I want to learn about SEO
Do you know any good book that explains how it all works?
I had nice experiences with Google taking some of my sites in good positions (for a while) but the truth is I dont know much. If you give me some advice of where to look for info id really apreciate it :) Thanks, Annie |
I would probably learn via seo forums instead of books for the reason that the search engines are always changing and information can become outdated very fast. However, you could pick up the basics from a book like this one by Brad Callen maybe.

Lowry - I have been checking out his software, SEO Elite and Keyword Elite. Do you or anyone else for that matter have any experience with this software?

This site may help, might be a little dated but i think most of it still applies..

There are soooooo many SEO oriented boards, sites, articles and tutorials. Why get a book? Just read SEO articles for the basics (make sure they're up to date).

One things for sure I wouldn't come to forums looking for SEO insights, all you will find is self proclaimed experts regurgitating each others bile. |
Im looking for a SEO forum right now, thanks everyone

I have often looked at this "book" but have not purchased it.

I'd be wary of SEO forums too, if people claim to know too much it's sure enough they wouldn't discuss it on a public forum.
You want to be looking for the basics then work on various things that over time that make a difference. What works for one site doesn't mean it works for another. Using Google webmaster tools is a big help as you can monitor your progress and get an idea on what you need to work on. |

Once you have a good understanding of the basics, you can do your own experimenting and see what works for you and your sites. Mr. Spock - I have not had any experience with that software. |
It's a moving target with enough books written on it to fill a library, all out of date by the time they hit the bookshelves.
Visit Web Monkey for free advice and tutorials on all things web and for links to other great resources. For SEO and SE registration, articles, tutorials and actually doing it, go to Tooter and browse a while. Join. It's free for the first month, then you decide how much to pay (he suggests $10 per year, but it's up to you). I've added my affiliate code, which is easy enough to remove. This guy does his research and stays up to date. The other great SE learning resource is Google. If you have an Adwords account, see its very useful baggage of tips and tutorials. If not, go to sign up for anything with them and follow the links instead. AVOID forums for SEO until you have far more experience. They are full of smoke, mirrors, rumours, superstition and just plain bad advice which you need to be able to filter out. |

I also learned SEO in reading related threads and forums
|
Reading about SEO is largely a waste of time. It's like riding a bicycle: you learn by doing.

I agree that most of what you read out in the forums and E books is either outdated or something you should take with a grain of salt (opinions and general consensus conclusions do not write algorithms) - there are two links I can provide that will give you the most up to date and accurate information out there:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/ - written by an engineer at Google who is the head of their webspam team and has the occasional interviews posted in video format that answer a lot of questions http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/ - official answers to questions about Googles search and has some links to some of their group discussions |
I knew about mattcutts but I didn't know about the other one - thanks!
I'm also reading trough several SEO books these days, as I'm struggling to start my own baby LL, and some of these people seem to know what they're talking about some not, but we've all gotta start somewhere I believe... I'm trying to stay away from everything that even smells fishy and take it one step at a time and hopefully i wont trip and fell and break my own neck in the process....... |
check ezinearticles or bigarticles, they have anough info about seo and search engines marketing.
