Looking for input on tube script (for legal site)

I'm looking for input on which Tube script you'd suggest for running a fake/legal tube site -- one which does not accept any surfer-submitted content and does not host any content of its own, instead only linking to sponsor hosted videos.

Aside from easily importing the links to sponsor-hosted content and a good admin for managing the site and content, some of what I'd like to be able to do is let surfers register on the site, save their favorites, rate and comment on videos, search for what they like, and any other 'Web 2.0' type features. It would also be great to have a report of what registered surfers are saving as favorites and what search terms surfers are using on the site.

So...if anyone here is running a legal tube site and is happy with the script you're using I'd be interested to hear that. And if you're not happy with your script choice, I'd like to hear that too. I'm not looking for a free script (unless it's awesome) and I don't mind spending a reasonable amount for good script which does what I want.

TIA for any suggestions you can offer.

Check out Nubile's tube script. It's pretty robust, comes with some really good templates that you can customize if you know your css, and best of all, the price is right. It comes pre-loaded with their content, but you can delete it as long as you leave their link up on the bottom of the pages.

I've only tried TEVs and Nubiles.

With TEVs the front end is completely customizable. However it currently does not have user registration or saving favorites. It does allow comments and ratings. I think the cost is reasonable and the search engines like the links. Support/help is very good.

Nubiles is free, you have to use their templates which you can change a few things via CSS if you know how. Building a custom front end design seems difficult if possible, that's why all nubile tube sites I've seen appear the same with different colors. Since you have to use a template, plugging in something else on your site is difficult. Also their links are not search engine friendly. It's like the Mac of tube scripts. Easy to set up and use, difficult to change. Since it's free, you can give it a shot yourself.

I use the Nubiles Tube script...for a freebie it's great. Easy to install and set up, and the templates look pretty good.

I only use it for sponsor hosted content, however...and I've only need able to import when the sponsor provides output in the correct format. Someone with more ability and time might could make it import anything..I don't know. Pimproll and Vidz, along with others provide the correct format, so I've got plenty of content.

I've got the beta version of JBM's Tube-X which looks promising. When the final version comes out, I will most likely use it exclusively as I've been very happy with their TGPX product. All JMB's stuff is great.

Here's my tube site...I spent very little time with it, just threw it up for my visitors to have more stuff to click on:

I use nubiles and am pretty happy with it. It comes with about 15 templates but it is a bitch to do anything with other than make some CSS changes.

There are a few people who will do custom designs.

Just a general question Ive wondered to myself.
If your surfer hasnt been exposed to a tube site.... why would you direct them to one?

~NH~ 2009-08-06 07:08 PM

Why Isn't There A Tube Section On Here? I Know Alot Of People Aren't Big Fans Of Them But More And More People Are Using Them. I've Had To Look Elsewhere For Research On This Exact Topic Myself.

I Just Grabbed The Automagick Tube Script Only $30
Hopefully Going To Start Setting Things Up Tonight.

If I Had The Extra Coin The Mediaxxx Script Looked Pretty Good But A Little More Pricey With All The Extras. I Think It Was Around $300

Pretty soon there will be no more tube virgins...I might as well be their first, better me than some sleeze...:D

Honestly though, I don't know if it's a good idea. I had kicked around putting it on a seperate domain. I would be interested in what some others think. I don't like tubes, they just seem so popular these days, and I hate to miss out.

Please check our new tube script www.stxtube.com

It is free.

I'm working through a list of tube scripts I found posted at the Zoo. Most of them seem to be scrappers or more for those who want to host the videos and most allow user-uploads (optional on some).

Eliminating most them, I'm down to just a few.

The Nubiles script is one I'll stick somewhere as a test to see how it stacks up against whichever of the commercial scripts I decide to use. Then the finals are down to TEVS and TubeX, but I still do want to take a look at Tube Ace and also that expensive script with a bunny in its name.

And I'll take a look at STXtube now that's it's been mentioned since that one wasn't on my list.

Please do keep the input coming.

Thanks :)

added: ~NH~ wrote that Mediaxxx script was $300, but it's currently marked down to $99 -- however, it's more for allowing user-uploads and community-building based around them uploading content. I'm not interested at all in letting surfers upload videos or photos.

I attempted to install it, but got nothing except a blank page -- not even an error code. The install instructions that come in the download aren't the same as on their site, so I tried it both ways. Also, it only supports three programs. The demo is pretty, but I can't spend all morning thumbing my butt, not that I'm averse to such things.

(And yes, I'm still retired, Robert.)

It is still RC (release candidate). But no problems so far. Can we get in touch with you to find the cause? Thanks.

It's really pretty easy to massage any list into a nubiles list and import it. It takes a bit of monotonous time doing but it also expands the sponsors that you can work with immensely.

Be interesting to see what you come up with. I know I decided to go with the Nubiles script because I really didn't see any features in TEVS or Tube Ace that warranted paying for the script.

The only real feature I wish the nubiles script had was commenting as I think commenting would feed better into the rating aspect and ratings would feed better into the commenting.

But, given my experience with blogs, I actually wonder how much use the commenting feature would get.

Don't lie UW |nahnah|

I know nothing about any of this - but I'd run with the JMB product - their products are first rate - and they're fair, no fees for upgrades (on everything i've ever bought from them)

Bluey 2009-08-07 11:19 PM

I like the feature in Tevs that lets you "Pre Approve Videos". A number of vids in your data base to be displayed on a day/month/year. I think it goes up to the year 2010.

Do the other tube scripts in this thread, have this feature? To pre approve videos in advance to display?

~NH~ 2009-08-07 11:30 PM

Gave The stx tube Script A Shot As The Install Instructions On The Website Make It Sound Like A 5 Year Old Could Do It....To No Avail.

Then Tried The 2nd Set Of Install Instructions Accompanied With The Download....FAIL Again.

Guess I'll Go Back To Playin With The Automagick Script.

Nubiles you can schedule them by hour, day, week.

Cool, by the hour sounds handy, how far in advance will it let you schedule? What year will it let you go to?

Simon 2009-08-08 09:00 AM

So far I'm leaning towards JMB's TubeX because it seems to be the only one of the reasonably priced scripts which can generate animated thumbnails. Still need to look further into this but it's on my 'must have' features list since I think a tube site needs those to keep surfers coming back. Plus I agree with Wazza about JMB's stuff in general. I've used most of Jeremy's scripts over the years and support is always good (and upgrades free). I wish it was out of beta but I can deal with that I think.

I liked TEVS but no animated thumbs, and stats functions need more detail.

I like MechBunny but at $1,500 (to start) it's more than I need, and definitely more for someone who wants to have users uploading content.

I still need to spend some time with Tube Ace to see how it stacks up and if it can make the animated thumbs.

Anyone use Tube Ace?

Or actively using TubeX on a site?

Or have any other input?

:)

FuckingBastard 2009-08-08 02:18 PM

Or a blog with a tube theme. I just start one of it.

Simon 2009-08-09 09:56 AM

Thanks, FB, and I did consider trying a blog with a tube theme. I also considered using Joomla with a tube module addon. But for this project I really want a tube script, something written specifically for use on a tube site.

Okay, while that bunny script has a lot of features I like, it's too expensive for my first site. Maybe it'll be worth moving to down the road, but it has more features than I have any use for on this project.

TEVS is out for no animated thumbs and shallow stats. Aside from that it's a good choice I think.

Tube Ace is out for no animated thumbs and a user interface I just don't like. Second reason is just a personal preference and the first reason is supposed to be taken care of in the next release.

So I'm going to give TubeX a try.

Wish me luck.

Or don't.

:)

LD 2009-08-26 07:43 AM

TubeX is out of beta now, and looking good.

It took me about 10 minutes to throw this up
Code:

I plan to spend some quality time with it in the coming weeks..

Always using STXT from Smart Scripts. For a free script that STXTUBE looks really good. I might try it out |thumb

Liquid Media is a name I keep hearing recently.
Supposedly one of the best, but not free either.

Anyway, probably worth a look: http://www.fluid14.com/
