Going to be really scarce for a little while.

As most of you have read in the good morning threads, we have been waiting for tests on my lovely wife. She has been going through something like morning sickness and is dizzy when she is not sitting or laying down. We had all the tests and while they still don't know what the problem is, they do think it is cancer related. We can do regular cancer things standing on our heads...we have been doing them since last spring. But, this is different. She really has to sit down 15 seconds after standing up. So I've had to kick the caregiver thing into high gear. I am thinking about asking her sister to move in for a while..but truthfully, that would be hell and maybe worse for both of us.

To get the final answer as to what is causing this she is having a lumbar puncture Monday morning. It could be something as simple as an infection.

Anyway, emails and PMs will be answered when I get a chance. Newsletters will most likely go out normally or maybe willie nillie. Feel free to start the "Good Morning" thread. Mornings are the busiest for us and I would hate to have her attempt to walk downstairs without me by her side.

best of luck jim, I hope it turns out to be something insignificant.

tigermom 2008-02-22 03:57 PM

Take your time and be with her. I hope it turns out to be something small and that she'll be better in no time.

sue-fl 2008-02-22 04:24 PM

Jim, so sorry to hear what a hard time your wife is having. I hope it is something easily taken care of.

You don't have to worry about us here, we all want you to take care of your wife and yourself also |thumb

digifan 2008-02-22 04:26 PM

Be with her, this is the most important.. I didn't even want to bother you with a pm or email now.

Tekster 2008-02-22 04:38 PM

Family should always come first. Take care of your wife Jim, I am sure we will survive here.

My prayers are with you both and I sure hope is something minor. Best of luck.

Porn Junkie 2008-02-23 12:06 AM

Jim, my best goes to you and the wife. I hope you can get some answers soon. The important thing for you is to be there for her. And when your return or just need to "get away", we'll all be here for you.

Well, the results are in. It appears that the cancer has moved to Vickie's brain lining. Not a lot more details I am quite ready to share but needless to say, I will continue to be scarce.

tigermom 2008-02-29 05:12 AM

Please know that you and Vickie are in my thoughts. Sending lots of get-well vibes your way.

Simon 2008-02-29 06:40 AM

Just take care of your lady and yourself, Jim.
You two are in the thoughts and prayers of many good people.

Oh Jim ... I'm so sorry to hear your hard news :(

Please know that you and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers as you travel this very difficult road. Stay strong during this difficult time!

I know it's very hard beacause I'm going through a similar situation myself right now, but remember that hope and positive thinking always helps!

I really hope that everything will turn up all right in the end.

All the very best to you both. :)

Jim 2008-04-04 10:12 AM

We finally have an update. Damn, I really didn't say much in that first post did I?

I am going to try to keep this short. The dizziness is being caused by cancer going to my wife's brain lining and spine. There have since been a lot more problems than just being dizzy. It seems that there is only 1 treatment available and that is in clinical trial at Sloane Kettering in NYC. And, that treatment is only available if there were antigens attached to the cancer cells. 25 days or so ago they took a lymph node and sent it to NYC to see if these antigens were there. We were told it was about a 10 day turn around and we found out the day before yesterday (well over 20 days) that the antigen was there.

I was told when I found out that we would have details in about 4 days after our insurance approved the trial. That's where we are....

I have no idea how this will work. I know it involves a 9 week hospital stay but I don't know really how long we will be in NYC. I am guessing about 3 months but I could be way off. We could be leaving as soon as Monday but I suspect the following week for some reason.

Obviously "scarce" is not the word to use while there. I think the word would be "gone" or at least, "very scarce". I did purchase a new laptop for the trip(s) but still... I think there may be more pressing things going on.

Preacher 2008-04-04 10:46 AM

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the depth of the situation, but good luck with the trial.

If there's anything you need help with to keep the board running, I'm sure you'll have plenty of volunteers.

stuveltje 2008-04-04 11:07 AM

tough times, i know a friend of mine going thru the same thing, they are in an other country now already for 8 weeks to deal with it. I hope all goes fine and good luck

sue-fl 2008-04-04 11:20 AM

So sorry to read how much the cancer has spread that is very sad. I wish your wife the best with the new treatment. Take care of yourself also Jim.

Tekster 2008-04-04 11:22 AM

All the best wishes Jim, hope for the best.

papagmp 2008-04-04 11:52 AM

We all pray for the best.

docholly 2008-04-04 12:12 PM

Sorry to hear that..
but know that Sloan Kettering is the premiere cancer research hospital in the country so the care she'll get will be top of the line.
We will all be hoping for the very best for you and Victoria.

Second best according to US News :) But, that is close enough because the Doctor we will be seeing is the number 1 skin cancer doctor in the country.

SheepGuy 2008-04-04 01:34 PM

Sorry to hear that Jim, but glad she is is getting the best treatment out there.
