Welcome to π Day 2013

Spent a good part of yesterday cleaning up the restaurant website that I took over a few months ago. The design wasn't bad but all the pages were done in iframes with their own scroll bars. Also there was new windows opening full screen all over the place and lots of broken links. Plus each page had its own set of identical menus that needed to be updated each time there was a change. Also each page had the hours on it that also needed to be changed each time the restaurant changed its hours which was almost weekly. Made the header the hours a php include so now I just have to make changes in one place. New events for the website have already come in this morning so I'll be working on that yet again today.

Other than mainstream stuff just another thrilling day of nasty porn to work on.

A good steak, a satisfying blowjob, and some pi for desert.

Hope everyone enjoys their special day.

I was about to ask what "N Day" was, then I slapped myself in the forehead :D

Don't worry... you have a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. |fonz|

Greenguy 2013-03-14 09:03 AM

I was gonna say that "N Day" already happened, back on Jan 21st.

Good day. It's getting cold again out there, hopefully it doesn't last. That's about it, nothing new really.

|angry| Old Racist comment: "Shouldn't N-Day be during Black History Month?"

P.S. I'm not a racist, just playing one for minute on a message board.

Personally I'm still gagging on the N Word day comment.

Good Morning
Starting to finally feel normal again. Occasional cough and the throat seems a lot better so I may venture out into the real world and get me a meatball sandwich :D

I just realized it goes both ways too! How appropriate for the industry.

Fonz 2013-03-14 05:04 PM

Good evening,

Did a bit of offline work today and went to get me a new chicken. Now the one surving chicken in my coop has a friend :)
That's about it for me today.

Have a good one all!

I'm just listening to some dnb...
And doing stuff... (posted on the other thread of what are you doing)....

Good night. Well the client I help in New York lost their verizon circuit for a huge chunk of the day. It was a hard down and was way upstream. So there must have been a bunch of angry people in midtown on 42nd pissed off if they were using verizon.

That got sorted. They tried restarting the server and the open directory got trashed. So I recovered that. Yah backups!

After that I got ordered a system for voip for another client that is moving into a new office. Really my first voip setup so this should be interesting. I think tomorrow I'll be deploying one myself on my home network in a virtual machine to test things out.

Now for the past 4 hours I've gotten some solid code work in and just sent the last bit up to my github project account. Good times. Some of which is for my new link list code. Well a little more than a link list though now. As not being at all one of the bigger link lists I just know I need something more these days. ;)

Alright that's my fun day. Time to read in bed and pass the fuck out. First though probably visit /b/ for some lameness.

Using Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP, clicking on this link opens the website then blocks it with an alert box saying that Windows Explorer cannot open the website. Clearing the alert box causes the page to go to the standard IE 404 page.

Had someone else say that they were having an issue in IE but checking it on a couple of PCs didn't pop up any errors.

There is a mobile redirect script on the root page so wondering if that is causing problems.

Could have also just been you hit it as I was making changes. Yesterday they had me add and remove a special event over and over again as the powers in charge couldn't agree on what entertainer was doing what.

The site 404's back to the root if a missing page is hit. Not sure what you mean by the "standard IE 404 page." Is that the page that IE puts up if the server can't be found?

Could you check it again and tell me if it is still throwing up errors?

MeatPounder 2013-03-15 09:33 AM

Getting the same error here

Oh WTF :(

It's working perfectly on all the PCs that we have tested it on.

Installing Parallels on one of my Macs now so that I can do more testing under IE.

I removed the mobile redirect. Can you check it again?

Still have the pop up error
The pages work in the background behind the pop up as you can see that it is cake now, but getting rid of the warning causes the page to crash

Cleo 2013-03-15 10:20 AM

How about now?

Error still there, and closing the error window causes this

Another head script removed.

Now?

At least I know what it isn't.

How about this page?

Every link on that page works fine except the one to the root (home)

Just got back home.

It must be the mailing link then.

Let me make a test page with just the mailer on it.

Cleo 2013-03-15 12:01 PM

Test page with just mailer form on it
http://www.michelesdl.com/test.html

Cleo 2013-03-15 12:33 PM

I just found out that the code for the mailer form was incorrect.

Got the correct code from the form website and placed it on the root page.
http://www.michelesdl.com/

Now I have to find the correct code for OpenTable since the iframe after you hit submit is opening off the page in whatever version of Windows I was using over at the restaurant.

MeatPounder 2013-03-15 01:40 PM

site loads now|thumb

The problem was that the last web person copy and pasted the rendered code from a web page into this site's pages instead of just using script embeds provide by OpenTable and Locu.

I've never worked with OpenTable and Locu so didn't know what their code was supposed to look like.

One last thing. One the reservation's page after you hit Find a Table it is supposed to open in the center of the page in a Lightbox type window. When I was over at the restaurant on their Windows8 PC it was opening off the page. I've since put the correct code so hopefully this fixed it.

Can you hit Find a Table and tell me if it is opening in the middle of the page or off screen.

MeatPounder 2013-03-15 02:04 PM

middle of the screen

That's odd I'm using IE8 and it worked. Seemed like it loaded a bit slower as opposed to Firefox and Chrome though.

Edit: Nevermind my dumb ass didn't see there was a second page before I replied.

ecchi 2013-03-16 09:35 AM

Sorry, never got back here to answer the questions you asked, but others did an I am glad to see it got fixed. You are not alone having problems with IE8/XP, it is a bastard of a setup and a lot of sites that load on both older and newer versions of IE/Windows fail on IE8/XP. That is why I use it, a lot of surfers still use IE8/XP and by using it myself I can see if my own sites are fucking up on it. Incidentally PayPal should also try using it. It is currently impossible to use PayPal to pay for stuff on IE8/XP. If I want to buy anything I either have to surf on one of my other computers or fire up FireFox or Chrome on this one.

Yesterday I finally got Parallels with Windows XP up and running on a Mac mini and then installed IE8 into that. So now I'm able to test stuff under IE8 and the beauty of this setup is that it's running on a Mac that I can access via screen sharing so it doesn’t slow down my work computer.

I think I wasted more time trying to clean up that site then if I had just built it from scratch. Even this morning I found another minor issue. The person that built it had used Century Gothic in their stylesheets which would be great if all computers actually had that font installed so I replaced it with the Google front Didact Gothic that is being loaded from Google.

That's the same reason I liked mine until a virus/malware destroyed my system a couple weeks back even with virus protection in place so be careful surfing.

If it looked proper with IE8/XP it nearly showed up perfect everywhere else except for the occasional spacing issue, font size difference or display of a table. Nothing that breaks just looks a slight different which I can ignore.

This reminds me I really need to get that system rebuilt and when I buy a mac need to figure out what cleo was talking about.

http://www.parallels.com/

Runs pretty decent. Needs lots of RAM. Tends to slow down your computer when it's open so I prefer to run it on another Mac and use screen sharing to view that Mac's screen.
Quote:

Macs come with built-in screen sharing capabilities, which can be accessed from the Sharing preference pane. The Mac's screen sharing capability is based on the VNC (Virtual Network Computing) protocol, which means not only can you use another Mac to view your screen, you can use any computer that has a VNC client installed.
