Part time or full time?
So I'm curious how many people here are part time who have other jobs.
Me, I'm part time with a full time day job. I work as a network tech for a large Canadian telecommunications provider. Would LOVE to do my online work full time but that is far off in the future. So anyone else? And curious how much time you get per day to do adult work. |
I'm full-time.
A good week for me will be much like most other full-timers here - 60-70+ hours per week with lots of very, very late nights. A bad week can reduce the hours to as low as 30 some weeks - school holidays, unwell children etc etc. There always seems to be something that needs to be worked on that eats away the main meat of my working day. Some "great new little project" fluttering away in the back of my head that gets it's own named little folder on my desktop. Then it sits there for a few days until I move it into another folder which is full of these folders of distracting new projects that aren't going anywhere....yet. As a side note I worked out my freesite building numbers for the whole of 2007 and it turns out that I missed over 100 days of possible submits, which is unacceptable. I had no idea I'd missed so many and it pissed me off. So I'm now being ruthless with my work to make 2008 a good year. :) |
Full time here. Probably close to 70 hours a week. |juggle|
|
Im part time
I work 45 to 55 hours a week on another job, Then i try to get 20 - 30 hours a week working on free sites and my link list. I would love to be able to make 265 freesites a year. I would only average 100 or so freesites a year (if id been in the biz more than a year). Im thinking i can convert this to full time by next year. |

the only time I'm really away from my PC is to make dinner, go grocery shopping, take the kids somewhere or when I'm sleeping. It may sound pretty sad but I love it. I wish I could cut out the sleeping, I'd be online like 20 hrs a day :D |
I start around 1 p.m., take a break from 4-8 or so, then work until 4 a.m, usually 7 days a week but sometimes I work less on Saturdays.
|
Full time. I work from about 7 am-7 pm every day 6 days a week. Sometime I feel like tits and html are permanently burned onto my cornea's |shocking|
|
Full Time - it is so funny because everyone is like i wish i didnt have to work like you, little do they know webmasters, although the work might be physically easier, is loooong hours, i go to the office from like 9am - 7pm and then get home and i am signed on all night responding and answering emails as much as possible..
then there is the girlfriends who say "stop playing on the computer" listen woman this computer is paying for this house so shhhhh |
I've said it before I'll say it again this is my part time job, my full time job is convincing the wife I know what I'm doing.
I get up between 3Am and 4AM take a nap during the day, usually watch a couple hours of TV with the wife in the evening, sleep by 10 and I can't tell a difference between a Saturday and a Monday |
Full time - probably 10-12 hours of work each week, and another 60 hours seeing if I can get my head any further up my ass.

I don't count the hours, but what others have posted would be a good ballpark estimate. |
very interesting!
Since its my thread, I can hyjack it LOL. Any tips that part time people like me can do to help move to full time? I realize that if I could get the time, it could happen but with limited time, I'm just not sure of a solid game plan to make it happen. |
Im full time and I love not having a boss, but I must admit Im a PC addict! If I am with no company Im probably at the PC =P and I like working on my sites so I suppose I spend 50+ hours a week working on them
|
Man, you full timers are making me jealous. I work part time doing this, and full time 55+ hours a week in a job that's not so bad, but I never realized working could be so enjoyable until I started doing this. Good to see there are those that make a living doing this, and maybe one day I'll be there.
|
This is all I do but I haved gone down to part time. I put in 5 to 6 hours in a day/night used to be a lot more.
Bob and I are busy helping our daughter a single mom of one soon to be two, raise her kids. This wears my ass out more than putting in the long hours I used to online..:D |
Full Time x 2 = 6 hours mainstream and 10 hours adult. Adult 7 days a week some weeks. The wife has always known that I push push on new projects until I'm satisfied. I have OCD . Plus it's winter , so I'll take some time off in the summer when the water gets warm. I'm not a winter surfer anymore unless its overhead and firing.

I have 2 kids and its the only thing keeping me from quiting my "other" job
|
Since the first day of this year I am a full time submitter. |bananna|
I have a minor remote job, but usually it does not take too much time. Second part of 2007 was harder for me, a full time job plus the remote job plus submitting 3 galleries per day. I was very stressed by my nazi boss at the full time job... And by nazi i mean a real nazi not a strict boss... :( The funny is that two weeks after I left the guy who took my place left the company too :) My aim with working from home is to be able to raise salary from month to month and to learn a lot, and be with my little family as much as i can. I hope i wont fail in this and will not have to look for a 9to5 job... Peace |
I was part time from 1996 until 1998 and have been full time ever sine - however I did take about 4 years off and all I did during that time was play online games like DAOC and WOW - If I hadnt employed MML to do my submissions during that time I surely would have had to take on a real job.
The above posters who work full time pretty much sum up my work schedule - I spend alot of time in front of the PC - some days productive, others not. So I have real long hours, lots of naps and very little social life. I dont have any "normal" schedule" - dinner is often at 10pm breakfast can be at 4am basically we eat and sleep when we feel the need. I dragged BlueBrit into this biz so now he is as bad as I am - Id wager even worse! |
I was part time from late 01 to late 04 keeping my full time job because of 3 kids. When the third child was in her last year of highschool I switched over to full time. Now working 70+ hours a week on average at home.

1999 - 2001 I was part-time, now I'm full-time working out of my house. I do though split my time between adult and non-adult projects. I have one large client I work on his sites that is non-adult, and a smaller business making homemade soap. :)
I don't ever want to to back to working for someone else. Just thinking about picking up some more non-adult clients to make extra money makes my brain hurt. MadHatter and I haven't had a vacation though of more than 1 or 2 days since we went full time. Like alot that do this full-time, I work 7 days a week, many hours a day. I tend to get up early and hit it, and kick back in the early evening, and go to sleep early. MadHatter gets up late, stays up late, so we are on different schedules. As for someone trying to get to full-time, don't quit your day job. I didn't quit until I had built up my income with adult enough that could pay all my bills and eat, and then worked a few more months and socked away some savings. We also pay a LOT for health insurance with high deductibles, so take into account stuff like losing any benefits when you quit and having to pay for them, or go without, before you decide. And work a LOT. I was soooo tired because of doing both for so long. Also, don't discount doing work for a sponsor, another adult webmaster or company (something MadHatter and I have done during different times) and working from home, or picking up some non-adult clients. Everything helps. Having income from several sources really helps that if one source is less this month, you might have another that is higher. |thumb |
Full time and just finished lunch in front of the computer :D
Started part time in late 2000-early 2001 and went full time I guess 4 years ago now in late 2003. How to go from part time to full time? Keep working! Keep submitting daily. Spend time on projects but always always always spend time FIRST on the thing(s) that make you money. Usually that is building and submitting a free site (or gallery). Diversify and expand. |
started in bizz 2001 fulltime...wel fulltime, i believe bizz was my life, the most hours i ever worked without sleep was 36 hours......i remember the many days when i slept only 30 minutes on the sofa then get awake to get kids ready for school and then working again, many weeks i slept downstairs...just for 30 minutes and then work again and totally forgot i had also a hubby..i |bow| for my hubby, not many husbands would agree that their wife lives only for her netbizz (but hey , i took care of the household and kids and food, and building an income, i only forgot the part i was a married too with some guy:D) and forget that they have a working hubby too, now 7 years later i work less hours, maybe about 2 hours a day (sure i have work for 15 hours a day...but that an other story), i dont even manage anymore to work 23 hour for bizz in one day, i am getting to old for that, and with last years problems in private life i decide to change my life drasticly....still i am slowly getting back and notice that i still love bizz:D
My advice would be, bizz is cool but if you are married or have a girlfriend then dont forget your private life, your puter is addicted, realy it is, i have seen to many webmasters in bizz getting divorched because they spent more time behind the puter then with their spouses. Also surf the net get on boards try to find out what is around in biz what more you can do to earn money otherwise then building free sites or galleries. Make friends!!! get in contact with other webmasters and learn. oh a final tip, get enough sleep:D |
Guess you could say I'm full time. As in I dont have a real job. I go thru periods of working 16 hours a day and periods of working 30 minutes a day. Because of numerous personal problems in 07' things really took a shit. I basically worked on average of maybe 10 days a month from April to December. I've just in the last month have my personal life back on track and have been working 8-10 hours a day mostly 7 days a week. One good thing about this biz I found out this year is if you do have a personal crisis you can take a shitload of time off and the checks keep coming in as long as you pay the server bill. I've been an under acheiver in this biz for years. I've contemplated getting a real job the last few months, but realized what I make per hour online that I would be much better suited to just spend more time online :) There for a few years (2003-2006) I was working maybe 10 hours a month and making more than I could at any real job. Guess my mistake has been settling to easy, I need to be a greedy son of a bitch and bust balls on here so I can be pimp'n the bling, haha.
EDIT: I should add that I've been at this in one form or another since '99. Quit my job in Jan of '00. I started off doing the old school CJ (circle jerk sites) pop up hells. They were shitty sites, but I was banking over 700/day by working 2 hours a day and by work I mean looking at traffic and sponsor stats. After those died off I realized I didnt know how to make money unless it was off some form of console and it took me from 2001-2003 to adapt, and I found my into TGP galleries. My advice is if you are a part timer that wants to be full time is when you find something that works, find ways to do it more and better, and spend 90% of your time on that. Dont piss away hours and hours on shit that wont make you anything, thats another thing I have done far too much of. |
Full time - and so are my other two jobs. Time of year makes a difference for me as my "day-job" is very seasonal. I have no typical schedule - sometimes working 24 to 28 hours straight and then crashing for 5 to 6. My only real escape is my motorcycle (weather permitting) and stopping by the clubs - but even there, I'm never really off work since I recruit about 90% of our models personally. The up side is that I do get to recruit the girls and I've have a ton of great girls this year - now if I would only stop loaning them money........

When I quit work a number of years ago, the idea was to look after the kids so my wife could concentrate on her career. I recently started my adult site as what I call my "permanent part-time" job. My children are older now and need less looking after so my idea is to expand my sites and my non-adult work to become full-time over the next several years.
|
Both of us have full time jobs and we do this about 3 hours a day part time. We use the money (or lack of) to pay for our car loans.
|
I'm still officially off sick so i suppose i am full time on this.
Given the choice, i'd prefer to make it permantly full time without the need to do a real world job but i think that will take time. |
All times are GMT -4. The time now is 03:38 PM. |
