Sarah Palin is McCain's running mate

Sarah Palin
I see this as a good thing for the Dems

Jim 2008-08-29 11:03 AM

I knew it would be a woman. I heard this morning that it was going to be Meg Whitman, the ex CEO of ebay who has never held any government office. :) That would have been slightly better. :)

Besides ousting members of her own party, I can't seem to find much more about her.

Bobc01 2008-08-29 11:19 AM

I'll take bets she's heavily involved with some fucked up church..

Kinda ends the McBush argument of Obama not being ready, not like he is 72 years old today, what could happen?

Is this decision a smart-choice or desperation politics.??

From down here it all appears a bit transparent...

Has she got big tits?
Has she done any porn?

I guess bible thumpers really do flock together. Does she at least know how to use a computer, unlike McCain?

If McCain wins I think she'll be the first woman president over Hillary since McCain likely won't last 4 years, the dude is 72.

They said that Reagan wouldn't last as well. If McCain gets elected, he'll just nod off a lot during diplomatic dinners, it's not like the president really runs the country, if the president really did, they wouldn't leave an important position like that to something as silly and risky as an election.

She's a little too "perfect." Former beauty queen. Journalist. Political reformer. Loves guns. Loves jesus. And Loves fetuses.

She's the broiler plate conservative's wet dream.

Oh, and she's a milf.

I've learned one thing about watching these campaign shenanigans: It's not about proving that you can run a country, it's about out PR-ing the other guy. Every smear is delivered with laser-like accuracy. McCain's choice today was a finely honed attack at the Democrats: Get those jaded Hilliary supporters (as crass as the attempt may be), give the VP a pretty face, and have her embody those token conservative qualities the right embraces (jesus, abortion, guns, etc.) It's PR at it's finest. It's also unfortunate. The US media has turned US politics into a soap opera. And they have a big hand in writing it.

If she truly is a great politician then I wish her well. But it sounds like the McCain campaign is pulling a PR stunt here.

Beaver Bob 2008-08-29 10:18 PM

a 72 year old with a cougar and a MILF. That could make for an interesting movie :D

McSame (my friend) is trying to pander to the Hillary voters. Too bad she's the exact opposite of Hillary on just about every issue.

Only a few more months until the neo-cons lose power!

elKabong 2008-08-29 11:02 PM

Personally I think McCain just gave the election away... but then what do I know?

However, what's really amazing is that regardless of who wins, for the first time we'll definitely have either a woman as the Vice-President or an African-American as the President.

It's interesting times that we live in...|cool|

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner. |thumb
My wife and I were discussing that very thing this evening. The MILF is a woman, but she doesn't have the same modern woman ideals that Hillary does. Ideologically, she's like a really hot farmer's wife. Being anti-abortion and pro-guns probably won't fetch as many female voters as they hoped for.

Speaking of guns, does the average democrat care all that much about guns either way? I know that politicians like to repeatedly outlaw the same automatic weapons that have been illegal since 1929, but when is the last time anyone has proposed any real heavy anti-gun legislation with serious intentions of doing something? I heard Obama mention the importance of retaining the right to bear arms while getting AK-47s off the street last night. But that's only because he's never held one. They're really cool - and loud. (Yes, I'm one of those guys who doesn't want other people to have guns, but wouldn't mind a few myself. But just the cool ones.)

I've never understood how all these Anti-Choice people are so against letting women make decisions for themselves that have no effect on their lives whatsoever, yet they are all gun-touting hunters who kill innocent animals.

I'm not anti-hunting, I hate PETA, and I fucking love meat. I just find their position a tad hypocritical.

No,. the right-wing likes to fear-monger and make people think the dems will take away guns from law abiding citizens. I think most democrats respect the 2nd amendment.

on a side note, I'm not a democrat or a republican, I identify more as libertarian. Fiscally conservative, socially liberal. But ever since I started working in adult, I find myself voting democrat. The republican party has gone to the shitter.

Kinda like I'm a vegetarian, but the thought of hunting any animal makes me ill, let alone eating it, yet I believe in abortion rights. Go figure. |huh

I sincerely hope this just gave the election to the Dems.

I really hate how some of the christian right label anyone who believes in a woman's right to choose as abortion lovers.

I'm all about live and let live. I'm cool with people who like to hunt, people who are vegans, people who have abortions, and people who choose not to have abortions. As long as they don't impose their shit on me. Abortion isn't something I care for, but I can't see how anybody thinks its their business to tell a woman what to do with something growing inside them. And that comes back to the topic and why most of Hillary's supporters are not going to support McCain just because he picked a female Veep.

elKabong 2008-08-30 08:00 AM

I realize that this may get me into trouble with some members of this board, but after reading Palin's biography I have a lot of doubt about her judgment.

She's 44 years old and has five children. In April of this year she gave birth to her the youngest child, who unfortunately has Down syndrome.

Here's what causes me to question her judgment:

From Wikipeda... "Maternal age influences the chances of conceiving a baby with Down syndrome. At maternal age 20 to 24, the probability is one in 1562; at age 35 to 39 the probability is one in 214, and above age 45 the probability is one in 19."

What's a woman who's 43 years old and already has 4 children doing having another child when the risk of Down syndrome is so high?

She seems a little more self-obessed and selfish than I'm comfortable with as the second in line to be the leader of our country...

Well, I think if she wants to have kids with downs syndrome, thats her business.

What I don't understand is how the hell can someone have 5 kids, one an infant with special needs and be a heartbeat away from the Presidnecy. McCain just turned 72, so I think his VP pick matters a little more than Barack's. Does a mother with these kinds of responsibilites really need to take on a 24 hour a day job? This is the republicans and their "family values" |shocking|

I totally agree that it's her choice, and her business. It just shows a lack of good judgment IMHO.

Let's hope that a majority of Americans recognize what a poor choice McCain made and vote accordingly.

well as my point of view this is a pretty nice move of mccain to help his candidacy for the upcoming election.

She knew in her 2nd trimester that her fetus had Downs and choose to keep it anyway. Her body, her choice. But as typical with the Pro-Life crowd..they are all about birthing but once they are born ..Oh What to do? What to do?? Oh wait.. I can run for VP and escape my Maternal responsibilities for the next 4 months. and maybe 4 years ...

So much for her being in with the "family values"...

and I still cannot understand those Pro-"LIFERS" that are also Pro-Death penalty. Once again..its all about giving birth but nothing about what happens after that cord is cut. If you are PRO-LIFE ..doesn't that mean Cradle to grave???

I love how she said she's going to blast through the 18,000 cracked glass ceiling that Hilliary did. LIKE WTF..Obviously she's ignorant of her own party.. Margaret Chase Smith Shattered that when she was elected in 1940. and Geraldine Ferraro who ran as Vice President in 1984.

I still say the whole thing is a set up.. orchestrated by the Republicans. Of all the viable candidates, McCain was the least electable yet he won. Then he picks Anne Oakley as his running mate to ensure an Obama win. As a country, we have a very short memory. The damage done over the last 4 years is not going to be repaired on January 21st 2009. It's going to take a long time. And I do think things are going to get worse. We haven't seen even but the tip of the housing crisis. In 2009 and 2010 almost 2x the number of "interest only" ARMS are going to adjust that we had in 2007. and by 2010 we'll (collectively as a country) will be blaming Obama for all our 'troubles". That way the Rep. can SWEEP in 2012.. 8 more years.

*climbs down off her soap box*

Yeah, good post...

The thing I find most troubling is the Supreme Court appointments. The court has already shifted far right under Bush, and McCain would make matters even worse. These are not the socially libertarian type consevatives, but the ones that want to protect us from porn, gay marriage, and other Bible based horseshit they can push through.

I agree, last night, I went to dinner with MadHatter who had steak, I don't care he eats it, but don't ask me to, lol. And I could never abort a child, but I would defend someone who wanted too.
