I think I have been screwed.....

Guru's

I think I have been screwed, I purchased a turnkey site:-

http://www.hardcoresexweb.com

I am totally new to this and I am trying to promote it, but I can't add links or exchange banners. I have little or no traffic. Is there anything I can do?

Your advice would be much apreciated.

Thankyou,

Abercwm

Tommy 2007-01-16 04:17 PM

I am curious how much did you pay for it ???

well you could always buy traffic or you better start learning hot to become a webmaster

pray to the google gods

I wouldnt spend any more money untill you start to learn what you are doing

MrYum 2007-01-16 04:39 PM

Your instincts are probably correct in that you took it up the butt :(

That looks like a linked series of full page ads, nothing more...

That said, it would probably make a decent hub site to funnel traffic through. Tommy is right, at this point it's time to learn how to generate traffic to drive through it.

Stick around and read this board...building free sites might be just the ticket to get some linkage and some traffic |thumb

Cleo 2007-01-16 06:05 PM

Buy ten of them and make ten times as much money.

Hope you at least used a condom.

SheepGuy 2007-01-16 06:49 PM

Do you own the domain? Probably not, but if you do you are in a bit better shape.

abercwm 2007-01-17 02:37 PM

Thank you one and all for your replies.

Tommy I paid £250 (approx $500)

MrYum---Stick around and read this board...building free sites might be just the ticket to get some linkage and some traffic....

Could you give me a link?

I could have the domain name transferred into my name.

Once again thanks

Abercwm

Try to get the domain name transfered to your name. I would be willing to bet, you can't.

HowlingWulf 2007-01-17 05:52 PM

MHO only:
That domain doesn't really stand out and isn't worth much. The site is just a skin for Adult Movie Network which rebills at a hefty 39.73/mo, and the design doesn't shout out conversions. I'm curious if they sell the same design multiple times with the sitename just pasted at the top. BTW the blonde chick on almost every page I recognize from adultczechcontent set 777.

$500 is way too much for the domain, $10 would be fair, but it least if the domain is transferred he could scrap the crap design and do something else with it. Jeeze, probably getting screwed on hosting too.

MrYum 2007-01-17 09:22 PM

Sadly, he's probably getting screwed all the way around :(

500 bones for what's there is nothing short of a lubeless assfuck.

However, if I'd taken that kind of a screwing, I'd probably try to make something out of it. Add some text in spots, throw some links up to it and try to filter through it a bit. Then again, might be easier and less painful to toss it aside and forget it ever happened |banghead|

Actually, this whole place is the link. Read through the link lists and getting listed forum. Look at some of the links others post asking for advice. Surf some of the larger link sites you'll see listed in sigs in these forums.

You could learn how to build free sites, which are submitted to link lists. Those lists send traffic to your free sites, where you have links to paysites ($$$), AND possibly links back to your...well, let's call it your 'hard lesson learned' site.

For whatever it's worth, you're far from the first and most likely not the last to have purchased that kind of site :(

There are lots of ways to generate traffic in this business, but free sites are one of the best places to get started :)

Personally I agree with Mr Yum, if you have paid that much for it try and make it work for you without spending any further money or very little. Get the domain into your own name and the hosting sorted unless a hosting package was in with the price.

Then get some of the links changed, Live Sex at the foot, have that going to a page of just webcam affiliates, sit down with a pen and paper and work out where and what changes you can make. AEBN offer a much better chance of gaining a conversion. Yes it looks like you have been screwed but then there are people out there that would pay $500 for a fancy site design looking like this so not all is lost as long as you can make some changes to better sponsors.

ronnie 2007-01-18 06:40 PM

If it makes you feel any better, people have gone through the same thing for alot more cash. Worst comes to worst and you can use the site, you could always build feeder sites, like free sites and push traffic to the paysite. All might not be lost. We dont know all the details. What do you make per sign-up? Is it recurring pay? ect, ect.

jonnydoe 2007-01-19 12:27 PM

"500 bones for what's there is nothing short of a lubeless assfuck."

For that much he should have gotten a lifetime supply of analease or astroglide ;-)

cd34 2007-01-19 12:55 PM

abercwm,

What was represented as what you were purchasing?

It looks to me like you bought a doorway into an affiliate program where you have no control over the domain, site design, links, hosting, etc. in return for a share of the money. I.e., you get x%, your vendor keeps 100-x% for the costs of running the backend, hosting, design work, etc.

Was the sales pitch structured so that it looked like you would own a piece of a larger enterprise, throw traffic at it and collect money without having to manage/run the backend? If that is the case (and based on the statement above that you couldn't change anything), I think you're probably better off abandoning, learning from the board, and doing it right.

if on the other hand you own the domain, tour, etc, well, it might be more salvageable.

It really boils down to what you were actually sold. Your first task is to figure out what you actually purchased.

Exactly what I am thinking Sparky. If the domain and design are movable, they may be able to make something out of it.

It's sad that people do get suckered into any scheme like this. My Step-Son's Stepmother looked at buying about the same thing. She asked my advice before buying and I told her to run. Of course, she didn't listen and tried to make a go of it. She eventually lost interest and let it go. I think most of these people selling these things hope for just that to happen.

It's not all that bad. You have come to the right place to learn how to build sites and make money. Most of us have lost money one way or another and losing $500 isn't the end of the world. Would $500 really change anybody's life? As you said, just treat it as a lesson learned.

Hey Abercwm, If you are able to change things around, give me a call or IM, I can set you up with AEBN.

I'm just curious as to how the this pitch went down that got you to shell out the money for this site?

Cheers,
B

Ramster 2007-02-28 01:23 PM

Companies advertise throughout the web and in local newspapers in some cases. They advertise a turnkey site for $500, they supply the content, they do the billing ect and ALL you have to do is promote it and let the money roll in. Be part of the 1.3 billion dollar a year adult internet industry in weeks with only $500 invested.

Total Scam.

Sad, ripoff artists are everywhere. :(

conny 2007-02-28 02:22 PM

Getting ripped off is part of the learning process...
sad but true. But a good way to learn is right here on this bbs

Good luck anyway
and NEVER give up and you will make money

misternox 2007-03-06 06:05 PM

When you're new to adult and you don't research things it's easy to fall for something like this. I made the same mistake on impulse about 3-4 years ago but I only paid about 100 bucks or so, I was required to pay a small monthly maintenance fee. Needless to say I bailed after one month.

I had responded to and ad in an adult publication. I bought into it after talking to some guy on the phone. I was new, hungry for cash and had a credit card with a hefty limit.

Abercwm i'm not sure if there is a monthly charge, but if there is I would cancel asap.

Velvet donkey 2007-03-09 12:49 PM

for 300 dollars I will sell you the domains for www.bullonbull.com and www.buckonbuck.com... Just do not fit into the velvet donkey paradigm.|thumb

For reals though Abercwm as the Donald said best, everyone gets screwed at some time. If the dude who sold you the domain does not transfer such into your name I will give you either www.bullonbull.com or www.buckonbuck.com or www.denveru.com so you can park your start there. Unless in the not to unlikely event someone snatches all three before you shoot me an email. velvetdonkey.com@gmail.com. Not Santa Clause so if dirctnic charges a nominal transfer fee I will let you work out such with them. Keep the chin up.|santaslei |santaslei
