

1. Great member base, like no other adult wm board. 2. You can do business, without bs. 3. You can have fun while doing it. 4. Great moderators who keep this place tidy. Dislike: 1. I spent too much time thinking about what I dislike, so I didn't make another free site. :) BTW, if you need better search for this site, you can try to Google " |

A) The whole business concept of this place, which is bloody refreshing. B) Archiving the weekly radio extravaganza, even if it's just two blokes banging on, I still find it humorous. :) C) The occasional pissing threads, love reading them with my morning coffee. D) Greenies stat dumps. A fantastic reference point that I can use as a what to market guide with my traffic. E) The newsletter. Compared to most other bs ones, It's actualy worth reading. F) No rubbish payed to post setup and a bazzilion sigwhore wankers posting about unlike other boards. Dislikes: None really, and that's the honest non-sugar coated truth. -N |
likes;
honest answers from people I trust the right amount of humor mixed in. useless warriors great comments SEO and Mr Marylou's IRC chat sessions radio show dislikes drama sometimes for no real reason. |boobies
Damn, I found this thread to late. I just read everyones comments. What to add, that has not already been said ...
Likes: The members. Truly nice people here. |bananna| Dislikes: Drama threads. |
Something I forgot to add:
I like that this board is relatively free of the sexist bullshit you see on other boards. GG&J doesn't assume that every webmaster is male and the guys here (mostly) don't make stupid or "pretendy sexist" comments just to piss the girls off. Of course, now I've said that you'll all do it. |catfight| Ooh, that smiley is another good thing. Oh, and I also like the thing where nobody is posting porn photos because we're all just so bored with porn LOL Even if this thread is useless without pics. |
Keep'em coming - my hot secretary chick is taking notes |couch|
