Help with video clips

Hey,
It looks like I'm having issues with my video editing software |banghead| . Can I get a few people to check the length of these clips for me, and post how long they are?

1. naudia_marieMed_FS.mpg
2. naudia_marieMed_FS_001.mpg
3. naudia_marieMed_FS_002.mpg
4. naudia_marieMed_FS_003.mpg
5. naudia_marieMed_FS_004.mpg
6. naudia_marieMed_FS_005.mpg

Thanks
(Sorry Greenie and Jim if this is in the wrong section)

They all show 17 sec for me in WMP9.

HC-Majick 2006-10-18 07:13 AM

thanks lemmy....thats exactly the problem. would you play one of them a second time and see if the time changes?

My video editor software says 21 or 22 seconds each when I split them, as does winamp when I play them.

Lemmy 2006-10-18 07:25 AM

Yup, they all changed to 21/22 seconds. Strange...

Same here, I think it's a WMP issue and it's the reason some freesites get declined for having "not enough movie content".

HC-Majick 2006-10-18 08:24 AM

yep fonz, thats why I posted.

How strange. Same thing for me here. First play shows 17 seconds, second play shows 21-22 seconds.
I had some trouble like this when I first started editing video clips. Now I use Windows Movie Maker to edit everything and I usually ensure all clips are a few seconds longer than I intended to make them.

I remember having an issue like this when we did some HFS's for Mayor's Money & Sparky advised us that it was a problem with the the coding of the movie or a server setting as far as how it's played. I'll ask him & see if he remembers.

thanks greenie. just sent you a pm

The problem back then was that the content/type was set wrong for the video, and the player didn't quite know how to handle it. I checked the first two, and the content/type is properly set:

Code:

Content-Type: video/mpeg
I get mostly through the first video when there are a number of issues with my player:

Code:

SwScaler: using unscaled yuv420p -> bgr565 special converter
Cannot sync MAD frame:  0.018 ct:  0.054 506/506  1%  1%  0.7% 0 0 0%

Perhaps this is what is tripping up wmp? I don't know why these errors pop up, but, its a potential source. I'm using mplayer with the windows codecs on linux which comes up with the following for the first video:

Code:

real        0m22.307s
user        0m0.116s
sys        0m0.032s

HC-Majick 2006-10-18 10:30 AM

thanks sparky...but why would it play all the way thru the second time?
these particular clips were taken from a longer wmv, and cropped and converted to mpg using sorenson video suite. But it seems to happen with clips I haven't touched (although obviously I can't say how they were edited prior to me using them).

Thanks all, I appreciate everyones imput.
I guess i'll just add the extra clip to be on the safe side.

It seems these kind of movies have to be loaded completely to your harddrive first before they show the correct length, when you review and you see 3x18 sec movies just let one load all the way and then click that link again. It will probably show 20 secs. now.
