Guns suck!
DD |
Sorry you feel that way danger dave
|
I completely agree with DangerDave.
In fact as a gunshot shooting victim myself who has six gunshot wounds and who has lost many friends to gunshots and also has lost a few family members to gunshots I can't even begin to express my hatred of guns. Far too many guns and not enough brains. |
sorry to hear about that cleo.
Not to preach here. Its the bad apples that make it tought for the law biding citizens. Jim or Mr Mary Lou yank this thread I dont upset the fragle people |

I meant fragle people as in not wanting to offend anyone on the subject.
And while this is seems its going to stay. Why not make it hard for people that have hurt or killed with a car. After all it is the most dangerous thing anyone/everyone does, by driving a 3000 ++ LBS machine. A gun is a safe thing in the proper hands. I am licensed to own and carry one in the state of CA and AZ People kill people, be it from a rope, a knife, a car, a hammer, a brick, etc etc. |
It is spelled fragile not "fragle" and just because I believe that guns unlike cars, bricks, hammers or even a knife have no purpose to exist other then to kill does not make me fragile. Here lies the problem with guns in that it makes its owner feel empowered.
Here go watch a movie instead of wasting your time shooting guns. http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/ |
Well you do not own a gun so how can you really speak for the rest.
I do not in any way feel empowered of being a gun owner. But it is my right as an Americian to own one or two or 10,000. As it is for you not to own one or two or 10,000. |
I'm an American so I guess that gives me the right to bear arms. I for one have decided that I need to protect myself with tactical nukes in case all the crazies out there with guns decide to attack me.
What is everyone's recommendations on low yield nukes? I'm looking for something that doesn't take up too much space or require a lot of maintenance. |
Yes correct, You are backed 100% by the United States of America to have that right to bare arms. Be it for self protection or for work or just your rights.
as for the "tactical nukes" Try building one. the FBI, CIA will be knocking down your door so fast it will make your head spin. Not sure but I think that would be High Treeson againsts/on Native Soil. thats a big no no cleo.... |
No treason here, I love America, just want to exercise my right to bear arms and my choice of protection is tactical nukes, no wimpy guns for me.
|
Different Strokes for Different Folks :) I am not a gun fan either but they have there place.
|
Write your local congressmen then.
As I said before a gun is a safe thing in the proper hands. Two states have allowed me to do so. I don't own mine for protection I have mine for a hobby now. But when I lived in CA and was a business owner and transported simi large amounts of cash the state allowed me to take a course on firearm safty, and gave me the right to be licensed. And when my gun isnt in use it is always taken apart and locked up. |
I remember Fraggle Rock - they have Doozer dolls at the local Media Play :)
I'm not a big fan of guns. |
The house right next door to me was owned by born again Christens, it is owned by a same sex couple now, and when they were selling it we all went over to check out the house. It had this strange second floor addition that turned out to be an armory complete with a hidden room that had more guns in it than I've ever seen in one place. I guess they were all legal seeing as it was open house and they were very willing to show off their gun collection. There were gun turrets in the windows with drop down steal barriers. It was to be their holdout for when the end of the world came and I guess all us sinners wanted to pillage and plunder their homestead or something. They bought a cave in North Carolina and moved into it.
The two guys that own it now have since remodeled it and it is one of the nicest houses for many blocks, the dooms day room is gone and I doubt very much they are gun owners. Very few people were I live are, but I do have some friends that are gun owners. They are always telling me that I need to own a gun and point out the fact that I should have had one when I got shot. I have cats and know how to use them so watch out I'm a bitch with pussies. :D |
This glocks pretty fuckin cool
|
Cleo,
Sounds like your former neighbors were some wacked out, David Koresh, Branch Davidians wantabees. I would never force my beliefs on anyone. Only you are in control your life. You said you were shot. How did you feel after the fact??? What do you use for protection if any now mace, stun gun. Was the person/people ever cought for assult on you? A friend of mine and myself had a gun pulled on us, by a over zelious cop that was fired after a complaint was filed againsts the officer. |
Hey Chrome,
Do you own a glock? |
nope.. no glock...
inherited a couple of guns from my dad when he died. 22 rifle and a dumb little handgun. I keep them cause he'd be pissed if i got rid of them.

2nd amendment, stereotyping ,and fragles, OH MY!
I loved Fragle Rock.
I've owned guns (I think I actually still do in CA -- need to check up on that), shot many different guns, but I've also been shot at. Very scary stuff. There's no perfect answer. But because of past history for me, I'm more nervous around knives. It's all about perspective and respect for other's feelings. |
I like...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...06443?v=glance ...to get to some facts. He's a goofy lookin' dude, but sticks to real data: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/493636.html http://www.johnrlott.com/ I think you are better off posting on this group for this subject: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...group=rec.guns :D |
I own guns.
Most of them are for hunting. Each of my hunting firearms has a particular use for different types of game. Also have firearms that were used for my former occupation. Therethey were nessecary. I know that me being armed often kept situations from escalatating to a point where someone got hurt. I do feel we have a problem with guns in this country. I feel that all gun owners/purchasers need to have extensive background checks done, I believe they should undergo firearms safety training, and I feel there should be laws to require firearms to be stored in a safe manner. Unfortunately this issue is so polarized that no resonsible legislation is likely to occur. Back to the orginal question. I would recomend the Sig/Sauer over the Glock. Both are well made reliable firearms but the Glock has some design features I feel are drawbacks. Personally I carried an HK. |
neo-gel,
I do agree with you. As I stated when my gun isn't in use it is taken apart, the firing pin is removed, the gun barrel with a coated cable and locked so it couldn't be but together with ease. And the parts are locked in a lock box. I had to take a 8 hour safty class on proper handeling etc etc.. And I do not store ammo. If I need it I would buy just enough to shoot at the range or store. I respect and I am also scared of it. But again as I said a gun is safe with proper handeling. And thanks for the Sig Sauer info |
I still want my own tactical nukes, just so that I can say I have them. :D
Personally I think that watching Bowling for Columbine should be required in order to own a gun. |
Cleo,
Then best to read this prior to watching it: http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html ;) |
I haven't seen the movie Bowling for Columbine and don't care to see it. A few friends of mine (non gun owners) said the movie was full of lies, a few friends (gun owners) also said the same thing, the movie was based on lies.
And If I remember correctly Michael Moore was booed off stage at the 2003 Oscars... Cleo you say you are againsts weapons or machines that are made just to kill. What about the Native Americans that used the bow and arrow, a Axe, Hatchet, and Spears (All weapons made to kill) not just as a survival tatact but as a weapon for self-defense. further back in history to the French Revalution and the gillatine. That was a machine made for killing people. The eletric chair, leathel injection, rope used for hanging people in the days of 1880's. Or the tubs made to drown witches. Its just a part of history. As long as people are afraid of what they don't understand there will always be a machine or process of death. After all it is a way of life in an imperfect world. I am done... |

Anyhow, soon people need to take responsibility for their own actions, the kids that cause the death of those innocent people were responsible, their parents are responsible, if we had responsible parenting we would know if our kids were making bombs in their bedroom. There are a lot of issues with everything, and we cannot simply say "Guns are bad", so are cigarettes, they kill people and yet the manufacturers are held responsible not the idiots (like myself) who buy the cigarettes and die from lung cancer. It's my fault I smoke, just as if it would be my fault if I killed someone with a gun, car, knife, hammer or brick :) Just my 2cents on the subject. On that note I never wish to see anyone shot, wounded or killed. I was a paramedic for about 5 years and have seen some nasty shit including gun shot victims, sorry to hear you were a victim Cleo, hopefully someday we can keep guns out of the hands of idiots and in the hands of good law abiding people. |
DAMMIT! I hate it when I close the window instead of hitting submit after previewing a post... |angry|
Let's try this again... 1) Bowling for Columbine is a SATIRICAL piece. 99.475% of the entire film is fabricated. Michael Moore even admits this fact. He just wanted to get everyone's panty's in a bunch and he did a brilliant job of doing so. 2) Weapons only kill in the hands of those who already intend to kill - accidents aside. If I wanted someone dead I could just as easily kill them with a pencil, an icesickle (not in Arizona), or my bare hands that were trained to kill by the USMC. I don't have any reason or compunction to kill anyone though, so I haven't. 3) To the question at hand... I'd go for the Sig Sauer. It has a more sturdy design and a smoother action and I've never heard of one jamming, unlike some stories of Glocks I have heard. For smaller caliber hand guns I'd go with a Walther PPK .38cal. They are compact, balanced and smooth as glass in their action. |

Now for those that haven't seen it go watch it. It's only fair as I've tried guns. Can't judge something unless you experience it. :D |
Cleo I will make a deal with you...
I will see the movie when it gets on HBO. when you think that as you said Originally posted by Cleo "Here go watch a movie instead of wasting your time shooting guns." It may be a waste of MY time, but unlike the 60 minutes I spent at the range. I will never get the 90 or so minutes of my life back watching that movie. I hope you don't believe everything you see on tv or in movies. |
I love gun threads. They're so much fun. |bananna|
Rick, I've got a P90 that I like a lot. I couldn't find a good reason to spend the extra money on the Sig. To the anti-gun folks, I get where you're coming from. There's some unsavory types and stupid ass people out there that have cast a dark shadow over the responsible, law abiding, gun toting rest of us. And you can make the arguement that guns serve no valid purpose, although I guess there's probably some cops and soldiers that would dissagree. So I understand the "I don't like em, so no one should have em" attitude. But, can anyone think of anything else that enjoys a bad reputation with a large segment of the population, has a few "bad apples" spoiling it for the rest of us, serves no real, quantifiable purpose, and has a lot of people calling for it to be outlawed altogether because they believe that this "evil thing" itself leads to pain and suffering, and not the amoral asswipes that use it for their evil purposes. |
No matter how you justify it..
Guns still suck! |bananna| DD |
I'm not a fan of guns and I've never allowed them in my house. Even when I had some state troopers as close friends I still would not let them in wearing thier guns.
That is my right in my house but I never gave them grief about it as it was thier right outside of my house. Some people are not fans of porn or think porn sucks. Lucky for us those people don't have the right to impose thier views on the rest of us. I went to a gun safety class given by the NRA in Maryland. A few of us from work wanted to go skeet shooting so the old timers put us through the class so we could shoot at the course also owned by the NRA. The instructor repeated over and over again that if we spent enough time in the class room we would find all the answer. He even touched a couple of the posters on the wall that contained the answers to the questions. They made sure that even the most stupid person could pass the test. I also got paged and never managed to actually shoot. 1 dumb ass actually failed the test and the instructors had him take it again. If you're using a gun safely then be proud of that. Why bother mentioning that you took a course and passed a safety test. Everyday we all see some pretty stupid people that took a driving class and passed a sfety test ;) I love reading emotionally charged posts :) |
OK OK...I'm a little late to this thread...
anyhow...I own a glock 40 cal....mini...model 27 I believe.... I also am licensed to carry it concealed....not that I do....(or do I?????!!:-) anyhow....guns are dangerous....but so are crack smoking drivers....so it depends on how to protect the gun if you have one in your home or on your person...mine is in a safe right now in 3 pieces....so I wish any 5 year old the best of luck in figuring out the combo to the safe...then how to put it together...... In other words....its a safe gun... XPorn |
OK. No gun thread would be complete unless we fought over...
Politics+Religion and most importantly- Who was better: Kirk or Picard? |escape| |
Religion kills more people then anything else.
Picard is more sexy seeing as his head looks like a penis. |
I have been looking to get a gun myself. Nothing fancy, just a shotgun for home protection. I live about 5 minutes from Remington Arms so, shotguns are cheap here. I would have never even thought of it while my children were small but, it is probably time.
I live in an area where anyone could break into my house and never be seen. And, we have animals in the woods about 200 feet away that could kill myself or my dogs easily. I am as far from a Republican as I think you can get but I do believe in the right to bare arms. I actually thought of moving to Mexico when Bush was elected. Canada would be much closer but, it is Canada :) Anyway, I don't think I could kill anything. I even hate setting mouse traps :) But, if you are going to break into my house, you better do it very soon. |
