I've been wondering about getting in mobile is it worth the effort?
Care to share your resources and results?

I have wondered the same but have never gone further than a little investigating sometime back.

I drove through Mobile on the way to and from Atlanta last Sept. Seemed to me like there was some money there.

When I think about mobile I keep asking myself, "Do people really surf porn on their cell phones?" I've yet to get a good quantitative answer to that question.

With over 30 million iPhones sold so far it would seem that there would be a market.

Exactly. Add in the users of other G3 capable phones and the number of potential users more than doubles. That's why you keep seeing the mobile porn question asked. But so far I've not seen any answers from anyone I'd consider credible.

but almost nothing in North America due to the phone companies regulations.

Yes getting into mobile is worth it.
My conversion ratios for my regular affiliate programs are around 1:3000
and my mobile conversion rate is around 1:700.

Most sales i see now a days are from my iphone sites. Mobile is not just limited to phones though. You have psp, ipod, zune, and all kinds of other portable devices. Its a bigger market share than what most people think. I tend to target iphone users because my thinking is if you have 250 or 300$ to spend on a phone along with a 100$ month plan, you can spend 30$ a month on a porn membership without thinking twice. Also the keyword term iphone porn has been increasing in searches ever since i started in the mobile biz.
One of the biggest misconceptions i come across, webmasters think they need to devlope websites with a wap format. As the smartphone market increases there are less and less users that come from wap enabled phones. In europe this may be a diferent story but for the US this holds true for the figures i see.
Going the mobile route can be as simple as building a blog advertising one of the many mobile devices out there.

I don't know but I do have a few thoughts.

In my opinion, there are a number of stumbling blocks:

- With no SMS billing in North America, the surfer has to use a credit card which is less likely with a cell phone browser. Some phone browsers don't even have secured connections for CC transactions. Having to use a PC browser first cuts down on impulse buying which we know are a lot of our sales.

- There doesn't appear to be standard for hardware and software (screen size, file format support, javascript support) so you can make sites that would look great on one phone and are useless on another. As Cleo said there are 3M iPhones so maybe specializing in one phone type might work.

- Most smartphones today support media cards. A porn consumer may just load some movies and pics on his/her media card and slip it into their phone thereby bypassing the porn purchase through the cell phone.

I have to say there seems to be a HUGE Blackberry craze going on around here. So add that to what Cleo stated the numbers for iPhone are 30 Mil. I have to think between all the G3 network phones its a good niche. I think the real question I have is how do you promote it?

hashbury are the sites you use to get traffic regular web sites or are they mobile sites?
Are the majority of your sign ups done from a computer or from a mobile device?
Care to share what traffic generating techniques you have tried and what worked and what didn't?

All my sites are regular sites, no "mobile sites"
Most of my signups come from iphones, blackberrys, and ipods, but i do get a few signups from comps here and there.
My best traffic producing method is by using a main blog to feed a bunch of little niche blogs on there own domains.
Various tgps (such as the hun) are starting to accecpt mp4 formats.
I have also seen very good results from webmasters using mobile link directories where everyone submits their mobile sites.
To get started in mobile i would suggest targeting a device that can display regular html.
I go after psp, iphone, ipod, and blackberry. Although some older blackberrys seem to have problems with sign up forms.
You should have mobile traffic going to your sites right now, just check your stats. Having one link to a mobile porn site on all your sites can turn those users into sales.
I do have a little bit of inside know how in mobile, and i will tell you our biggest sellers are blogs (I will actually be introducing some hosted iphone rss feeds for my company soon).
One other thing, The mobile market isnt over populated with webmasters, So it is easier to make sales and get ranked for good mobile keywords.

US mobile traffic works the best and converts about 1 in 80 for us at the moment. I know there a lot of sites out there that will do link exchanges, and maybe a few in this thread by the looks of it. I have certainly seen a few of these sites on my travels around the boards. Good luck.

There are certainly many people who ignore the mobile internet or even call it nonsense. But wasn’t it similar with the internet a few years ago? Didn’t the offline industry snigger at the online business? And what is it like today? The offliners now have proper respect for the online business, don’t they? And not just that. They are also suffering from fear of losing their livelihood.

The mobile internet certainly won’t replace the fixed internet. But we want to tell those who are laughing about the mobile internet, that they are very, very mistaken!

When comparing the mobile internet to the fixed internet, the mobile internet is approximately where the fixed internet was in the year 1998. But we should bear in mind that the development of the mobile internet will progress much faster than in those early days.

According to a study by Juniper Research, erotic content on the mobile internet will generate US$ 4.9 billion in the year 2013. In the next five years they are expecting an overall turnover of US$ 14.5 billion. With a share of 39%, Europe will play the biggest role. And this is only referring to the adult sector.

I hope that I have illustrated to you the massive revenue potential of the mobile internet. Again, the mobile internet will never replace the fixed internet, but it’ll complement it in an ideal way.

Some studies are saying that an average of 5% of the whole internet traffic is coming from mobile phones.

So I'd start to analyze my webtraffic and see how many mobile users are coming to my sites. What kind of products do you offer these users yet or is this traffic lost?

Do you know that you can add some PHP code to your site which detects mobile phone users and redirect them to an alternative site with converting mobile products?

$20 is the cost to use it commercially. That's less than one PPS.

Andy Moore's script is excellent and works wonders on blogs.

Do you really need to resize the page for each mobile device? I thought that quite a few of them, like iphone and blackberry, resize the page to fit within the browser anyway.

A there's the crux of the issue. Of that 5%, how many are surfing porn? And of those surfing porn how many are going to buy porn based on their mobile viewing?

I've yet to see any unbiased data that shows people are buying porn via mobile.

Making member area content available in mobile formats is an entirely separate issue, but from the affiliate side of the equation, I still don't see that there's enough of a market to spend too much time and resources targetting mobile surfers.

I may be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but I've been hearing about mobile being the next big thing in porn for several years now, and it's just not happening.

Students in college already buy a lot of porn so I can see this market exploding as more schools start requiring iPhones or other PDAs like this school has started requiring.
