IE 7 Anyone?

I have no idea how far behind the times I am, but IE updated me to 7 yesterday & I have to say, it's just lovely.

I do like the Tab Browsing, but I've yet to get used to it (I keep hitting alt-tab - lol)

Websites/pages also seem to look a lot better now as well.

Anyone else have it? Opinions? Advice?

Welcome to the 21st century :D

sspproductions 2006-10-06 09:30 AM

Ive got it had it since the beta I love it.

You can just right click a link to get it opened in a new tab or window and have each category of the forums open like me I have found it a good way of searching the net without losing the page I started at.

Not had time to look at what add ons there are yet though

Go to Google & let them automatically update your toolbar, as that seems to break it :D

Jim 2006-10-06 09:56 AM

I tried using it during beta and it wouldn't work :) Now, I expect I would have to reboot my pc and I just can't do that for a couple of days :)

MrYum 2006-10-06 10:00 AM

Yup, IE is playing catch up with Firefox :D

Haven't tried it yet here, but have heard good things about the new IE :)

MrMaryLou 2006-10-06 10:13 AM

I was in the dark ages as well :) Now I have upgraded and I really like the tabs :)

KG Gary 2006-10-06 11:35 AM

Euww. Just tried it and I couldn't get the buttons and things into the places I'm used to having them. Straight back to IE6 for me...at least for a while.
|huh

I was confused for a bit as well - took me at least 5 minutes to find the "refresh" button :D

There also seem to be no java with this version - mouseovers might be obsolete |waves|

And both Google & IE seem to be whoring themselves out to everyone with money to buy a button on your toolbar - they are all options, but fuck em, there's a lot of useless option to choose from |jackinthe

stuveltje 2006-10-06 11:58 AM

mmmm Stu<--- checking into the update for ie7

I wonder how much it would cost to purchase a button with a picture of Ashley Simpson that when moused-over reads "Click Here For Free Porn". |confused|

This post does not endorse masterbating to pictures of Ashley Simpson. That would be freakin' wrong!

stuveltje 2006-10-06 12:39 PM

oke downloaded ie7, all went smooth (wow) its all working oke, found my favorites (thats most important for me) i only have the feeling the way the fonts are showing on the webpages are different then before, they look mmmmm like there is an code for it

stuveltje 2006-10-06 12:55 PM

heay wasnt there something where you could change the fontz to large, medium, small and normal, where the fuck is it now?

emmanuelle 2006-10-06 12:55 PM

Yeah, the first thing I did was lose as much of the unneeded crap as possible, but I also wanted to rearrange things as I like minimal clutter. Certain positions seemed to be locked even when I unlocked the toolbars and looked through the options.
I'll install it again sometime soon and fiddle around a bit more. I use FireFox's tabbed browsing for my submits and it would be great to be able to use IE7 for that.
:)

I'm with you, stuveltje. Too much trouble and it was much too easy to give up and go back to IE6!
|loony|

stuveltje 2006-10-06 02:29 PM

oh and i forgot to say, i had suddnely 3 toolbars on my screen and my google toolbar didnt work right anymore

Greenguy 2006-10-06 02:38 PM

3 toolbars? too many buttons? what are you people doing to fuck things up? :D

I think I have LESS buttons now - refresh, stop, favorites, add favorite, home, print, tools - that's it (aside form the google toolbar)

Right click, customize toolbar, add/remove - it's very simple.

Greenguy 2006-10-06 02:39 PM

ohhh - hitting "alt" brings up the old File, Edit... area - NICE!

right click i have too, but where is the top click which shows the real html code of a page in ie7, thats why i needed to change back to ie6, with reviewing i need the top bar view, click source to see the real html code, like http://www.gallery86.net right click you see full html code, top bar click view, then source you will see the real html code, to be honest i never use th right click view source, i always use the top one and i cant find that one in ie7

Greenguy 2006-10-06 04:18 PM

Was there a "view source" button before? I always went to edit - view source or just right clicked on the page & did it from there.

If you don't see the File, Edit, etc stuff, right click the menu bar & check off "menu bar" :)

dareutwo 2006-10-06 04:21 PM

Or remain a dinosaur like me!
(actually I use firefox to review)

i use that one too for my bosses stil there are things to doubt, most sites look like shit in firefox , while they look oke in ie...

ladydesigner 2006-10-06 04:42 PM

I almost upgraded after reading the first few posts but have now decided to stay blissfully in the "dark ages" as MrMaryLou mentioned. Maybe I'll try the new IE7 in the future when I have time... I don't really do well with change. |dizzy|

KG Gary 2006-10-06 04:49 PM

I installed IE7 again and I'm keeping it, even though I want "home, print, tools, help" (the command bar) on the top left instead of on the right. I want it next to my favourites, dammit!

Are you looking for the "Edit" button (a pencil icon). If you are - "Customize Command Bar", "Add or remove commands", and add it from there. I think that's a one-click view source button. Is that the one you want?
:)

BishopWeber 2006-10-06 07:10 PM

Does somebody use firefox for everything? I do.
Oh, no, I use IE to check hotmail when I click on the mail notification of the msn messenger, and that's because msn open it by default.
I just love Firefox, there is a plugin for everything you can imagine.
The last tool I'v installed is a macro recorder, now I can open all my stats at the same time with 1 single click.
There is no way back to IE for me. And if I need it, I just open it with the firefox IEtab.

|loony|....

If you just keep adding buttons, eventually those 4 will move to the left |couch|

stuveltje 2006-10-07 05:30 AM

i will installl ie7 again today and spend all day to figure that damn thing out :D

I actually tried that and almost managed to get them halfway across.
|loony|

I'm getting used to IE7 now.
I just need to remember to click to close a single tab rather than the entire browser and everything will be fine.

I really like that it uses that cleartype font thing by default. Not sure if the extra space each character takes up will cause any problems though.

emmanuelle 2006-10-07 10:16 AM

Anybody know how to kill the search box in the ie bar? I prefer using my google toolbar and don't really need both up there

I also have the Google toolbar and don't need that top right search box, but when looking for solutions all I really found was that you can reposition the "File, Edit, View....." menu bar to put it above the address bar using a registry edit thingy, but that's about it.

Maybe one of those tools to tweak things will be released, as most of the complaints I've read about are about NOT being able to change fixed positions.
At the moment I like IE7 a lot, but I just wish I could make a couple of tiny teensy weensy adjustments. I have wasted space and three rows of stuff when I want no wasted space and two rows, dammit!
|angry|
I'll shut up about it now.

ladydesigner 2006-10-08 07:52 AM

I'll still say I'm not going to upgrade... right now anyway. As soon as I hear these small annoyances have been fixed, I'll run right over to Microsoft and download their shiny new browser. Until then, IE6 and Firefox work for me. |loony|
